Anyone know what kind of law? Criminal? Civil?

Wasn't Ferry Corsten studying to be an Electrical Engineer before DJing and producing full time?

Posted by trance_is_it on Dec-19-2002 02:48:

Congrats to Armin!!!!! and keep up the good work.

ps.... Fire999...agree and respect to what you said.

Armin's graduation. That's wowish.

because

1. His djing is awesome.

2. His productions are very good. (Armin - Communication, Perpetuous Dreamer - sound of goobye, rising star - clear blue moon etc)

3. His remixes are complete perfection. (aria - dido (armin ur mix), airscape - l'esperanza (avb rising star mix), moogwai - viola (avb rmx),, etc)

4. He spends loads of time travelling around the globe.

5. He went to law school of the Dutch university of Leiden, that is the best university in the Nertherlands.

He managed to DJ/Produce/Remix/Tour/Study Law perfectly at the same time. No-one can hardly do one of those 5 things perfectly.

he is a star!

James Holden went to Oxford, i believe. But I have a feeling he didn't graduate....a Holden fan can probably enlighten us with more details.

I think Armin is 25 and James is 23 : good luck to them both. They're an inspiration for all us producers-in-training.

I believe those 2 ages should be switched around. I know Armin is not 25 and I'm not even sure if he's 23 yet. I know I started to listen to him around when he was only 18.

Congrats to AvB........I don't know how he manage to do everything he's doing ATM.

I'm gonna hired him as my lawyer so he can do a set for me after we talked about our law "business".........that would probalby be cheaper than hiring him as a DJ

Posted by Rakoon on Dec-19-2002 04:51:

Hehe, Armin's a lawyer.. nice. I believe Ralphie B is a part-time computer technician or something of the sort.

Posted by undertensecond on Dec-19-2002 05:42:

Wonderful job,Armin!

I go to Yale and I sure think it's pretty impressive, considering that he's had a full-fledge dj career throughout all these years and still managed to keep up with his studies. I could definitely not be producing and touring the world while studying law at the same time, even if that school wasn't great. And btw, I think the European system works in a different way, doesn't it? I've heard that you just go straight into law school after high school or something? Don't take my word for it.

And yeah, congrats to Armin!!!!

If you research on some University exchange programs, there have been occurences where undergrads from those fancy school can't even score an A in their neighbouring country. What does this tell you? You were bred and raised by aristocratical dictators who made the system that way, all the ivy-league blahs blahs....Times have changed, there are other emerging schools which will breed new talents. In this society, personal achievement stands out more than what you've studied over the years. It's how you make use of what you learned that propels you to a higher level. Bah....too much crap and stuff.....i could go on forever, but the propaganda surrounding these schools are the best are just too passe in today's context. Professions that yielded you most money say 20 years back have diminished significantly. It's like the gold rush for the Americans, if this job provides better prospects, why should I choose otherwise. There you go, within the last few years, which rich people do we see on Forbes? CEOs or doctors or lawyers....I am not saying they do not make that much....sure they'll be able to secure a nuclear family. Fame and fortune goes well hand in and hand, it's how you attain them that is the difficult part.

Can you say post-rejection angst? Hey, I know from first-hand experience that a lot of people in the Ivy League are not the smartest people in the world, but don't attack my school just because it's rated #1 or #2, it earned that spot by being on top of Americas intellectual and academic elite for the last 300 years. Yes, its even older than the Union. MOST people have sweated blood and tears to get into such schools; its not that easy to get almost perfect SATs and GPAs.
Over-rated you say? Im not that proud about having the most people from the Forbes 500 or even the last three U.S. presidents, but Im damn proud about all of the achievements in the arts and sciences that were made by Yale academics. This is not about money my dear. Aristocratical dictators? First of all, theres no such word as aristocratical, its supposed to be aristocratic. Sure, theres an obvious old money legacy. I mean, these schools are older than shit. But times have changed; do you have any idea how liberal these schools are in the present day?
The Ivy League universities were the first schools in the U.S. to admit minorities and nowadays the school admits 40% minorities and male and females on an equal 50-50 basis. Trust me, most elite schools in the world cant say that yet about their diversity.

I dont understand where your anger comes from, but it just bothers me that you attack my school as if we were all fuck ups because we were lucky enough to get accepted. Its not my fault that other people were less fortunate. Oh, and Im going abroad to Amsterdam next semester. Ill let you know if I get anything less than an A in my grad school classes. If I get less than an A, Yale wont give me credit for them. Its not as easy as you think, Einstein. Peace.

Didn't think that Armin could be awesome to me, but he has proved me wrong with this one this makes me want to get a law degree even more now! Congrats AVB!

To Dj Pio and Fire999

I think both of you guys make some good points, how ever I think you (Dj Pio) miss the point that Fire999 was trying to make, which was that he was replying to someone who had made a post previously saying that Armin got a law degree in Holland but that worth almost nothing comparing to Harvard, Yale or Oxford, he was just trying to say that just because Armin didn't graduate from these so call Elite schools doesn't mean that his Law degree is worth nothing or worth less than a degree from these Elite schools, and he said in some cases people from other schools did better than people from Harvard, Yale or Oxford, the fact that these schools have a good reputation does mean that they are the best and that no other schools can ever challenge them, I think it would be silly to think that something can be the best forever and anything else is unworthy.
Dj Pio I agree with you that a lot of these elite schools are very liberal and that 3 Pesidents have graduate from them, no one can argue with you on how great and how prestigious Harvard, Yale and Oxford are but I don't think Fire999 was dissing these schools at all.

Cheers and good luck to both of you.

Bigups to Armin

Posted by TranceGiant on Dec-19-2002 11:29:

@ DJ Pio, yep you're right. In Europe you can start directly after High school, specializing yourself on law, law and..law. No college system whatsoever. Quite depressing as I realize now

hows the foreign students rate at Yale?

Why do I miss the point? I said in the post before that it was really impressive that Armin got a law degree, regardless of the school in which he did it.

Also, of course he dissed the schools. He called them "aristocratical" and practically hated on all the students that attend these institutions. Heh, no big deal

TranceGiant: Foreign students at my school are great because they bring a great deal of value to the environment by sharing their own cultural perspectives and experiences. And they're ususally very smart too. Peace.

seems plausible, wasnt my question though. I asked how the CHANCES for a foreign student to get admission are *hint hint*

oh! lol. i guess it's a hard as for everyone else. you would have to be in the top of your class and have great SATs or whatever the equivalent is. plus a bunch of impressive extracurricular activities...

that man is everywhere. . . and wherever he goes, the girls follow.

Posted by Fire999 on Dec-22-2002 09:30:

Hey DJ PiO, if you must insist on noting that I've clearly dissed the schools you've attented or attending now, I offer my apologies on that statement.

I can see how proud and devoted of being in an ivy-league school means to you or anyone for that matter. My case in point reverts back to why should a person's source of education got to be associated with the historical age of an institution, or for their reputations. There are a lot of "shameful" incidents in Ive-League institutions which I would rather not probe into. There is no point in bickering over where you get your education from. It's how you put what you learned to good use.

I can forsee that a typical American family high with their hopes and wants for their children to attend ivy-league colleges. I, myself have considered that ages ago. The society has painted that picture of attaining more if one were to enter an Ivy-League Institution....and here we are, all struggling to get in there.....and with consideration to the number of drop-outs in the first year....all these are plain numbers.

As for the aristocrats, it's a fact that the rich are getting richer and the poor getting poorer. Since you speak on behalf of these Ivy-League Colleges carrying out Samaritian efforts to allow minorities into their school, how about those times when they decide to feel that your economic well-being is not up to their standards and that you should feel free to take a hike or a one-year leave.

For what I see, you must be from an above-average to do family, but will you be there to help out the poor and needy? When was the last time you did a good deed? Is it necessary to bring so many issues into this issue?

DJ PiO, we could argue on this as there are too many dimensions, points of view. I might not be as knowledgeble on some topics, but given the chance, I try to absorb as much as possible. Meanwhile, check out your local colleges for school fees prices. Are the fees fair for the common people? Are the banks eating off interests on these students with loans? I hate to think so, but i tend to believe I observe...

Nuff said....There are too many issues, too little time....as always....we are losing moments as we breath.......*Simile*

Judge Armin lol!!!
Judge Jules started out doing a law degree (hence the name) but fucked it off.
I suppose Armin will have to start wearing glasses and distinctly gay looking clothing now then.

I am Jules fan really
