An email came through work about a scam wherein someone calls in during night shift, claiming to be with the fire department, claiming some bill is overdue, and needs to be paid immediately or else the business will be shut down that same day.

Their 'demand': get the necessary money needed from the cash office, and because this is the middle of the night thus no banks open, must be deposited into a Bitcoin machine at a nearby laundromat.

Yeah...

Just finished the first half of season 6. What a great show; I like it better than Breaking Bad.

Is there really any proof of her explicitly supporting Putin before all this? Because if there isn't, it feels quite unfounded in my opinion. Lots of Russians stay silent about what's going on because of a fear of being recognized by the authorities and having to go through a very elaborately planned beating in custody. Her being quite recognizable.. Yeah I wouldn't really get my panties in a twist just because she hasn't hoped for the death of Putin.

If she's somehow supported Putin before this, or if she has the gall to somehow support Putin during all this, like Lira, then that's a very different thing.

Yeah this is a good point. I mean Oliver stone the director has explicitly said that Ukraine is to blame , and I dont see his movies being taken off of the screens .

1: Oliver Stone hasn't released a film in six years, so...
2: Oliver Stone specifically said Russia was wrong to invade, so...
3: ???

Sure, Stone first said that the USA's many wars of aggression do not justify Putin's aggression in Ukraine, but after he said what everyone expects everyone to say in a situation like this, he said something that makes me think that to him Russia was "wrong to invade" because it was a strategic mistake on Russia's part, not so much because it was wrong towards Ukraine. He then went on to list all the things he thinks Russia blundered, as if to say that were these 9 strategic oversights not there, the invasion would've been cool by him. Maybe even the Russian-speaking Ukrainians in Donetsk and Luhansk, who we all know are so precious to Putin, and whose bodies are now minced all around Donbas, would've been saved.

quote:
Russia was wrong to invade. It has made too many mistakes 1) underestimating Ukrainian resistance, 2) overestimating the militarys ability to achieve its objective, 3) underestimating Europes reaction, especially Germany upping its military contribution to NATO, which theyve resisted for some 20 years; even Switzerland has joined the cause. Russia will be more isolated than ever from the West. 4) underestimating the enhanced power of NATO, which will now put more pressure on Russias borders, 5) probably putting Ukraine into NATO, 6) underestimating the damage to its own economy and certainly creating more internal resistance in Russia, 7) creating a major readjustment of power in its oligarch class, 8 ) putting cluster and vacuum bombs into play, 9) and underestimating the power of social media worldwide.

quote:
But we must wonder, how could Putin have saved the Russian-speaking people of Donetsk and Luhansk?

No doubt his Government couldve done a better job of showing the world the eight years of suffering of those people and their refugees as well as highlighting the Ukrainian buildup of 110,000 soldiers on the Donetsk-Luhansk borders, which was occurring essentially before the Russian buildup. But the West has far stronger public relations than the Russians.

The eight years of "suffering" that was started and ultimately caused by Russia brainwashing Russian-speaking Ukrainians or "ethnic Russians" in Eastern Ukraine, and the "build-up" of Ukrainian troops that happened after 2014. Great stuff as always, Oliver.

Hey, I didn't say he had a good take on the situation, just that he didn't 'explicitly [say] that Ukraine is to blame.'

He thinks the US baited Russia into attacking Ukraine, so it's America's fault, with Russia as second to blame for falling for the American trap.
