I swear the c0r is on an upswing right now. This shit is gold. Not to get too meta but what's with the disparity between people with sense, and outright batshit? I don't think I've ever seen the divide as wide as this.

That "Lookism" forum I linked is sheer madness. I had another browse through it today. Every single post is amongst the most neurotic shit I've ever read. This is the dark power of the Internet. Isolated individuals, who in previous epochs would never dare share the weird workings of their cracked minds with another human, can now join together online and drive each other collectively insane in a mutually-affirmative confluence of absolute insanity.

You've just described internet's worst problem. This is not just Lookism. Go to any extreme/fringe/alternative group in which users try to adhere more to an ideal than their peers.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out one day that foodies and vegetarians joined forces one day and gave rise to a group of people that are so much more vegan than a hardcore vegan that they only eat fruit or something. Luckily, in this case, they wouldn't be able to really harm others.

Same. 5'7" and 5'4/5'5" is my preference.

On a biological level people have a preference for people of a similar height once you account for gender differences (so average height guys prefer average height girls). It seems girls seem to commonly say they'd never go for a guy that is shorter than them though.

I used to work for a major US dating website until about a year or so ago. We would collect all sorts of data on behavior patterns across the site, including communication rates. One such chart was a graph of communication rates between men and women plotted against the difference in height between the man and the woman. The chart clearly showed that the highest comm. rate occurred when the difference between the heights of the man and the woman was 4-8 inches (with the man being taller). It tapered off on either side of that difference, like a bell curve almost.

I know your question was about relationships and not comm. rates on dating websites, but thought this had some relevance here.

Actually, that's quite relevant too. A 15 centimetres gap sounds not unlike the usual height difference you see in couples, thanks!

Most of us don't like the idea that many of our decisions are driven by primitive instincts and emotions. I need to date a woman who is taller than me to prove that I have free will. Come to think of it I am but that's besides the point.
