I emailed one of the promoters and they said that it's the same dress code as The Guv..."cool style". So it's good.

Posted by LKD on Feb-15-2003 00:03:

anyone coming tonight to Lotus, keep and eye out for the Stellar Alliance and associates...namely; Me, Endlesswave, Time2Burn, Infinity_high, DJ MG

Posted by tatgirl on Feb-15-2003 01:50:

IMPORTANT!!!!!

A buddy called Lotus, and they told him that jeans (hats and runners) are absolutely not allowed tonite, and they WILL turn people away.

Posted by Crazy Serb on Feb-15-2003 05:00:

Well, since I decided to stay home tonight (got classes early in the morning, and don't feel like pulling off missions tonite), you guys let me know what's the place like/what was the dress code/what was Seaman like...

I wasn't gonna go out tonight 'cos of midterms but one of my buddies told me @ the last minute he knows the bouncer so decided to go down right around 11:30 . Everything went smoothly, nice looking crowd, $25 saved only to find out at the door that Seaman is not playing tonight because of some bomb threat... Tough luck for the diehards

You have to be fucking kidding me. That is fucking awful.

You can't blame the club for cancelling it either. I would. All this war talk is driving everyone nuts. Better not be any threats made to Guv.

Posted by tatgirl on Feb-15-2003 09:30:

Yup- it didn't happen. But I thought they were only charging $10 cuz he wasn't there? Hijacked a few of the TA's to go to a loft party, dropped them off & went to grab the last friend to bring, and when I got back, the only one left was Aslan. The music wasn't so great for a while (reggae), but As was in heaven. Finally at 1:30, this girl Lauren got up on the decks and dropped a wickedly groovy deep house set. Mmmmmmmmm......

I just got a call from sober24-7 who was just leaving Lotus at 4:15am. They had an ok time, and were thinking of heading to the loft party themselves.

Posted by Time2Burn on Feb-15-2003 09:43:

War? Bomb Threat? Fuck THAT!!!

A party is supposed to help us forget about the stresses of the world. Damn them for affecting my actual party!

Here's how my night went:

Drank up a storm at my house with LKD his sis and Infinity High. Went to Lotus Only to find out that Seaman was a no show. FUCK! Saw the regular TA posse out in the fridgid cold. Nat of course had a back up plan so we headed out to the loft party. Cool crowd and they were playing some really cool underground dancehall reggae riddims! Yes Nat I was in heaven. Until that room closed and the booze started to kick in! After a few ralphs I had to visit the picotto mobile for a needed snooze. Finally woke up after freezing my nut sack off outside. Came back inside to a groovy jazzy house set. Finally had time to enjoy and relax after the bout with the drunkeness. Was still tired though and was glad to leave.

SO there ya go. Exciting stuff. 2 weekends with no show DJs and disappointing nights. Hopefully Scott Bond will put that party smile back on my face [if i can afford it].

I heard that the only reason why Seaman did not show he has a Visa problem.

Posted by LKD on Feb-15-2003 16:28:

well all that can be said is there WAS some logistics problem. if it was a bomb threat, cant help it

if its anything else, the promoters shouldve brought him in a day before just in case

Posted by jon jon on Feb-15-2003 16:32:

some random stories floating around.

One in particular that I like is that the bomb threat was THE bomb threat made to Gatwick airport and thus delays have been going on for over 2 days. That is the most likely explanation.

Posted by DigiNut on Feb-15-2003 16:33:

Well... no offense to anyone... but I've glanced at this thread several times, and it seems to me that these guys (Lotus) seem to have major organizational problems, just by virtue of all the mixed messages going around about the dress code.

I suppose the place is trying to attract a more "upscale" crowd, but still, sounds like a hell of a way to lose business, turning so much potential into so much disappointment. I wasn't even there with you guys to get shafted, but I'd be very wary of dealing with the place after hearing all this.

Posted by jon jon on Feb-15-2003 16:36:

^ What?

What did you want them to do if he was stranded in England?

And I thought they just wanted a dress code in effect, what is so disorganizational about that!?!

Tell people? In advance? That he might not be able to make it? Instead of telling people at the door that it was cancelled?

Nothing at all, but read through this thread and you'll see 4 or 5 conflicting opinions from different people (promoters, people who work there, etc.) about just exactly what the dress code WAS.

I'm not saying that it's not a good place, I don't know anything about it, just that I'm rather unimpressed by what I've read here.

Posted by LKD on Feb-15-2003 17:54:

ok this is the whole thing about the event last night...i derived it from my observations

first off..it was the first Du Maurier club event ever in TO (at least) and was done in collaboration with 2-3 promotion agencies

i dont want to mention the agency names cos it was not their fault and i dont think they need a bad rep cos of that

now i also did find alot of conflicting ideas about even the simple stuff like the dresscode..yes..lack of communication between the agencies

Posted by infinity HiGH on Feb-15-2003 19:25:

lack of communication is a sureway to failure.

oh well, since I didn't see Seaman last night, it's Danny Howells tonight!!

*heads over to the Howells roll call*

BASTARD...i wish i didnt have mid terms on monday and tuesday

Well....I decided to stay in line, instead of going to the loft party, and after 45 mins, we were in. BUT, 2 mins after guestlist cutoff, means we had to pay $10 each.

After a little complaining, we were givin some free passes for next week(promptly thrown on the floor).
Inside was like electric circus, the most (and I really mean it) beautiful women I have ever seen. I mean these girls were dresses in almost nothing, but unfortunatly accompanied by too many ginos.

The music as okay, as Mark Oliver played progessive which had some deep trance at the end. The sound cut out about 4 times during the night (for 7 mins at one point). I think most people who were there were more into seeing and being seen, rather than the vibe we are normally used to.

Lotus closed at 4 and there was one major complaint from me. We had to put our coats on the 3rd floor when we came in, but since they close the top floor early, the coats were moved to the 2nd floor, and then later, the 1st floor. One guy who was with us lost his cell phone (probably because it fell out of his coat when they were being moved). This shit is just not acceptable.

I don't think I would ever go back here because they just don't have their shit orgainized. Good DJ or not, I don't think Lotus is the kind of club that caters to my needs. (Visual yes, but muscially, no)

I do think it would have been good if the rest of you guys had stayed, but a decent time was still had. See everyone at Bond!

Peace,
Rich
