Ok, I'm back and no longer drunk (what a night!).
Anyway, what I was saying is that I just think that 50 Cent is overhyped and overrated. Yeah, I agree he is the real deal as far as actually lived the life he raps about but so have alot of other rappers (Xzibit etc.) He's lucky he's now signed by and vouched for by the biggest and most untouchable rapper in the world right now (Eminem). And Eminem doesn't have that good of a record as far as finding new talent (D-12? Obie Trice? MEDIOCRE!) Thanks to a good beat by Dr. Dre he's blowing up. Good production can get you far now a days. Look at Justin Timberlake! (Thanks Neptunes and Timbaland!) Take some catchy lines (which he stole from Luke "It's your birthday") and put it on a nice beat and you got a radio hit. 50 went from a label reject and laughing stock of New York to having the #1 album. And that song "Wanksta" makes me wanna puke. That beat sounds like Dr. Dre's poor attempt at ripping off Timbaland.
His flow is nothing new. He sounds like a Mase impersonator. If it's that lazy flow you like then check out Shyne (even though he's in jail now). I remember 50 Cent back before Shady/Aftermath when he had that underground single "How to Rob An Industry Nigga". Funny concept, wack song. Wack rapper.
As far as newer rappers who actually have talent then check out Ludacris and The Clipse. Ludacris actually has CREATIVITY and ANNUNCIATION in his flow. Listen to Ludacris and then listen to 50. He makes 50 sound like a little boy playing with a microphone.
and dJohn, don't talk to me about hip-hop.

i used to hold the bitter title but i got rid of that....dJohn shows his musical knowledge. Personally I can't stand much hip hop or rap these days...I'm more of old SKOOL purist...like back from the days when they rapped about things that mattered.

50 cent is a wanksta!!!
The beat is banging, but like most other tunes, lyric wise it's nothing new or special, too typical... Outplayed, and commercial...
wookie was the bitch complaining about dJohn's post when he did nothing. Then again, you know nothing about music anyway.

I'm not a big fan of this song but I've probably gotten laid a couple of times thanks to it.
Come on, 50 cent is like Ja Rule or Nelly. It's not real hip hop, not even rap, it goes beyond those genres. This is pure and extreme party booty music, but you would probably have to be American to understand that.
It's just a song to get it on with da girls girls girls. What's the big deal?
who said I was a wannabe....you don't qualify as a dj and will never qualify as a dj...no matter how much...your other half goes on about your mixing.

then again..the music discussion forum is almost any type of music.
All of you that are dissing hip hop are missing the point:
1. This is just a pop song- booty music-party music. Get it?
2. Hip hop is electronic music and shares a distant but common history with the music everyone likes here.
3. Like it or not, hip hop is the most popular and influential genre of our times from a music history perspective. There are hundreds of innovative and brilliant hip hop producers out there.
Oh, and about the 50 Cent song-sure it's nothing great. But Americans that complain about it are virgins. period.
I used to listen to hiphop/rap (whatever you wanna call it, to me it's all hiphop) a lot. But it was for people like 50 Cent I stopped listening to it. When the whole Bad Boy formula took over the hiphop industry and it was only about the money, cars and girls I more or less switched to trance.
I mean when people like Mase, Puff Daddy, some rappers on the No Limit label and numerous others were making money with their music I knew it was time to go
I still listen to my classic hiphop albums (Big Punisher, KRS-One, Biggie, Pac, DAS EFX, Cru, Common, Wu-Tang etc.) and every now and then some very talented artists, like The Neptunes, step up. It's a shame though that the quality of hiphop went down the drain.
atypical of hip hop
Nothing incredible about this track, its pretty standard 'hip-hop' if you ask me. and to all those spouting about how '50 had a hard life' .. what does that have to do with his music. ?!?
50 cent, Ja Rule, Nelly are to hip hop what = Darude, ATB, Scooter are to trance.
rather listen to the afrika bambaataa stuff and the early NWA with rakim and eric B...that's real hiphop. Made on electronic instruments = electronic music and the music discussion is ANY FORM OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC. MASE got it smart...realized....hell..the industry is selling out....and now he is a minister and refuses to go back to his old alias.
