NICE!
I am heading to Stereo to see Sander K on the 24th. I guess he has been asking to come back and may even make it a residency?
Sander played here twice in 2002. Personally I like the koolhaus when they limit the tickets. I saw digweed with about 1500 other ppl, much room to dance. Personally I'd take the guv/koolhaus over viva any day but then again, I'm biased
The sound system in guv is very good but you guys are right, its not set up properly. Its like they bought it but don't know what to do with it. I thought with such a system you also get a technician to set it up but i guess not.
Viva vs Guv sound system
My name is Bob Vonesh, and I work with Vertex Sound and Lighting, in Markham, Ontario. Our company was responsible for the sound and lighting installation done at Viva, and I was pleased to hear that many of you seem to prefer the result we were able to acheive in that club. The fact that the two rooms are so different in size has much to do with the differences in sound that many of you perceive. The equipment used in each system is quite different as well, but in both cases, the quality of the gear used is very high. The system installed at Viva is comprised of flown EAW KF-850's for the mid/hi portion of the system, and the deep bass is produced by a large quantity of the well known Vega SL-36PE "Earthquake" subwoofers. The fact that the subs are driven by MULTIPLE Crest 10,001 amplifiers is the primary reason that the bass you hear is so fat and deep. There is no substitute for large numbers of watts when you are going after tons of deep bass! The power amps throughout the system are somewhat oversized, and this helps to contribute to the lack of distortion many posters commented on. Extensive use of digital signal processing gear is also a factor that contributes to the unusually clean audio in this space. We worked hard to try and design a system for Viva that would produce not only the volume the owners wanted, but that would operate at those elevated volume levels without sounding harsh or distorted. The art of properly tuning a large scale sound system is partly science, but also partly the magic of the human ear, and sound companies (including ourselves) are especially interested in this human aspect. Anyone with money can purchase a large pile of equipment, but it takes skill to turn that equipment into a system that works well in the space it is installed in. In the end, it is this ability that separates the posers from the real companies out there. I'm happy to talk equipment issues anytime, if you care to email me at [email protected]. Check us out at www.vertexsound.com Cheers!

does like everyone in Toronto come to this site?
There you have it folks! If you have any questions regarding the sound system installed at Viva, just ask Vertexsound.

"Won't there be niggaz and guns and drugs n' shit?"
Typical HIC thing to say!

When I tell people about trance and the real 'scene' they automatically assume: underground = drugs
What I try to tell them is underground = damn good music

When mention trance to my none party friends ... the first thing they say is ... SANDSTORM !!!
I've turned a few friends over @ my work into TA's (well almost). The only person I don't think I'll ever ever change is my gino brother, it's hopeless.
I still try though for some reason...

hey vertexsound .. i'm just curious, but is Phazon a 'standard' kinda like THX, whereby if ur configuration is in such a way , then it'z (Phazon) or is Phazon specifically a line of equipment (ie. something physical) .. ?
just wondering cuz i wonder if it's possible for the system at Viva to be say Phazon equivalent ..
forgive me if i'm not making much sense outta all this, but i'm not a sound system expert or anything ..

| Originally posted by Mosaic yeah... and it was VIVA too. Just a side track: Viva does a pretty good job of making the club a safe place. Even if there was some head turning on the bouncer's parts when it came to drug use inside the club, it was still pretty sweet. And you guys say you are going to work on that. Quick question for Viva: If these guys got to the front of the line, would you let them in? |

okay so basically speaking then Phazon is a sound configuration company.. ? almost like an interior designer for ur home, except the 'design' the sound set up of the venue? kz i think i get the idea then ..
so in a way Phazon, Meyers Sound, and Vertexsound would be competitors in a sense in that they each pretty much do the same thing, that is set up the sound system in the venue/live events .. ?
^^^Exactly.
