When I saw him @ Guv on a Reg night, didn't really do much for me (much like Sharam of Deepdish when he was @ Guv for Victoria Day last year, Timo was MUCH better IMO). Prog can be VERY good, same with house. Just has to be done by someone I like. I saw Sander K, WOW, I love his style. I also saw Sasha who is obviously very good, ummm also Danny HOwells was good, Dave Seaman who dropped a bit of everything.

Guys.....honestly......DO ME A FAVOUR - make sure you go see Addy!!! Im not gonna be at this party, and it pisses me off even more ever since i found out Addy was spinnin!! Hes an unbelievable dj that spins a mix of styles. If i could name a bunch of dj's whos tracks hes been spinnin id say (erick morillo, steve lawler, danny howells). Except ONLY the darker shit they spin. By far the best Toronto Dj (for music). His mixing has been off in a few instances i can remember, but the tracks he plays are completely mind blowing at times.....i cant even imagine what he'll sound like at the Kool Haus.

i think the line-up is great, considering ive never see corsten live, him closing would be my top pick...and since holden was moved, i get to see everyone..

one quesion tho, i still dont get what this BT's laptop digital set??
so is he actually there and spinning or what??

Posted by infinity HiGH on Mar-07-2003 04:45:

well, i know what i'm doing at 4am....goin over to the Guv to hear Mark Oliver Corsten is a serious buzz-killer so I'm avoiding him

Posted by brunette on Mar-07-2003 04:53:

Ah, shit.. I know I won't feel like going home @4am.. I guess I'll end up at Guv after.. besides, Mark Oliver was stunning the last couple of times I heard him

Yea I went one night in December and it was pretty bad! *Child of the Universe, Cafe Del Mar, Message #5* and God knows what other old skool trance he dropped...to say the least I wasnt feeling it...!

I like it more when he plays housier/funkier/proggier

Not *harder*/trancier

I cant stand the BXRish, Nukleuz, Overdose type sheeeeite!

To all the bitchers (you, by the way, are the buzz-killers, not Ferry or any other DJ):

1) Can you spin a better set than any of the DJs in this lineup? I didn't think so.

2) Can you organize a better party than the one the Guvernment has organized on this day? I didn't think so either.

What right do you have to bitch? Like so many others have already said, if you don't like it, don't go. The only way you are ever going to get things exactly the way you want it is to do it your fucking self. As long as you're going to someone ELSE's party to see someone ELSE spin, you have TWO choices: GO PARTY, or STAY HOME.

My version of this party is "who gets most drunk" or in some cases "who gets hospitalized first."

Smiley DJ DISSAPOINTMENT....

Well, I must say this is dissapointing. I haven't been out partying since Tiesto, and I was really looking forward to a good night out. I am bringing some people for their first time to a big club. In fact these are some of my fellow athletes up here at Wilfrid Laurier, and I don't think they have ever heard electronica at all!

Well, basically, as it is their first time, I made a deal that we would leave at 4, which is more than reasonable. Ferry is what I really wanted to show them, and as it was, I thought I would get to hear at least half his et (if he came on at say 2 or 3), but looks like we will miss him altogether...In fact, their intro to the scene is gonna have to be through....wait for it.....*ugh*...progressive.....

For my part, I am used to staying at parties late, but I have too much shit to do these days....closing the place down during the school year isn't what I consider smart, so it is est to get out of there at a reasonable time...plus the hour drive back to Waterloo....

Well, I guess I will catch him next time. I look forward to meeting some of you! I will be the 6'5" blond haired guy in the tank top, and balearic shades! If you see me, say hi! Judging by the music situation I'll prolly end up in Acid Lounge the whole night......Cheers!

Gregory

Dear Special K....

Dear special K,

I really don't think it's fair to slag Mark like that. you seem to have a habit of doing this. All I'm asking is for you to be aware of the fact that the night in question was advertised as "The Gift" (an oldies/anthems event) and most in attendance were expecting the majority of songs to be classics that night. Guvernment only holds these events once or twice a year (anniversary parties and NYE being the other occasions). Demand is very high for the classics and believe me Mark could do them more often.

Since the new years I've had the pleasure to attend Guvernemnt every single week, and I know the majority of the music Mark plays is brand new. I take offence to the fact that someone who comes once in a blue moon for one of his extended sets would judge him in this fashion. If we add up the total hours that Mark plays at Guv't in a year, I would say about 8% of what Mark plays would be considered old. Remmember Mark has to play the odd anthem to keep the place busy week in, week out.

Fuck trainspoting...Let's dance

Cheers,
Shaya

and so on...

What are you, his official spokesperson?

It's true, Mark can be amazing sometimes (yeah, usually when opening for a guest DJ) but other then that, nothing special.

Mark Oliver never gets the respect he deserves and is incredibly under-rated.

He's playing the guv on a sat night, it has a sound, he's told to play it. During the guest dj nights, he's given more in the room of freedom to accustom his set. That's why some of you may prefer him on those nights. He's not a better dj on those nights, he's just playing his sound to the crowd. Which IMO makes him one of the best dj's out there.

nobody says hes the greatest DJ the world over...but he is on international standards..i just despise DJ bashing..and thats my 2 cents

Yep, that's true...

On regular nights he's a bit more commercial, and only seems to step it up a knotch on special events... and once in a blue moon. But still, he has the skill to play at the top level, and can do so whenever he wants to.

Set times sound good, and honestly what did everyone expect ? Can't have Ferry go before Holden, reason being the tempo of songs that he drop is just so much higher then anything that Holden has in his box. (although I would have loved Holden closing the night with "I have put out the Light" )

It would also have been nice to see Mr Hamel on the decks but i guess he is planning for that deep sea expedition ( or something equally ridiculous ). But i'm not going to complain. 3 out of 4 headliners works for me. Should be a good night, lets hope that all the above mentioned arrive in good spirits and rock the house to pieces...

Ummmm no I stayed away from the week that was advertised as the classics night specifically for the reason that I knew it wasnt my thing. I went the week after, the last Saturday in December!

As for me having a habit of slagging Mark?! Can you please point me out to where I have "slagged" him in the past?! If you think that when I say that

*I like it more when he plays housier/proggier/djs in general that play that way*

is slagging him then YEA YOUR RIGHT IM SLAGGING HIM!!! I dont *think* I bashed him in anyway, nor do I think saying that I prefer if when he plays another way is bashing him either. If you or anyone else feels that, well then TOO BAD FOR YOU!

Also theres nothing wrong with playing older stuff, BUT SOME older stuff ie. that annoying epic shit doesnt do it for me AT ALL and I cant stand hearing it! Im not saying that he plays like that every week either, what I am saying is the last couple of times that I have gone it has been that way!

Worm Popper Speaking of wives...

When will they cease admitting patrons to the KH? Does anyone know if it's around 3, 3:30 or 4?

My wife might be joining us late just to see Ferry.
