The gene for blonde hair is recessive... which means that to get a blonde child both parents need to have the blonde gene. To put it simply somewhere in your family tree there must have been someone blonde (same for the other parent) for you to have n e chance of having a blonde kid.
But as there are soo many combinations of hair colour it's unlikely that the blonde one will be passed on: therefore no longer a possibilty for the kids to have blonde children themselves!
I hope that makes some sense to you.

However, blonde genes are difficult to get rid of since the phenotype of a person that is brunette doesnt describe that they may consist of a recessive blond gene. Look at sickle cell anemia, it has been around for a very long time as a recessive mutation, the blonde gene has too. If you brunette people mate and they both are carrying a blonde recessive gene, there is still 25% for the blonde baby. I still think its likely for blonde genes to be passed on since recessive genes are not expressed phenotypically. long lives the blondies!

wtf?!?

shy AND frigid? thats like two completely different things. call it shy, call it 'reserved' (the word i like best), swedes are quieter than loud ass Americans, but that doesnt make them cold, unloving, evil or something. most swedes are nice, you just have to actually talk to them, you cant sit around and accuse them of being frigid! haha|

Posted by Arbiter on Nov-24-2002 20:46:

Personally I don't like blonde hair, but there is no evidence to suggest it is becoming less common. Recessive traits don't become extinct unless there is some outside factor affecting the reproduction of of organisms that exhibit those traits. Since blondes are no less likely to reproduce than people with darker hair, this is clearly not the case.

^i prefer that too

Actually you can. Most Swedes will enjoy it and pretend there are not swedish themselves. There's nothing more swedish than complaining about swedishness. Look, Im doing it myself right now! haha

Where in Sweden are you going to stay and why?

haha, okay i guess i sort of knew that.

well it looks like i will be heading to Uppsala mid-January, so near stockholm. im studying for that term so i should be around until late June...

hope ill have fun, i know a little swedish and visited last Feb...alt that was Lund and Copenhagen. ses|

Uppsala is fun. I guess you'll be studying at the university. The whole town is full of students and if you have a student ID you'll be able able to get into all of the "nations" there, where the booze is cheap and the girls are pretty. Thats what I heard, I've got a few friends who study there.

As it looks I'm going to Italy myself in January to study.

The same thing happened to my aunt: it's because you've got both recessive and dominant and during puberty, your fenotype (is this the word?) changes from recessive to dominant.

Could someone confirm what I said?

Lol you are joking? Nothing against anybody from Sweeden but they're pretty unreserved if you ask me.

I don't know the exact genetics behind the changing of hair colour, but a changing genotype resulting in a change in phenotype makes the allele change (the physical change resulting from a gene)
The blonde gene must change from homozygous (2 pairs on each chromatid being the same) to heterozygous recessive (the 2 pairs being different), I have no idea how it could happen but it must do.

I hope that makes some sense to you.

How long will it take them to be nearly extinct?

USE AND ABUSE WHILE YOU CAN

I read about that somewhere and I'm scared.
I'm into blonde women.

I bet you went to some tourist resort place like Kos, Aiya Napa or wherever. Sure you'll find alot of loudass swedish semi-drunks there, but hey you're brittish. Out of personal experience I'd say you guys and the germans are the loudest people I've encountered. Check what it's like on Ibiza for example.

And btw, I wasn't offended at all by what you wrote, no worries. Hope I didn't offend anyone back.

I prefer the more finer exotic Brunettes. More class, more presentable type. And very intellegent.

Blondes can be very boring. American raised is the worst kind. The "peroxide addicts" are just $&^% in the head and the REAL blondes are just beyond boring.
Besides male with light features would want to pro-create with an exotic brunette.

that is the most moronic theory i've ever heard. how can you back that up?? by stating your opinion on a few blonde bimbos you've met in your 15 or 16 years of life?

Anyway...i had platinum hair as a kid but as i get older it's gets darker. that is pretty much the case with everyone in my family. i have blonde streaks put in mine though because i think it suits my face/skin tone better. i've had it dark auburn though...i like both really...depends on my mood.
