i think that another big think that is out right now is "Trance Breaks" stuff like Astrobreakz - I Close My Eyes....Flipped - Dream i could name a shit load more because 2 of my fellow Funky Munky DJ's are break DJ and i enjoy listening to Jay and Jason spinn that Trancy shit and i would hope that it will catch on but as for Trance goes i want it to go back with more old school shit like the uplifting stuff from like 2000 and what not. I meen i like the new stuff to like Plastic Boy (aka Push) or Gouryella i like all that but its just not the same when i go to a rave i want the feeling of being free and with all this 120 bpm down time shit floating around its hard to feel good with a nice beat and phat synths you know but thats just what i think

Personally I like how different genres are morphing together to create different types of music. I kind of got burned out on uplifting to the point where most of those types of songs that are coming out nowadays really don't do much for me anymore (even though I've heard a few that have a hint of 1999 flavor to them which is good). I still love uplifting but grew to listen to prog more often because it was a nice change of pace. I miss that feeling I first had when I started listening to trance to escape the hell of Top 40 crap and the changes that are occuring now are helping to bring that feeling back after hearing the same monotonous style over and over again. Granted I can accept that ideas for these genres aren't unlimited but why not recycle them in a new way? The incorporation of breakbeats to different generes not used to having them spices things up and I personally see that as the new trend. Sure I miss the old days of the Oakenfold Essential World Tour clasics but I still think the future looks pretty damn interesting! Just my two cents...

first of all: mindphaser, there is a dutch/holland section too, you should check it out

2 the thread... dunno for the rest of the world, but over here (in holland) there seems to be a wave... soft.. hard (hardcore) soft (trance) hard (hardstyle, do people on this forum actually know what this exactly is?) so I hope it will get softer, more chilling again within the next years... since we need something different at that time I expect an undergroundscene will come mainstream orso.. dunno, just got that feeling.. maybe goatrance or something.

FACTS:
- recently the amount of HUGE trance events in Holland have decreased.. the ones that are left usually have crappy line ups or are rare...
- number of hardstyle party's have INcreased ENORMOUS, but basicly nothing new is coming (a group of djs, a number of records which are circuling, nothing really new).. logically you would say it dies within a couple of years...
- people who like more relaxing parties with trancelike music are getting annoyed by all the hard stuff, no parties for them..

therefore the wave will go on I think , leaving people behind in every style while continueing (some stay in trance, some in hardcore, others in progressive etc.)

my 2 cents, can't wait till it gets softer again (hard music ==>> makes me bounce ==>> make my feet HURT )

i feel that musci will eventually go softer again, but it will not be exactly like it was in the 'trance glory days'... because back in 98 or 99, they had a different energy, once that flow is gone and a new style or flow is established, you cant recreate the same vibe that was being given off a few years ago. The technology gets better all the time and new instruments r invented, which create different sounds.

as i said earlier, my era is old house music and acid house from 88 time... now that era is gone, there is no chance that anyone could make a track with the same vibe and feeling that tracks from 88 and 89 gave off. ok they might come close, but tracks made in that time, were fresh at the time and they were all new ideas.... but now i think it would be near impossible to make a new track in the same style as a past genre and make it sound authentic

to me progressive is soft, and there are lots of lounge/chillout cd's out there.
last weeks im more interested in the groovy/funky etc stuff wich is a bit less known to the big crowd
i think most of those songs are more originalprobably cause that genre (at least as far as i know it) isn't that big as trance is...

i personally love the chillout rooms on big party's, like on last qontact where they had "tree beds"

it all depends on what you look for in music...... i mean im not a prog fan in the slightest. but i know that prog can be one of the deepest styles there is. steve lawler plays tribal and proggy type stuff (not getting into too much of a genre war)..... and id say he plays pretty hard in the sense that its very deep and dark.... sooner or later with every style that emerges, there is a harder alternative ....... you look at every sort of music there is, and there pretty much a harder alternative for them all.... i dont think its a matter of how music as a whole is heading..... cos sooner or later a harder or softer version will come out, and it WILL become a style...... the only thing that counts to some ppl is the number of ppl that listen to the music, that establishes it as a well known style i.e trance.... its kinda hard for me to put into words.. but because trance is a more successful style to hardstyle... it dosnt mean that trance is the new style, or the way forward or the new trend, as soon as a new sound is established be it hard or soft or whatever, it becomes a trend and therefore makes it the music of today.. or possibly tomorrow!
