90% of the time this happens from people clicking "yes" when Internet Explorer pops up asking "Do you want to install {insert name of bullshit ActiveX control here}?" Examples: Precision Time/Date Manager, Comet Cursor, etc. It's true that that there have been exploits enabling sites to install shit (literally) without your permission, but most of the time Micro$oft manages to release a security update before it gets exploited. ya but who the hell is gonna update their browser every 2 months??

i for one am very lazy..so lazy that i have a pop up stopper to save me the trouble from actually closing one whene it opens up

Pop-up stoppers suck, I use the Proxomitron. (I forget the web site, but search for it, I almost NEVER get a single pop-up or ad banner with this thing, it lets you filter out st00pid background midis and shit too).

But still, use Windows' auto-update, it was made for lazy people. Or use Opera.

Incidentally, considering Microsoft's track record with Windows and IE, you should be updating every week, not every 2 months.
