isn't this a little too early for april fool's?

Posted by Ste on Mar-04-2003 23:26:

this is a sad day,

i am still finding it hard to comprehend how one of the biggest and most diverse trance labels in the world, if not THE biggest & most diverse, has managed to get to such a situation it has to close down.

Posted by Joca on Mar-04-2003 23:26:

Like everyone else, i'm shocked. Such talented producers on that label too

Posted by MindShifter on Mar-04-2003 23:45:

Sad

This fuckin sucks!!!!!!!!

Posted by Jocker on Mar-04-2003 23:52:

that's a sad news

Posted by dj raymond wade on Mar-05-2003 00:11:

How is it possible for a label to be bankrupt if almost everyone on this board has several of their releases?

THIS SUX!

Posted by torontotrance on Mar-05-2003 00:18:

Bad financial mgt can sink any company. They don't watch their bottom line and release stuff that no one buys. It's a business afterall. Global Underground got into the same problem, unit sales were good but the ppl at the top just spent too much money and they almost went into bankruptcy. I think some labels get far too carried away with releasing and signing things....far too often and they don't make their money back. THen again, most ppl that run labels are not technically business trained people to begin with. Most deejays start their own labels but how many have decent financial mgt skills?. Also I guess they may blame it on mp3's also but if you don't work hard enought to promote and effectively market your music then you will fail. Also I feel that the the labels don't realize that their target market is constantly changing and they need to keep on top of that.

Posted by barryfigiel on Mar-05-2003 00:32:

Cool

I can't believe this is true!

I had to go to the lightning records website and check for myself... and there it was in black and white.

I am honestly shocked and the label will be sadly missed!

lateRZ,

Posted by Dj O'Callaghan on Mar-05-2003 00:35:

I'm completly fucking gutted.

This is a right shock to me as it to everyone else, I read on their site a few months ago about some rumours about lightning records ending which they dimissed saying the rumours were untrue, but looks like the rumours were true

My fave label too as loads of other ppls.

Posted by Rakoon on Mar-05-2003 00:47:

Woah, this is bad. Very bad

I think the reason they werent making so much money was that everyone only bought big name stuff such as Airwave, Push, Cape Town, Plastic Boy... but ignored other alises by those 2 producers like Nova, The Lounge, Perfect State, and Tribal Warriors. I hope they re-open under Cyclonus Records or something and have their artists focus on only their popular acts so they cash in.

But anyway that really sucks. One of the best labels ever, really.

R.I.P. Lightning Records

R.I.P. Lightning Records

Posted by Rakoon on Mar-05-2003 01:32:

Dont keep yours hopes down, everyone! Even though its the end of Lightning, its not the end for Airwave and Push. From MIKE's website:

quote:
You proberly heared that "Lightning-records" is closed.
It was my home for many years, and with lots of pain and sorrow it's an end of an era.
As we all know Lightning suffered from low CD sales, getting attacked by MP3 downloading, and sales droping all over.
It's a sad day and a loss of a monumentary...
but every END is a new START...
And hopefully also for the Lightning crew.
As i was part of that crew,i will go my own way.
But one thing is for sure...
M.I.K.E. will be back, and more than ever!!!
First of all getting up and running SCANNER records
the next couple of weeks.
But there is more good news on the way...
Be ready for the new PUSH,PLASTIC BOY,M.I.K.E.soon.
The only thing i can say is thanks for the support for many many years.
Let's go for a better future and music will guide your way...
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Mike

Cant wait!

It's a very bad day for all musical industry.

I don't really understand how is it possible. All of trance-fan have at least one vinyl from Lightning.

It's the end of a part of my life. Some tracks will be always in my head. For example:

Aida - Fear love
Airwave - Lightspeed
Blue alphabet - Cybertrance
Bountyhunter - Demilitarez zone
C*Y*B - Now
Cherrymoon trax - House of house
Chris Raven - I know you love me too
Da hool - Meet her at the love parade
Dave Davis - Transfiguration
Energy 52 - Cafe del mar
Extreme trax - Final fantasy
Fire & Ice - Lost emotions
Fun-tastic - Inside your soul
Groove connexion - Trance-dance
Jones & Stephenson - All rebirths!
Les sabotages - Secret
M.I.K.E. - Got to have it
Musix - Do da ya sse the light
Paragliders - Change me
Philippe van Mullem - The secret folder
Phi-phi & Greg D - L'odyssey of love
Plastic boy - Twixt
Push - Universal nation
Quadran - Eternally
Sosa - The wave
Suscreem - Perfect motion
The blackmaster - Time never stops
Trancelab - Landscape
Yves Deruyter - The rebel

PS: They are some foreign sub-labels like Italy, England, New Zealand, ... What will it occur with those?

This comes as a hugh shock!! :/

How did this happen...? :/

Posted by Phu on Mar-05-2003 06:16:

So when DJ JEAN said that lightning is going out of business its true. Shit this is sad news. My favourite label is dead. Fuck!!!!!!

Posted by Walter Mindz on Mar-05-2003 06:25:

Ouch... what a low blow!! It always sucks when a record company goes under. Last year Tinrib records went down (for those that care), and now this year Lightning Records.... man this sucks!! I hope everything works out in life for those that worked for this company.

Posted by Sand Leaper on Mar-05-2003 07:51:

And now,the fierce hunt for the last Bonzai vinyls will begin.

RIP

Posted by TranceFool on Mar-05-2003 08:42:

no words for this....

Gak... I just got a nasty feeling in my stomach...

This is terrible

It's confirmed, statement by Jurgen Leyers avail here,

http://trance.nu/v3/news_show.php?id=1508

Congrats mp3 rippers, you just fucked up one of our scenes most respectable label.

Posted by Sand Leaper on Mar-05-2003 10:48:

Sorry, but pinning all the blame on the mp3 scene is too easy.I don't buy it.Read torontotrance's post. Then consider how many records Lightning sold purely cos of MIKE and L-Vee.Then add the other dozen artists or so on the various sublabels.I doubt that mp3s alone made Lightning go bankrupt.Even Jurgen Leyers says so himself:

quote:
Thanks to these people we have lost a lot of sales and they are partly responsible for the bankrupt of our company.

Funny that nobody has said jack-shit about the other reasons for Lightning going bankrupt, and only ranted on and on about mp3s...

Posted by skip on Mar-05-2003 10:55:

No news at the moment on what's going to happen yet. There might be productions by some of our artists on other labels, nothing's sure yet. Let's hope there's a solution for the future. Hopefully people will think about this when they are downloading music from the net or copying CDs from each other. Thanks to these people we have lost a lot of sales and they are partly responsible for the bankrupt of our company. If this continues, people won't have any music to download anymore...

fuck that! labels don't go down because of that! it's because of bad management i say! and from what i can tell lightning wasn't that good managed! you could never find their stuff anywhere! for exaple the airwave album was so diffucult to find, thank god though, i didn't find it, because of the shitty edited tunes! that sucks!

someone should tell jurgen, that people still buy records and cds, even though they download mp3's. it's easy to blaim it on the mp3's. it's not that easy to admit that you managed the label like shit!

still this is a sad thing!
