ADK yes I am currently working on 4 songs , Three of which will be used as demos for a recording contract , the other one is just a small project that I will post here for you all to listen because so many people have asked to hear my music to see if I really know what I am talking about , it not as good as the other ones but it will give you a good ider of what i can produce , I`ve been working on it all week with about 1 week left before I`am finished . Yevat you might want to listen to it to . I will post it in this thread call New Trance Artist .

A filter sweep is used in all most dance music it can add variety without changing you notes . What I mean by Filter Is a Low pass or a High Pass , they mean exactly what they say only let certain pich of music through . for a low pass filter which is most commonly used it would sound like this a cord or melodi is playing than when you slowly use the filter you will hear the pich of the notes slow being cut out makeing it sound lower and lower the more you apply , because you were filtering out the the pich . I hop this helps

i know exactaly what u mean, thanx. :0) ive used that in some other songs, but for some reason used only volume control in the new song. ill use it in the new on though. :0) I should probably also use a Phaser to bring in a new sound...

Posted by Yevat on May-07-2001 19:37:

for ppl that heard the last one (like ADK) here is a sample of the new one, do u like this melody better?

Posted by Yevat on May-07-2001 22:40:

Hi Yevat. I've just given your track a listen. Right now I'd say it has the makings of a good song but at the moment it isn't particularly that good. I have to be honest, the melody gets pretty irratating. You're repeating it over and over again too much with absolutely no variation or progression.

DJ Pete was on to something when he said you should use some pads in there. You definitely need to add some pads. And filter sweeps would be nice. Basically, you need to fill it up because what you've got at the moment is a simple 4x4 beat, hi hats, a one note bass and melody drifting over the top which doesn't particularly maintain the interest no matter how good the melody is.

I'm not saying my tracks are better, in fact I think they're pretty awful, but when I approach a track, my mentality is always to hold a listener's interest. I'll do this by making the bassline progressive by filtering it along the way, distorting it etc or fiddling around with the beat a bit say at the end of every 8 bars so it isn't just 4 kick drums in a row continously. I'm a big fan of BT and I just love the way there's just so much going on his songs that you hear something new every time. Also, Bedrock have a good thing going with the percussion they use. Just take a listen to Heaven Scent. At the end of almost every 1st bar there's just a little kind of tribal sound. It's a little something but adds to it nonetheless.

The silence in the track also needs some work yeah. Maybe instead of simply decreasing the volume of the melody, decrease it and at the same time overlap it with pads or something that will let the listener know that the volume control hasnt just gone crazy on their computer.

Ok, well I hope that helps. On a plus side, your knowledge of the structure of dance tunes seems good. And once you beef up your track, that melody will sound a lot better.

Chris
