-- converting friends to trance
Pages (2): « 1 [2]
It's very differcult to convert my friends to trance because they are into all that R&B crap, it's not an accident that they listen to that shit, they listen to it because everybody else is listening to it, it's the "IN" music, and they got guys with lots of chics dancing behide them, chics half naked, and they also got a band aid on their faces, how can trance beat that?
the only way to convert an R&B listener to trance is if trance become the trendy music and if the radio starts to play it, but if that was to happen it will be the end of trance music.

I've made some love dance music and some hate it. In my 1st year at University I played my music deliberately loud to drown out the indie/rock shit that all my flat mates were playing.
Some of my mates I've met at uni have asked me about specific tunes but nothing more than that - One of the best though was my mate Dave who is a big rock and indie fan asking me If I could record Marco V - Godd for him!!!!!
As for converting people. Many of my mates who are into dance music are Hard house heads - which i despise with a famous passion. I've managed to get some of them into more melodic ways but the others are content with harder bass lines, no melodies and Come On!!! shouts every 5 fucking seconds.
RESPECT TO US - THE TRANCE GENERATION
oh man, i feel your pain! i've got this friend who loves r&b. omg i hate riding in his car. he even bought damn avril lavines(spelling?) cd
i play some good trance and he can't stand the stuff! it drives me crazy he can listen to avril lavine and like it, but rips on trance! arrrrrrrgh!!!
this other friend of mine used to listen to it when i did but he wouldn't get songs on his own or anything, but he said he went to a trance club last month and had a blast so maybe he'll come around
good luck to all converters
if your friends ever tried to convert you to [insert the music style you loathe the most] would you like it? thats how i see it. when im in my car i listen to my shit but i dont try to push it on people. i'd much rather have them start to like it on their own/meet peeps who love it as much as i because its way more fun to have friends who are into it cuz you can relate way more.
i never knew what it was like to have a trance friend until this year. one of my buddies from home happened to come to college at the same place as me. hi roomate happened to be from brighton. the first time i met him i looked ta his cds and just smiled.. he had a shitload of prog and deep shit like saoshi tomiie and lemon 8. we go to denver to clubs every week and its so great to be able to talk about a song with someone who is actually interested.. its even better to go to a club and be able to look over when you hear xpander as the last song in sasha's set and go "FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
thats my story and im stickin to it.

I was able to convert a friend of mine to electronic music, espessially trance! I did it with some Tiesto sets I gave him. Now he isn't an addict, but he just likes to listen to it. He can appreciate good trance.
I have to mention that he open for new things.

. Ever since he started playing it at home (he went out and bought PvD Out there and Back on his own, my uncle started listening to some of it...he told me once that the PvD is good stuff lol.
lol.. hmm.. i converted ONE of my friends to it.. well he's not really converted. he's more of a... "i listen to all genre's of music" kind of guy, and because of that, he essentially knows less about trance than i do lol.. so yeah... can't really talk that much about trance with him.. and since in fresno clubs are nonexistant... (oh yeah, and we're 14 so we probably wouldn't be let in anyways lol)
I try not to push anything on people, but I have tried to expose trance to a few of my Hip Hop listening friends. And like typical, they just write it off thinking it's just gay rave music, or what they like to call "techno" which they label every form of electronic music. So I just let them wallow in their ignorance. I probably would have had a little success if I had hit em off with some d'n'b, oh well.
Ive converted a few people, I usually start with cheese tracks like
Warp Brothers - Blast the Speakers (Advacned 12 mix)
Warp Brothers - We Will Survive
Darude - Sandstorm
For me the track that has never failed to get someone to at least smile is
Voodoo & Serano - Blood in Pumping (pumpin' club mix)
Why the hell would you try to convert your friends?
Dont force electronic music on people, its not for everyone.

I personally fail to see the musical talent involved - but I'm not about to set out on a crusade to change their opinions despite the frustration of not having a fellow fleshy TrancEaddict to talk to.
Unfortunately it would seem radio edits, cheese and 'anything a bit mad' are the only types of trance my mates can bear.
I read a quote in mix mag that encapsulates it best:
"Grab your jazz noodling lover friend by the beard and shove a glow stick up his nose.."
psst! everybody secretly loves trance
I constantly play it in my car. At 3AM in the morning, half-awake, the music either completely draws my passengers in or gives them a headache.
Trance is an acquired taste.
Today, I woke up, heard the 4/4 beat and I was like "huh? That's not me (smart, ain't I?
) and my brother is asleep... who's it then?"
I can't believe what just happened... I converted the cleaning lady who works at home to trance
She was listening to one of Armin's sets that I recorded by accident to her daughter: now THAT's cool
