area 51 lost ~$15000 when Armin came last june. fifteen THOUSAND. if that means anything, it should serve as a harbinger.

We may have an in @ the palace.(ok we do have an in) and the show was to be June 1, but then Tiesto june 4 fucked that all up.

Its being reworked now.
as well Dom/Ferhenheit has some good UK Hard trance coming our way.
Its all about the window of oppourtunity. There is only so many clubbers in calgary, only so many will come out for any given event, and bla bla bla, all the parties with no real growth in fan base is only hurting us.

Im trying hard guys, really I am.

Well I'm sure any one of us will be willing to help out if it brings more people through town.
And I dont know what's the deal with Calgary. We'll get a big turnout for Tiesto (and probably PVD) but no one goes to anything else (like Armin). It's really confusing.

well for one, Gold club has ruined pricing. People complain and will not go to a club if tix are more than $20. (Or so ive noticed) If you are bringing a DJ in for one night, youve got higher cost, and have to cover it with higher cover. That is easy. I mean, look @ Van or MTL or TO, tix for the same party on the same tour are WAY more expensive. If you make them that pricey here, ppl wont go. Add marketing on top of that(armin was not done well IMO, and I flyered for it)
I mean, say any one of these guys were to come to town, how do you think they would fare?
Marco V
Johan Geilan
Scot Bond
Matt Hardwick
Eddie Halliwell
Don Diablo
Cor Fin(Oh fuck, I cant spell his name)
Armin Van Buren
John 00 Flemming
Guy Ornadel

I would love to see all of them, but I would be scared for my money on that show.

All this city wants is Tiesto, Ferry, Oakie(he needs to come back, will do really well) and PvD. Those 4 are sure bets, everything else is who knows

Posted by j_spot on Apr-08-2003 07:42:

you are kidding about jules right?
last time he was here, oh 2, maybe 3 years ago it was hella fun, nice and busy, but not too too busy.

he will come, and it will be busy(i am hoping)

Ya..but that's when raving was still "cool", that's why Im doubtful

Posted by dartrance on Apr-08-2003 18:45:

I think armin would be a lot More packed now for sure with lots of promoting

he is #5 in the world (as well all know rankings lead to more demand whether we like it or not)

Plus the june show tons of people did not even know he was coming back.. compared to the april show which goldclub put on (and that definately showed)

jason is right
benson and hedges has over saturated our club scene with top djs at low prices
back last summer there was at least 1 A-list dj playing here a month if not more
people got used to having big name talent coming through, and they could pick and choose which events they went to
before GCS if there was a big name coming EVERYONE went
like take the first time tiesto came
i haven't seen the max bell that packed before or since

the only way to bring a dj in nowadays is to throw a rave
that way you get a bunch of locals to beef up the roster and then people can justify paying 30-50 for a ticket

i would be all for trying to bring in another big name, but i'm not for losing a large amount of money

I dontknow what the problem with area 51 was when armin was here in june. Maybe the fact that the club sux and the fact that defstar has crazy haters in this town. And as for more expense shows in TO and MTL im gonna have to disagree in march when tuss and i went and saw ferry, james holden, and BT in the bomb ass club guv complex it was only 20 bux. Now get a tripple headliner in calgary and i gaurantee it will be more then 20 bux. Scot Bond was here in Clagary way back when jet to ibiza first came out, i know way out west was the first of the first string back in 00, and he was the last(scot) it was at the roxy and i have no idea how it went because they had a fucking dresscode at the club what the fuck is that. So i doubt he would even wanna come back. As for ornadel well his set at the palace summer of 01 (?) was fucking tite but no crowd. You could probably blame that on imperial bros and there lack of promotion capability and the fact it was august long weekend.
I also must say i think some dj's want to come back here, like tijs for example. He wouldnt keep comin back if he didnt want to. Calgary has had some good crowds in the PAST and im sure there will be good crowds in the future, we just need a promoter/club/club owner who will listen to the people.

Posted by Robert Miles on Apr-19-2003 17:31:

wow.. i guess i'm lucky to have moved to Toronto then hehe.. i used to live in Calgary...

o well, u guys got PvD.. we lost him coz of damn SARS!

but then i wouldn't have gone even if he came.. damn exam the next morning!

Posted by fervour on May-05-2003 03:55:

been reading ur guys' comments, I like what j-spot said there are only so many clubbers in calgary... which is true, calgary is pretty much hiphop r&b based... and there are only small amount of us who actually have the love and passion for electronic music,,,, like come on. pvd for example, even thought it was sold out, im pretty sure there were a lot of people who went and didn't even know who and where he came from...and it was on a sunday, if they had it on a weekday, im pretty sure the turn out wouldn't be as great.
like armin @ area51, i was totally shocked by how many people showed up, *shakes head* even thought I won't be seeing johan, marco v, l-vee, steve helstrip, b&j, lange etc... anytime soon... but im still happy as long there are actually big names coming in once in a while.
