I was born with a genetic disorder known as white man's legs. Basically, from my hips down isn't connected to the rhythm centers in my brain. I can hear the music, but can't make anything below my waist respond. sad really.

Now we all bitch, bitch, bitch at n00bs over and over again for never taking the 2 seconds it takes to search, so I would like to take the time to applaud this young member's use of the search tool to minimize the total number of inane threads on TA by resurrecting and posting in a 10 month old thread.

If I didn't say so already, I like to do steps with liquid mixed in sometimes ...

I am not good at raving but I try, so I call my style "improvisation." I do it better when I'm drunk If I tried to do the dance of the little TA icon, I'd probably slip a disc.

Monkey Dancer 2

*shrug*... I'm not sure how to classify how I "dance". I move... with the music... and the rhythym...

However, I am told more often than not that I'm good at it...

Actually... heh... This one time that my ex and I were on a break, a well known local DJ was having a show, and we decided to go.... On our way there, he told me that my rival had asked him to go and he had said no, frankly, because he didn't want to be around her dancing.. and he wanted to go with me b/c I usually get some attention with my skills...

made me feel pretty damn cocky for the rest of the night!

The Pelvic Thrust.

Posted by JeZzA on Oct-25-2003 13:04:

to be honest, i think anyone can dance.

im 19 and a half now, and i only started dancing about 9-10 months ago. i was one of those kids who would stay home from the school dances because they were afraid to go cos they couldnt dance.

i went to my first rave, pumped up and excited about finally getting to go somewhere with good music and other ppl that love the music as much as me.

and then when i got there the whole thing from school reoccurred and i was like "i dont wanna dance, ppl are gonna think i look stupid" etc etc. so i sat down and watched someone danced that i thought looked good. gay, straight, bisexual, who knows. i watched them and i went off somewhere away from him and tried to do his dance. first time ever dancing comfortably in front of other ppl and i even had someone come up to me and tell me i was cutting some sick moves.

4 months later i got asked to join a dance troupe, more than half of the people in it have some kind of dancing background, and now im being paid to dance on stage at raves alongside the djs and pump up the crowd.

people learn best in one of three different ways, visually, audibly and kinesthetically.

all you have to work out is which you are. if you learn best visually, watch someone and visualise yourself doing their moves. if you learn best audibly then just connect with the music. kinesthically, you just try follow the person while they are dancing, from across the room or behind them.

i know it sounds kinda stupid to copy someones moves, but you have to start somewhere. just copy their basic step and build onto it your own stuff once you are comfortable with a basic step that you can repeat.

just get yourself comfortable and mildly confident and nothing will stop you.

edit: anyone in Brisbane going to Advent*jah on November 29? we are dancing in the main room sometime during the night. look for a short dude in a red hat and come say hi afterwards
