Love his sound, always have. Regardless of what some may think, I'd rather listen to JOOF's "Trance" than the generic steroid pish most come out with these days.
His latest track is solid I will tell you that and I agree about the big bosh steroids in your face shit that gets played is horrible but I would ideally prefer if he kept the trance name.

+1
His current sound is the best he's ever had. To each their own I guess ....

This is just too far but I'm curious to know what has affected his sound? I haven't paid much attention to anything JOOF in several years as like System J stated, there has been a low key emergence in actual Trance/Progressive stuff being released in the last couples years but kicked in full swing last year. Some of the stuff released nowadays is really genre-bending, propulsive, and having those nice subtle energy shifts instead of big crashing sounds.
It's too bad hearing he got a divorce as this guy has been through a lot in his life but seems to be strong individual. If I were him I'd try moving my label sound or incorporate what some refer to as Bandcamp Trance. He has to know about this stuff releasing, right?

I'm with you man, I've always enjoyed JOOF's music and tastes tbh, some of these posts are pretty sad tbh...
I heard an interview with him kinda recently, though I think was a couple of years ago now, where he spoke about wanting to distance himself from the sound that trance had evolved into, but was torn over his "Global Trance Grooves" brand/show wanting to at least to get to the 200 episode milestone. He's always seemed pretty genuine and down to earth to me, and it's tough in a fickle industry like this.
Also RANN was a prick so good riddance as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. It's coming from a completely different set of artists and labels to any promo list or network he'll be part of. Although it's only a matter of time.
I think you also have to appreciate that J00F has done a lot of retconning of his own musical history. If you look back at what he was actually playing in the '90s it wasn't really the kind of "deep underground trance" he claims to have always represented. I saw an old interview from maybe 1995 where he defined his sound as "hard house and all the club classics"! He certainly did not sound like Sasha or Digweed, so I don't think it necessarily follows that he'll start playing this Bandcamp stuff that has a mid-90s vibe.

Yeah he's changed his style somewhat but at least he's still keeping it underground. Look at the other big names of yesteryear - Ferry, Armin, Oakey, etc. If they had stuck with a respectable sound the scene would be a much better place. Instead they've gone commercial. Solarstone is the one who's done best out of all of them as his labels are consistently releasing great music.
I believe it was our esteemed fallen comrade DJ RANN who actually triggered J00F's ire. Reading back through the thread though, I was telling him to move towards the prog scene and drop the "trance" branding, so perhaps I'm completely responsible for his treachery.
Lmao... the toxic DJ Pluviose threads Posted by stipsy on Nov-20-2021 15:04:
