Its not really an addiction or a need, its more of a.. salvation.
One can finally understand what the big meaning is, to collect
vinyls and listen to the music on the right format.

No, seriously, its an addiction but a nice one.
Id rather spend my money on vinyls then on beer.

I just got my tables and I've been collecting vinyl for about a month now.. So far every week I'm pulling in about 10-15 vinyls. I'm at the local shop about twice a week and every day I'm thinking "Oh oI could use this this and this.. and I wanna go see what else they have." it just never ends. I just started.. but this addiction is worse then crack.

yo..which shop would that be? I am from Queens also and cannot find a record shop with a decent selection of trance. Buy all my stuff online from the UK.

stop buying records and save up for some tables! records will always be repressed sooner or later.

if you want to save cash for good, buy Final scratch. Still the vinyl feel, with unlimited amount of new tracks.

Vinyls are the drug of DJs. It's like crack for addicts. Only cheaper.
I'll admit it. I started having money spending problems after I started to by vinyl. I'm officialy addicted.

Zain: I don't think you have gotten the point with vinyl.
Sure, its the feel of the plastic but its soo much more then that!

Its the feel of joy and adrenaline when you receive it in the mail
or pick it up at the store, the overwhelming feeling of the urge
to play the record when you feel that special vinyl flavour.
The happiness when you get to cue it up before mixing it in with
another track, the totally awesome feeling to look down at your decks
and see for instance see the vinyl say "Banzai - DJ PROMO", "PERFECTO" (in that nice blue color),
"DATA" or whatever label it might be, just to look down and see the
beauty that has reached your home.

Part of listening to vinyls is buying them, not downloading
shitty mp3s that is compressed and listening to them via
final scratch. Thats the cheapo's way of doing it and he is missing
out on so much. Its like saying no to a date with the finest, best
looking girl in the city so you can date your sister instead.

Finally, Zain, look again. You might have it all figured out, but
Im sorry to say, you haven't. There isnt anything that says that
someone who plays and collects vinyl must buy 20-30 records a month,
you can buy just one every year if you want. But its like sex, the
first time its prolly a worthless track that you just buyed because
it was beeing re-pressed but you are still hooked, and you start
experimenting with different shops, labels and ways of playing.

Plus Vinyl release sounds better than Final scratch, because your still using mp3's.

Funny that. i quit nicotine for my decks, but lil did i realise i'd be hit with a more costly addiction.

Vinyl addiction is worse than those days, when collecting basketball cards use to be the in thing. I remember I use to spend all my pocket money ($10 a week) on cards, when I was 12.
Now with vinyl, its like averaging $100 (Aus $) a week. You can never be satisfied with what you got, always wanting more.

Posted by DJ M.G on Mar-06-2003 10:24:

Im ADDICTED to buying Vinyl. I have 400, and had my decks for 2 years.
I cant help it! i just cant stop! reading reviews in DJ Mag just dosnt help. When i leave store i have to go back to it, coz ive think missed somthing.
Wouldnt it gr8 to be on a mailing list!!

Posted by chesco on Mar-06-2003 12:00:

I just spent about 150 pounds on vinyl in 3 days and my brother has spent about 120 in one sitting from juno.

I got a student loan in january and have spent about 800 pounds worth on vinyl. every time I walk past hmv I go in to have "a look" and end up coming out with two or three records.

The funny thing is when i get them home, a lot of the time they are shite, I just didn't want to leave the shop empty handed. They always sound better in the shop.

Posted by webbie on Mar-06-2003 14:15:

Ive had my decks for 5 months and I have currently 201 vinyls, that
equals about 40 vinyls per month. I have yet not gathered the faith
to check how much money I have used on vinyls, four tables and a mixer.

Posted by Rememberence_ on Mar-06-2003 16:14:

4 tables!! blimey. I wish I had one. I'm guessing you spin tech

Posted by Stassi on Mar-06-2003 22:19:

yeah.. i spent lots of $$ on records..
not so bad recently cause I'm looking for a certain rare vinyl

Posted by Tsunami One on Mar-07-2003 03:29:

yeh im addicted. been collecting since nov last year and had to buy a car which meant i didnt get my decks . but ive stopped buying vinyls now and only get the ones i love, and i trimmed my wantlist from about 70-80 to 7 the other day.

im much in the same situation as Remeberence_ as i havent got decks but i am saving up for them.

Since you live in the U.S., you might want to try Dance Records and Satellite Records. I believe Dance Records is stationed in San Fransico and Satellite in New York.

Posted by nick_energy on Apr-21-2003 04:10:

Yea....since i am spining,i can't stop get vinly...there r release every weeks and i just feeling shit...can't miss some nice tracks...but now i'm thinking a prob if i using all my records...some of them just there but touch only 1,2 times..i think it's useless if dun play them more frequency...but can't stop huh...?

Posted by clubsolutely on Apr-21-2003 05:03:

must say im guilty too.
collecting vinyls for 2 years now and have a little more than 200.
mostly i buy from juno and chemical records, just cant help it from keep it growing and growing!
totally adicted!

Posted by dknylady on Apr-21-2003 05:09:

good to see i'm not the only crackhead out there who's hopelessly addicted to vinyl...
i've only had my dex about 4 months now and i have about 90 vinyls already. but God, do i love vinyl! just shopping for it...seeing that the store has a song you love... the moment it arrives in the mail and you can't wait to get home, add it to your database of vinyl you do have, and start mixing them for hours...i love to look at the sleeves and lables, and hear the songs i love being mixed into other songs i love...
it's so bad. now every time i buy something, i think, how much vinyl could i have bought with the $ i just spent?
and my reasoning for not buying something, or going out one night, is "oh, more $ for vinyl!"
i get these urges just to go online to one of the sites i get my vinyl from and spend all this money, which i really need for rent, a car, summer classes, and food. ugh the mininum order amounts don't really help much either. thank god i don't live near a record store, or...i dont' even want to think about that disaster...
and thank god i don't smoke or do drugs..screw cancer and brain damage! more $ for vinyl!

Posted by Rememberence_ on Apr-21-2003 17:23:

why you little... 2#%@#*%@#%@#%@#!@*#!@

oh.. I can't stay mad at you

/me hugs vinyl
