Well put, not much to add.


For me, cheesy trance consists of huge formulaic riffs that are very predictable, and well, just lame sounding. Armin and Ferry do a log of huge riffs, that can sometimes be quite predictable, but not necessarily cheesey. Well, it's hard to qualify, I agree, pretty much anything new these days from Svenson & Gielen I'd consider to be cheese.

Songs that people call trance which is not. Cheesy ass euro dance with asstastiv vocals..thats what pisses me off. Cheese that is labelled tracen, but truthfully it should be called Cheese. There should be a Cheese genre section in record stores.

I can't believe people don't like cheese trance, i mean come on, they are bloody uplifting, who cares about the vocals some are really nice.

and i cant believe you call Dj sammy - Heaven cheese when Armin Van Buuren Remix of IIO - Rapture is purely the same.

when you start calling tracks cheese, you have truly forgoten why you like music

The mix of the janet jackson son, anyone know the name? its extremly predictable even I could make something better then that, I think the produers just gave up and used a easy tune

anything by Lightforce, Kai Tracid... most of what people call hard trance I would call cheesy. A lot of Ferry Corsten type riffage trance is pretty cheesy...

ok , i agree, life is too short, is a little cheesey, but can you name any other kai tracid tunes that are 'cheese trance'?. Kai's 'softer' tunes, i wouldnt class as cheese trance, but as light, uplifting very pleasantly melodic trance. How can some one call hard trance (PvD, Armin) Uplifting Melodic Progreesive Trance ?

I supose it goes down to what you think the words mean but imo Armin or PvD do not play Uplifting Melodic Progreesive Trance.

IMO if you have to be told what is "cheesy" then its not even worth explaining. This has been my 2 cents.

those who like progressive deep tunes think mainstream trance like armin, ferry etc sounds cheesey, those who like mainstrema think eurotrance/pop/dance whatever is cheese.

those who like eurodance know its cheesey and couldnt give a rats arse about dance snob elitests and some like it all

You're just about right. Everyone seems to call any music more commercially successful than what they listen to, cheese. Fans of melodic trance think of Alice Deejay, etc. Prog heads envision Armin and Ferry's particular brand of trance as being cheese. Then again, most likely techno fans consider progressive trance and house to be cheese. And the people who listen to underground minimalist techno made in some guy's basement think the "mainstream" techno is cheesy. And so forth.

At the end of the day, I think it's different for every person. I mean, obviously were all gonna think the music we like personally is best aren't we, therefore were gonna think other genres that other people listen too are chessy. What one person mite consider a large pile of steaming cheddar, another person mite regard as a total classic. Apart from Scooter, they ARE cheese he he.
