-- Sasha @ QBH

Ok, i'm scattered as all fvck now, so the following may make no sense at all. Big deal.
Rocked up close to 12, to a surprisingly empty QBH, no matter, i knew it'd fill up quickly and i wasn't wrong. Gav was up on the decks, keeping it deep and proggy, nice lead in set. Met up with ppl, downed more beers and awaited the arrival of 1am.
From then on, Sasha turned up and proceeded to tear the place down. Brilliant set, mixing the likes of Fishcerspooner's Emerge to whatever the fvck else he felt like. His set went from deep, dark and proggy to finishing wonderfully with Enjoy the Wavy Gravy and of course the biggy: Cowpander .
Kasey rocked it on from there with a typical selection of quality choons and Quinny bombed us into the early morn. Noice.
As for Alex, he seemed to be having a pretty good time although overall, he looked like he was just on autopilot. Methinks he was a bit miffed at the sound @ QBH, but then again, isn't everyone?
Well, thats about all from me, be getting the photos back soon, which should help me solve the pressing questions concerning where i was and what i did from about 2am-5am.
Didn't catch any Ta'ers, although considering only about 3 of us were there, odds were stacked against us anyway.
I need more sleep, gotta work at 9, i wish it was saturday again.
That is all.
K, I'm hammered, I'll make this quick.
Gavin Keitel: Deep and dancable. Didn't reach any great heights (or depths?), but I enjoyed what I heard of his set nonetheless. He didn't send Philby to sleep anyway, so he must he must've been doing something right.
Kasey Taylor: I'm not kidding when I say that this guy could become our second big export behind Anthony Pappa. He's defined his own unique style of dark, hard prog-house (can't think of anyone as good as and/or similar to him) and he hasn't yet let me down with a sub-par set. Had me dancing for most of his time up there, and I also love his style: stand there, play one track after the other, hands on hips, looking out at the crowd and thinking "Well? Dance then dickheads!".
Sean Quinn: Only saw 30 odd minutes of his set (would've seen more if my stomach wasn't eating itself by this stage), yet I'm sure it would've been the typical, energetic prog closing set we've gotten used to from this guy...... er, probably.
Sasha: Some Welsh guy a lot of people had come out to see apparently.....
As a mixer, and as someone who builds up a set, the man is flawless. While I spotted a couple of quick X-fades early on (understandable, perhaps, given how sober he looked
) the man knows his way around a set of decks. The mixing was spot on, and his knob twiddling (in the non-Catholic priest sense) wasn't bad either. So why do I not sound enthusiastic?
The main problem, really, was the lack of space. As un-atmospheric as the joint is, Vodaphone would've been better able to hold the amount of people that were there. While it was better once they opened up the upper levels (it was a 10 minute journey from one end of the dancefloor to the other before-hand) the sound in the upper parts is muffled (plus you can hardly see anything), so everyone tried to get onto the dancefloor anyway. So either you were stuck with shit sound quality and no vision on the top levels, or no fucking space downstairs basically. It was fine when Gav was on, but once Sasha came on, the dance-floor filled in the space of about 30 seconds - just as quickly as it cleared once Sasha finished coincidentally...... fickle bastards. :-/
Anyway, ignoring the size of the crowd, the set was still good. It wasn't all dancable (a lot of more ambient stuff early - I want the third track he played ID'd by someone now btw
) but the first couple of hours were still some damn smooth prog-trance stuff - apart from the quick respite in the house room. We owned that dance-floor by the way Phil.
But the last hour was incredible imho. We still struggled to get a spot on the dance-floor, but he dropped some seriously awesome shit in that time: Dinosaur 3D, Wavy Gravy and Cowpander as the conclusion - about all I could trainspot from that set actually (apart from his own stuff).
Seriously though, the dropping of Cowpander at the end (Xpander being easily the best track of all time
) stands as one of the most beautiful moments I've had on the dance floor.
But yeah, while the first couple of hours of his would've sounded good recorded and replayed in my bedroom later on, the last hour of his set was pretty bloody incredible. I bumped into a mate from uni at about - er - 3am(?) who summed up my mood up until about that time - "It's good, but I can't see anyone blown away by it". However, the last hour of Sasha - as well as Kasey Taylor's follow-up set (as well as the insane stuff they were dropping at Galactic Circus when we went for Maccas @ Crown
) - made the night one to remember.
Roll on Welcome 2003.

lol @ renegade
hehe yeah we totally r0x0red the house room lol
haha i want a stubby! give me some vb!! lol
yeah i enjoyed myself, which is good
didnt fall asleep like renegade said hehe
i generally think of prog as something to warm up in a set with, leading into something harder. i dont really know if i could handle 7 hours of it straight again though! i mean i like some of it, but i dunno, i guess i just prefer something else!
im still tired though hehe
i got there a bit before 11:30 i think, had a look around, didn't see any set times or anything so i had no idea who was playing and when they were finishing. eventually saw some later but at that stage i didnt really care hehe. throughout the whole night i only picked about 3 songs, so i was happy that i actually knew some! i wasn't as excited or really 'into it' like i've been for other events but i still enjoyed it, i think i liked it better than bass station the other week. but fark there was so many people! ive only been to qbh twice before and i dont think it was as packed either time. at one stage i was having trouble breathing with the smoke (both the legal and illegal kind hehe) and wasted ****s bumping into me, so i had to go up to the balcony kinda thing to get som fresh air! but the sound wasnt as good there.
sorry to other TAs, i didnt go right to the front once! renegade found me and that was it really. i was wearing a camel shirt and i had my hair in 3 spikes at the front (well until they fell back hehe) so u might have seen me wandering around.
i guess the mixing was alright, couldnt really tell the difference between some of the tracks hehe. and sasha looked fucked i thought when he came out hehe, just something about him. he hadnt bothered combing his hair or anything, just looked gone. spose it was alright overall, but i would think twice before going to something similar again, not really into the music.
hehe i reckon there's better tracks than xpander too

i heard a track sasha played with female vocals, i thought they sounded a lot like jan johnston but it was when we were at the bar up the top at the back and you couldn't hear it clearly. unexpected i thought.

beauty never fades?
But then again, i could have sworn that Kasey played that and not sasha, ah well.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they both played it now that you mention it....
Sasha played it at probably 2.30 and Kasey maybe just before 6.00.... could well be wrong though.

yeah, i remember emerge quite clearly, and beauty never fades from Kasey's set.
apparently Kasey dropped the latest signing to his label, track called flying camels or something, keep an ear out, it rocks nicely.
