well, you've gotta look at it from a different perspective too... by exercising your freedom and smoking you're affecting and most likely harming other people... this is the problem... as soon as your freedom involves harming others, laws have to be made...

the law makes enough sense.. it serves some greater societal good...

I really doubt that the clubs will strictly enforce the new law. People will probably not smoke because they will be scared of getting in trouble. The bouncers will probably let it slide unless someone complains. If an inspector comes in and sees people smoking the owners just have to pretend they didn't see them. They can't be expected to see everything that goes on inside. Plus, I see all types of illigal things being smoked on the dancefloor. If people can get away with that, then I think someone can get away with a cigeratte.

Yes this is true now, but think about this in the future:

The only way those people will get caught now a days, is if a bouncer smells something, then huts them down (follow the scent hehe) and then catches them in the act - The reason why it's easy to get away with smoking whatever in clubs/parites now, is because far away it just looks like your smoking a butt (Unless you have no skills) =b

But - if that smoking law goes into affect, and if your not allowed to smoke butts in clubs anymore, the second a bouncer sees anyone smoking anything, they'll act - and if it happends to be something illeagal, then well - that would just suck

I'm saying this because I've been to plenty of parties where you weren't allowed to smoke butts, and everyone that was smoking something else got snached up with the quickness -

So we don't know for sure what will happen now - Only time will tell I guess

I dont smoke, and i think its stupid, but i STILL dont think they should restrict it for people who do enjoy it. Its not MY thing, but it may be others'.

I can't say I enjoy smelling like smoke when I come home, but it definitely adds to the atmosphere.

That would be insane if they made a move like that at clubs?! How would they control each and every person at the very moment they are to light a cig? I think it's the best thing that can happen! I'm allergic to the stench and hate smelling like it.

Well at most clubs you get searched before you go in, so...They won't let you bring them in

Of course people can sneak them in too though - We'll see what happends.

ii find that girls do not get searched as much as guys do.... on girls they really don't feel you that much there is ways to sneak ciggys in. you could put them in the pocket of your jacket and then check your jacket and take the ciggys out....just an idea...

Hehe yupyup - there are many ways - When I said "lets see what happends" I ment with like the bouncers - If they will enforce it or not. It'd be wack though to get kicked outa a club for smoking a butt I've seen it happen at a couple of parties before though - That was a long time ago...arg bad memories damnit...oh well heh =b

that's how it is in LA now...u do get kicked out for smoking.

but on the other hand, this country just loves to spout the ideals of "freedom" while snatching our freedoms away from under our feet. they are so concerned about "protecting" us, they just keep piling up the dumb laws and ignoring the important stuff.

i don't smoke, but i have a lot of friends who do. living in a non-smoking building feels restricting at times, which i didn't really notice until this year when i joined a coed frat in which half of them are smokers. the frat has its own house and allows smoking... so even though it gets maddeningly hard to breathe at times, it feels more free than my building and i feel more relaxed hanging out there.

but of course, this country is founded on the idea that the people need to be protected from themselves. i'm so glad i can be trusted.

I remember once hearing that they used to endorse smoking to help people with stress? Now by not letting us smoke in our natural Habitat (I.E. Drunk in a bar or club) will inflict more stress that imaginable!
I went to a local bar in my town, in Long Island, and saw a huge crowd of people outside smoking ciggys.

Impressive that someone has started to notice this. I feel more free in many european countries than in the USA. Maybe, because I am a European Citizen, but maybe it is just becasue most EU law thinks of people as jsut that "people" and not "dumb cattle, that we need to protect from its own fallacies"

sorry for the off topic.

The major question here is:
Is is the governments responsibility to 'protect' non-smokers? By this I mean, is the market able to find a solution to the 'problem' of smoking, or does the government need to intervene. Obviously, we want to enable non-smokers to go out and not need to worry about their health, on the other hand, we are cutting down smokers' freedom to destroy their own health.

I have not yet made up my mind about this smoking issue, as I see points on both sides.

i think that is the wackest thing i have ever herd. i somke and if i went i would want to feel as relaxed as i can. which meens geting drunkand smoken a butt.and anyways isnt it only a butt when u r done with it.
