Talk about a nice setup Nitride. Al you need is some treatment and you're good to go.

Also got the Steinberg UR28M on my desk but I am not too happy with it, the DAC has a high noise floor which results is constant white noise on the monitors. Maybe going to return it for something else.

I don't think your placement is too terrible; the speakers have a bit of breathing space from the walls. It's not perfect, but certainly doable.

I'm surprised that the UR28M has noise - I thought the steinberg interfaces were decent? I know Geoff had one for ages. The really old ones back form the early 2000's were fucking horrible but when they came out with the URM range I was a naysayer that got pleasantly surprised. Are you sure it's not a cable/grounding issue/power cables too close to power lines etc?

I know its not a grounding issue based on the type of noise as its not a hum/buzz and more of a digital sounding white noise. I also checked the cables distance from the power cables and moved them around, didn't do much good. I am in an old apartment currently so I am wondering if the old wiring is adding to the white noise?

It turned out not to be the interface, but the actual monitors themselves. When they are powered on even without the interface on or anything connected I can hear it it, it just becomes clearly audible when powering on the UR28M.

I tried it on my brothers M-Audio (lol) monitors which have adjustable gain and was able to drive the UR28M hotter and have no white noise.

Think I am going to return the Focal's and get something else with adjustable gain. One of my friends is really keen on the Eve Adam line which I am looking at now.

Is this better than QuNexus?

Don't have any new gear but I've been gassing for a StudioBLADE. Actually the TANTO would probably suffice my needs since I already have keys.

Picked up the $20 Slate Digital subscription for a month to check it out... some really good plugins from them. Absolutely love the Neve console emulation for my sound as well as the VCA compressor, Virtual Tape Machine, and all of the other Virtual Mix Rack stuff. The workflow is fast, the sound is great, the price is affordable for what I get out of it.

Decided to keep the Focal's as I was able to get used to the noise and completely tune it out. They sound fantastic besides that one little thing.

putting your screens on those stands will hurt your neck. you should be looking down at a 30 degree angle.

Didn't realize that, figured it was the opposite because of my tendency to lean forward if I have them level on the desk.

I took 2/3 of the stands level out and it feels about right now, also moved them a bit closer to me because it was straining my eyes a bit at 1440p.

Thanks for the info.

I haven't tried a QuNexus but my comments up there still stand ^^^^^

I really don't like the X-Key, and mine actually has a manufacturing fault (2 of the keys respond less to velocity than the rest) so I've sent it back.
