personnaly i dont think tiesto deserve #1 spot
he shurely is in the top 5 but after listening to sets of this year i dont think he deserve the great #1 spot
but i agree with malek when he says that he deserves it for all his work since many years

its just frustrating to see that the king of trance muted into a prog dj
i prefer him in 2000 @ trance energy

I think that Tiesto trully did deserve this award. Year after year he brough us amazing sets and compilation releases. He finally got the recognition that he deserves. When I seen him spin at the Kool Haus last year, he simply blew the roof of that place. I have yet to see a DJ, who is so in tune with his audience, and has such a powerful indfluence on the crowd. Tiesto's love for the music really shines through in his performances and he has an awesome attitude behind the decks. Even though his style is changing, that is just the nature of music, nothing ever remains static. The scene is very dynamic and Tiesto is at the forefront as a true visonary!

I couldn't have said it better myself. At both of the shows I've seen him, I have not been disappointed at all. It is, however, surprising that it look him this long to win the #1 spot. Again...mebbe its b/c he isnt a brit? His awesome vision of trance music is the reason that it got me hooked on it the first place.

I was talking about those shity small 30 sec peices, they drive me crazy, damn! U can't hear much or see much unless u make it brighter but those are one of my fav video's just cos it brings all the memories about the best night of my life...

BTW, u can get them @ our DC hub, just tipe tiesto @ koolhaus oct 6 and download them from soebody....

tiesto has become a better dj over the years. he was a record player a few years ago, but he is starting to figure out how to play a proper set. besides the records, you need to program properly and mix properly. listen to sasha & digweed. if you start listening to their sets halfway, you'll be like wtf? listen to it from the beginning and you'll understand. avb is a record player at the moment. play something melodic/hard/filler and repeat. if i walk into an avb set halfway, i haven't missed anything. i'm not saying that is bad, but drop a hands in the air record and the crowd will respond in kind. i have not missed tiesto in toronto except when he played at the guvernment on a thursday. i'm happy that he is #1. hope to see you all on the 14th.

Exactly... you cannot just tune into Tiesto's set half way through. It's a whole experience, a journey that not many DJs can take you on, and it's very unique.

By the way, when it comes to mixing, Tiesto was amazing in that for as long as I've known him. He even got to the finals of the Dj Mixing Championship a couple of years back (don't know who he lost to that year), plus the times I've seen him work the tables, god, that is some skill he has there...

What is number one, anyways? Sure, you could suggest that it has something to do with technical merit as a DJ, or production abilities, or whatever....but many of the DJs, even those way down on the list, are just as capable as Tiesto at doing these things. So what is the differentiating factor? Just people's personal preference.

This list should have been called "most well known" or "most popular" - but to say one DJ is objectively BETTER than all the others in the entire world - that's just ridiculous!

You may be right. But as DJ Smitty pointed out earlier...this is based on votes BY the people. Who cares about technical issues...its about HOW the people feel his set....how close they are to the DJ. I mean, you can be the greatest mixer...but if you play shitty tracks..whats the point? Poll ranking based on people's opinions are the most strongest...cuz after all, a DJ's job is to share his love for music to the rest of the world, which clearly Tiesto took by storm. When voting for this poll, i doubt there was a huge emphasis on considerng the different traits of a DJ. Like it was mentioned before many times in this thread, there is no voyage like with Tiesto when he is at his top.
