good one

Posted by OLi_A on Jan-06-2003 14:30:

i meant theyre bowl attack
well england arent really shit its just for some reason australia has pulled ahead like they did in rugby
but the thing is the other teams will catch up cause there is a big never ending cycle which evens out in the end

Posted by stipsy on Jan-06-2003 15:48:

yeah boro arent doing too bad this season!!

geremi and nemeth have been great so far this season!

and ehiogu and southgate have been rocks in centre of defence..shame about ehiogu being injured...

being a Toffee i hope we can stay in the top 6 but i can see us sliding towards mid table...we need a spark in centre of midfield..a creative playmaker li tie ( t-shirt) aint good enough to play..

at least we got rooney true champ the kid is good to snatch mcbride and said on loans but i hope we can get col healy from celtic ....if we dont were going to have to wait for rodrigo to come back from injury and slot into the midfeild to give us some flair!

Posted by Ian on Jan-06-2003 15:49:

I said it before and i'll say it again, in 2 years it should be even, if we pick this team

Trescothick
Vaughan
Bell
Hussain
Foster
Collingwood
Flintoff
Jones
Giles
Anderson
Harmison

Caddick may have had wickets but he was expensive and blows hot & cold, mainly cold, Flintoff will be fit, giles without broken finger, Anderson is looking good already, Jones when he's fit again, Foster has to replace stewie behind the stumps, 42 will be too old, Hussain as capt, maybe even Tres, Collingwood can bat but also bowl if needed and Ian Bell is our best young batsman

Posted by G K Murray on Jan-07-2003 01:08:

I think in the near future TRESCOTHICK will captain the England side, and we will start selecting more youngsters as we'eve learnt from our mistakes from the last 5 or so years that you can't fill a team with old twats! I also don't see GILES is the answer in our spin department, neither is DAWSON. Giles is getting on and Dawson certainly doesn't look test class. There is other young spinners werth a looking at.

The Barmy Army are the best supporters in the world of cricket by 950 miles!! There is no other test nation that takes any where near as much support to watch an away test match than England does, and fuckin excellent support they were.

Regarding FOOTABLL! There is no a fucking chance you Aussies will beat us!! (Quote me on this!!!) James Beattie!! Look out for the name you Aussies. This man is top class! Id Sven doesn't pick him someone needs to have words in his ears.

Posted by Ian on Jan-07-2003 01:14:

James Beattie was Alan Shearers Bootboy when Al was @ Blackburn, basically he is taller than shearer, and has the yard of pace that alan once had, and that he lacks now to make him a candidate for us, but he is shit hot in the scoring charts, and could be a great foil for owen, rooney or whoever gets picked, forget heskey, this man knows where the net is

Posted by Philby on Jan-07-2003 01:33:

yay!
go england!
it was good to see them coming back in the last 2 tests! i was hoping vaughn would do well and kinda hoping england would win! like steve waugh said, they just capitalised more on the opportunities. i agree with some of the comments about no young players, this side won't last forever. but then again, they keep winning so there isn't a great argument for change! i guess this means that a whole generation nearly misses out on test selection as the next best players at the same time aren't given a go because they aren't needed. hopefully theres some good talent waiting in the wings...
go poms!

hmm
listening to the abc, and channel 9 i think, they weren't too sure on hussain being captain, they didn't think he made the right decisions and field placings some of the time.

haha how good is the barmy army??? i was thinking of starting a thread in the uk forum i hope england come back soon just for them! its great hearing all the chanting and stuff, listening to the last day at melbourne on the radio at work, it was as if you were watching a premier league game or something! i reckon the atmosphere around them would have been great!

hehe
but still...

actually, i sat near them once during the last Ashes test at the SCG (would've been 1999/2000 season I think). They are fucking annoying to sit near for an entire day's play! Sure, their chants, songs and banter are funny for the first hour, mildly amusing the second hour, but by the time the lunch break rolls around you're sick of listening to it!

I ended up moving so that I could concentrate on the cricket, rather than drunken english hooligans getting sunburnt.

Just my $0.02

For enthusiasm they're good, but they do need a vast array of songs to use, and they don't use suntan lotion, like most british guys, and then complain when they go pink, whereas I use it, go nicely brown & girls look at my tan, until they see the rest of me

Trescothick test captain ??? ahahahahahahahaha thats a load of crap Ian Chapell on our local channel 9 was bagging the hell out of him saying he has no technique what so ever ! I think the poms should play Nick Knight in the test team if they wanna bolster their batting line up. BTW we are Arsenal, the machine guns in Europe ! we set the standard in the premier league so come and catch us if you can !

What? So you don't think we've tried playing Nick Knight in our test side or summin. He has far worse a technique than Trescothick does. Knight will always struggle in the longer matches due to his Trigger movement at the crease, in whic he steps wawy, therefore no been able to get in line often enough for good length ball in and around off stump. Alos, Trescothick indeed had a poor Ashes series, but the bloke still avareges over 40 and was outstanding in last winter in the sub-continent.

Regarding the Barmy Army! We English like to go to a test match and get fuckin RAT ARSED, Sing all day and shout for anything slightly worth shouting for, get sun burnt the go back to where they're staying stinking off booze, then get ready for a night on the lash!
