yes friends is quite probably the most overrated show on television .. and yes i would gladly pay a lot of money for every simpsons episode ever on DVD .. but i agree it's quality has been kinda lacking recently...

personally, i think family guy takes the cake, funniest show ever created. Some of the random stuff they come up with is hilarious......

"hey, your hogging all the fans"
"well, your hogging all the ugly"

bahahbwhawaahah

The Simpsons is a much better show than Seinfeld, but the "Not That There's Anything Wrong With That" episode must be one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

But Duffman gets the prize for funniest character ever:

"Time to give this brown patch a little h200000! Oh yeah!"
"Duffman... can't breath! Oh no!"
"Duffman's pension has been mismanaged! Oooo yeah!"
"Duffman says a lotta things! Oh yeah!"

Family guy was pretty good too, but I hardly ever got the chance to see it. And I agree - Friends isn't funny and never was. :-/

Both classics, let's not turn this into another 'genre' debate.

Favourite moments from both shows:

SIMPSONS: Homer singing in his lounge room
whilst busting some wacky moves;
"You can dance, You can dance,
Everybody look at my pants!"

That pretty much encapsulates the whole vibe of the simpsons: random, amusing and Homer IS an icon!

SEINFELD: Jerry's high-pitched annoyance:
"I don't wanna be a pirate!"
"I don't wanna be a cowboy!"
"I don't wanna be Switzerland!"

Just those little things that appear from episode to episode, too many to name (George being afraid of Elaine, Kramer being harrassed by Puerto Ricans as well as being scared of clowns, and so on)

best quote i can remember in the simpsons is homer and the family in the car trying to catch up to Santa's Little Helper and he says something like
'don't worry, we'll catch him... or we'll run him over trying'
