headed to Glow last night in DC for Johan Gielen with Wally(ekstasis). Left around 7:30 to get there so we could grab a bite before we went in. Got in around 10:30 so we could make the comp list and then chilled upstairs in the vip watching "The Spy who shagged me" lol until about 12. Johan showed up around 12:15 and we had some drinks and chatted it up till about 1 when Johan went on. From 1 on Johan played one of the best (cheese-free) hard trance sets I have heard in awhile. Not hard trance like acosta-cheese, but quality, WELL-MIXED, mostly all new productions or reworks. Johan was jumping around in the booth all night with so much energy. Even his wife was there cheering him on. Wally and I hung in the booth mainly as Johan kept handing me free records and cds, so I wasn't going anywhere . Plus, for Wally, there was redbull to be drank Johan played till about 4 am where he closed out with System F - Out of the blue (Epic Remix). The true fans were really the only ones left as Johan was packing up, but the cheers were just as loud as they had been all night. For those that don't know, Johan will be headlining the Dance Valley party at Opium Gardens in Miami on March 20th...

He didnt have a CD either. It was on vinyl.

Thought I'd share my comments about Johan Gielen, which I posted on the GLOW message board...

Johan Gielen rocked the house! He was full of energy, getting the crowd pumped up! I just couldn't stop dancing! Johan's choice of tracks was harder...at times it was more tech-trance than anything. There was nothing "cheesy". Johan dropped many bangin' tracks...here are some of the great ones I remember hearing...
Kid Vicious - Proceed
Svenson & Gielen - Answer The Question (love it!)
Underworld - Born Slippy (never get tired of this one!)
Camisra vs Mauro Picotto - Let Me Show You Lizard (hell yeah!)
System F - Out Of The Blue

I was hoping Johan would come back for an encore. Sure enough...he came back for two encores! One of the last tracks I heard was Airscape - L'Esperanza! To top it all off, I got a signed flyer from Johan Gielen! I couldn't have been happier! IMO it was one of the best nights at Glow this year!

Can't wait to see Johan Gielen at GLOW again!

johan is my favorite dj i think he has some of the best mixen skills ever.dont take my word for it tho i have never been to any clubs but i do like the music very much but if there would be any dj to get me to go to the club it would be johan at avalon in boston which i think he has never visted before but i would go to see him drop one of the illest non cheesey sets
