Like just about anything in life, everything in moderation. You can drink and drink until your liver bleeds out, or smoke until you have cancer, or eat pies all day until your obese. I think theres a clear line between healthy biological urges and pure obsession.

Anyways, whats so bad about porn? Lets face it, every creature on earth is installed with a natural biological desire to reproduce. Theres nothing wrong with satisfying those urges in a harmless way, and unfortunately, not everyone has a girl/guy to help them out . Repressing them all the time isnt healthy, and people will end up doing drastic things to get rid of sexual aggression. Look in european countries like sweeden or switzerland where things like porn and sex arent strict taboo; their rates of rape and unwanted pregnancies are far lower than here in the U.S. And I hate to use this as an example, but look at the accusations of rape against the catholic priests. Or the teenaged mormon convert who comitted suicide because he couldnt resist the urge to masturbate. Its obvious that repressed sexuality is harmful. Btw, orgasams lower your blood pressure, reduce stress, and put chemicals into your blood that make you feel generally better all day.

So I dont see whats so bad about it. No one forces girls in porn vids to do the deed (legal ones anyways). Like I said, theres a difference between looking at some porn and being obsessed, filling your HD's to the max with it, and subscribing to dozens of pornsites annualy

some people have a biological urge to beat their wives and kill people in new and interesting ways (and yes it happens amygdala and what not can get tumors that fuck you all up and it is then a physical process not a social construct).

Ok, you asked for it...

1. People want to do it, and it doesn't harm anyone.

(that's really enough, but I'll continue just for fun)

2. There is an obvious worldwide trend of an inverse relationship between the prevalence of pornography and the incidence of sex crimes. For example, Pakistan, where pornography is strictly banned, suffers from possibly the biggest rape problem in the world. In the US, pornography is far more common, but still less than, say, Germany (which, incidentally, has far fewer sex crimes as well).

3. It is a valuable economic contributor. Like it or not, porn is good for the economy - it keeps the money flowing.

4. It is a powerful weapon in the battle against the Calvinistic sexual repressiveness which characterizes many modern societies, including American society. Accepting our sexuality as a normal biological function not substantially different from eating, breathing, or walking down the street is an important step towards eliminating imprudent sexual behavior. The more open the discourse on topics of sexuality, the greater productivity that discourse may have.

I'd write more, but I've got to go.

Ok, first off, as you said it yourself... god/religion has basically nothing to do with morality. So keep off with it.

nrjizer an Arbiter brought some very interesting ideas, why porn is healthy for a society.
Now many morality arguments against porn and free sex is that sex is for reproduction only and should be performed for reproduction only... sex for fun is considered sin. That's why anal sex is prohibited by law in some States.
It's a proven fact, that sexual intercourse and orgasms form and strengthen social relations...
A very good example for that a the bonobos a subspecies of chimps. They live in small families where literally everyone has sex with everyone including homosexual intercourse. Those are btw. the only animals (except for humans) performing sex face to face.
Bonobo groups live very peaceful. Even minor differences are solved by copulating....

I think you get the idea... go serch the web.

Im sure that all of us at some time in our lives have had the urge to give some asshole a good ass kicking, or pound or computer desks/monitors in fury after getting fragged . Like I said, normal human emotions, but its how you deal with it is what counts. Some assholes beat their wives or mudrder people. Some can control their anger and vent it with out being destructive.

I dont see how psychopaths or people with damaging brain tumors fit into this argument tho. Beating your wife or killing people in new and interesting ways arent normal human urges

thats just pure opinion. just as mine is on the subject about what should and should not be discussed. By a girl holding her ass cheeks apart so two cocks can be in at once isnt exactly edifying or beneficial.

he never stipulated normal. he just said biological. plus who cares if its normal, like you said its how we deal with it. Instead of nutting up and asking a girl out to dinner, you whack off to some chick on a monitor and you are "satisfying" the urge for the moment. just like serial killers. There ARE healthier ways to vent urges then doing the most imeediately gratifying thing

well if its on the internet must be true

anyways. How much yah wanna bet most of the losers lookin at porn DONT have girlfriends? and you brought up the sin argument which is religion not morality, so relook that one again.

I think sex for fun is no problem in a steady relationship. there are very serious social ramifications for promiscuity *points to africa*

oh, and we arent monkies, dolphins rape eachother in the ass for hierarchy...doesnt mean we should

People don't have a biological urge to hurt others. If you are to strip man down to its absolute natural state, the only reason it would hurt someone is for selfish reasons.
People who beat their wives have alot of built up anger, are very ignorant, aren't able to control themselves (and the list of reasons goes on and on).
And also, if you want to keep the biological urge arguement,
where is teh harm in entertaining a biological urge to wank it to looking at pictures or movies of people doing it compared to the harm of beating your wife?

Porn is not wrong to look at, it is a beautifal thing :-D

Posted by naeblis on Mar-06-2003 21:46:

I have seen a marriage or two that was broken by porn, and what a stupid thing to break something of such great worth. And this was not that his wife was all crazy that he was looking at it, in fact she didn't even know. Well as the story goes he ends up sleeping with other women, and his wife finds out and divorces him. Talking with him, even he said that it all really started when he became addicted to PORN, and things just went bad from there. He regrets it to this day.

"I am convinced that this exposure at an early age to sex and pornography is at the root of my addiction today. I think it is ironic that those who support the business of pornography say that it is a matter of freedom of expression. I have no freedom. I have lost my free agency because I have been unable to overcome this. It is a trap for me, and I cant seem to get out of it. Please, please, please, not only avoid but eliminate the sources of pornographic material in their lives... "

My point is... that it's all filthy, and that it hinders people from healthy lasting relationships. Yeah, sure we all have "biological urges"... go get a girlfriend instead of fantasizing about some slut trying to please you, because the reality is that its never going to be like that. Porn is an unacceptable outlet of sexual desire, that screws you up more that you get screwed, its addicting, and it will never really ever satisfy any long term sexual desires.

It is corrosive to your mind. End of story.

Thats because of their culture and long history of women being "servants" or whatever, back in the feudal days. Not that it justifies any of it, but their strange views towards sex are a result of their (sometimes poor) treatment of women, not vice versa.

Well, the urges are both biological and perfectly normal. EVERY creature on earth has the built in desire to reproduce. I dont see whats so abnormal about it, or fantasizing or whatnot. Servicing your hog is a lot safer and healthier for you than going off and buying a hooker, raping someone, or screwing the first drunk girl who offers. And yes, some people do just sit and fantasize all day without actually persuing an actual relationship with the opposite sex, but girls/guys of your dreams dont just grow on trees . Im a good looking guy and I can chat up girls without a lot of trouble, but ive yet to find someone I can really care for.. I wont bore you with details

The relationship wasn't healthy to begin with, nor were the people.
Of course the wife had every right to break up the relationship after the guy slept with other women, but the fact that "Porn made him do it" is absolutly ridiculous.
It was because the man was so obsessed with sex and wasn't able to control his sexual urges that he became first obsessed with porn then had to go have sex with other women.
The problem does not lie in the porn or the outside thing. It lies in the person. He used porn as his scapegoat.

And you saying that "porn is filthy" just because you think it is disgusting doesn't mean crap to the arguement of whether porn is good or bad. Everyone views things differently.
What is so horrible about people being open about their sexuality? Why is it something that has to be hidden?
No one is being harmed when two consenting people decide to get freaky for a camera, and when someone decides to watch it and get off to it or whatever.
Its just sex.
It's peoples closedmindedness, unequal view of men and women, blind conformity to society or a religion, and pointless suppression and denial of anythign sexual that makes porn "bad."
It is not porn that is corrosive to the mind, it is internal aspects such as these which are.

Fashion modeling has some of the same problems as porn, but it's NOT at all wrong IMO. It's a matter of degree. It depends on whether the majority of people see the stars as degrading themselves or as celebrating their female body. (NOTE: I'm saying here that watching porn and producing porn is wrong in my personal moral code; being a porn actress is NOT wrong in my moral code).

But moral or not, I keep watching porn, and so do the other guys.

next question, why do it if you think its wrong hehe

First of all. This claim is totally offbase, you do not even know the person, and he didn't use Porn as a scapegoat for his failed marriage. He simply stated that had he not started that he would not be in the place he is today. He is a great guy, just has some problems. And I am sure porn helps control "sexual urges".... yes... that why so many people are addicted to controlling sexual urges...

First off...
I do not think Porn has anything to do with hiding sexual views...what you said doesn't even make sense. I guess if you want to express "sexual views"... you could just tell people you are straight or gay, without making a movie about it..hehe.

What does equality between Men and Women have anything to do with porn????

As for blind conformity? Sorry I am not the one that is follwing the trend of 100 million others and participating in wanking off to some girl on a computer screen. In fact, I am the ever shrinking minority that chooses to stay away from it like a horrible disease. I think I would rather grow as a person and involve myself in a real relationship where I can learn things that will help me become a better person rather than secluding myself in my bedroom fantacizing about some whore.

The fact is that everything you do affects other people, whether or not you choose to realize this is your problem.

True self control is learning to master yourself, not masterbate to a .jpg

No I don't know this fellow, but he must be incredibly weak and has many other sexual problems if a simple thing like porn caused a chain of events where he ended up cheating on his wife.
Something as simple as porn can't destroy a relationship by itself.
Porn hurts as many relationships as it helps the sexual aspects of others. It's all in the people's reactions to the porn as I was trying to state in the second part of my post you replied to.

It's all in how you look at it

quote:

Do people want to live by themselves and be alcoholics? Do people want to be hungry or homeless? Here's a tip: analogies only work when situations or phenomena are "analagous." You might want to take that into consideration in the future, so that you don't look like an idiot.

quote:

look at japan, that fucked up stuff hentai rape and shit, and they treat women like shit, shockingly.

If you'd bothered to look up Japan's statistics for sex crimes, you'd find they were lower than in the U.S. Of course, you wouldn't do that, because you're relying entirely on some fictious perspective you got of Japanese society - probably one you picked up in some stupid movie or something. I'd bet large sums of money Japanese women would express greater content with their treatment than U.S. women as well. Have you ever been to Japan? If so, what were you on?

quote:

so do cigarettes, nuclear weapons, and anthrax

Well, at least you make a point, for once. But considering you've failed to give a single viable reason why porn is a bad thing, I don't feel any need to explore the issue further. Regardless of whether other "bad" things also share this benefit, it still is a benefit. That you choose to disregard this merely because it is convenient for you is pretty pathetic, if you ask me.

quote:

thats just pure opinion. just as mine is on the subject about what should and should not be discussed. By a girl holding her ass cheeks apart so two cocks can be in at once isnt exactly edifying or beneficial.

You might want to work on your reading comprehension, because it appears to have some serious deficiencies. I expressed how porn was a contributory factor towards opening discourse regarding sexual activity. I went on to explain that the prevalence of discourse on a topic directly relates to people making responsible choices about it. This is not, in any way, an opinion. Then, you attempt to divert the course of the discussion by introducing irrelevant details about the activity depicted in pornography, which is a blatantly fallacious argument. One's personal opinion about what type of imagery is "edifying or beneficial" is completely beside the point. If you don't like it, don't watch it. I would think that would be pretty simple, even for someone like you.

It's pretty obvious that you have no interest in qualifying any of the baseless assertions you have made in this thread. In fact, the closest thing you have made to an intelligent comment against the morality of pornography -

quote:

*points to africa*

- is actually a sound example of why your imprudent assumptions are fundamentally flawed. After all, pornography is far more rare in Africa than on any other continent short of Antarctica. If you bothered to think things through to their logical conclusions, you'd see that an increased prevalence of porn in Africa would do wonders for solving the very problems they are experiencing. After all, you don't spread AIDS when you masturbate.

So why don't you spare the rest of us your pathetic attempts at refutations and make some assertions of your own - that is, if you have any argument to contribute. Personally, though, I just suggest you shut up, because you're only making a fool of yourself.
