pvd is a man, not an idol.. suck it up...
If u get lucky, get an autograph... and a pic.. if u don't - life goes on...

Posted by obs on Mar-30-2003 07:01:

why don't you guys give him your underwear after you creamed in it from shaking his hand to show what a big fan you are? it's a bit more interesting.

Posted by davedresden on Mar-30-2003 08:22:

i'm sure pvd is very approachable, just make sure his bitchy booking agent pam film isnt around, she will dig her nails into your arm and yell at you to get out of the dj booth. she might even lodge swear words your way and then get a bouncer or two to remove you.

this is what happened to me at space in miami when i had an "all access pass" on me.

it's people like her that hold the dance scene back.

When i saw Paul he came up to the crod afterwards and did autographs, pics, for at least a good 25 minutes. As a matter of fact he signed like 6 things i gave him and didnt give the slightest bit of atittude.

damn, that must not have been very fun. time to find another booking agent, heh Paul? haha.

i've seen my fair share of celebrities....never bothered them though. just cause someone is good at what they do doesn't mean i'll start jumping around a AAA certified mechanic begging for a handshake, a signature, and a picture

Same here, although I've mainly had the chance to hang out with movie peeps (and videogame celebs, if they count as celebs)...and for the most part, I never bother them mainly out of respect.

In interviews and stuff, they just give the impression that they hate it or are sick of people coming up to them, so I try to be respectful and leave them alone. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but I just never want to do the wrong thing.

But I remember this one time at a party down in LA where I got the nerve (the alcohol had taken over) to walk up to Jaime Pressly...only to get run over by Tara Reid who was storming across the dance floor for some reason....ruined that moment. *sigh*

and then there's armin at the other end of the scale...

after twotribes in march, he was the last act, after spinning 2.5 hours he stayed to sign and shake hands with the crowd for about 15 minutes. should be noted that he was battling sickness and looked very tired, and still had to jump on another flight down to melbourne for a gig a few hours later.
dats some dedication to the fans right there. im not a big armin fan, so dont think im saying it just cos i'd suck his dick at will :|

I went up to PVD in the VIP room at Gatecrasher a few months ago with a friend to see if he would let us take a pic with him. He totally blew us off. We then watched as he did exactly the same thing with about 4-5 other people that went up asking for an autograph or photo.

I'm in 2 minds about it really. I mean you can imagine that everywhere he goes he gets hassled and he was just trying to have a few drinks with friends before his set and didn't want to be hassled. So with that in mind... fair enough.

On the other hand though he was a total prick about it. He could have politely said no and that would have been it but instead he just blew us and others off really rudely.

If you are going to go up to him I definatly wouldn't do it when it is playing or about to play and try and pick his mood first.

Yeah Armins very approachable, almost too approachable for is own good. After his set at Gods on friday i went up to the lounge and he was up there, i couldn't be arsed to get a pick myself, but as i had my camera and was doing the pics for my website, a fair few of my mates wanted their pics doing. The first girl went up and just grabbed him, he was talking with Pulser, and tried to tell her that but she just wanted her pic. But anyway, he posed fo it, big smile and everything when a lot of DJ's would of made them wait.

Not met PVD yet, hopefully will soon as he's my fav dj by a mile. Just hope i don't catch him in a bad mood.

i wish when Tiesto comes to Seattle that hes approachable. i really really wanna meet him and say hi. but i know the *secret* words that will have him talking to me in no time

so that shouldnt be a problem.

Paul was very friendly when I met him in December. He came up to a group of us TA's after spinnin' at Glow, and shook our hands for a min or two before he hopped in the limo. After his set was finished, he signed a ton of autographs for us right outside the dj booth.
He's sneaky tho... he escaped thru the rear exit... we knew he'd be there tho hehehe

Heres my experiences:

*During Mixing*: Dont even try to... I once tried in April 2001 and he was very cocky there & almost ignored me when I asked whats the name of the current tune.. "Its a remix of mine", me: "what remix of what tune".. he: ignored me...
The following times Pauls bouncers were very "rude" during mixing, so he absolutely hates it to be disturbed.. The most thing u can expect is to have a quick photo of only HIMSELF or to have a few autographs, but also only when hes in the right mood during mixing.

*After the Set* Be sure to be quick as hell.. He leaves the club very early and usually doesnt take much time to take photos / autographs after.
All I can tell is that in 2001 Paul didnt bring bouncers with him so it was piece of cake to talk to him after the set (he used to spin until closing and then to wait until the club was empty & then left), but nowadays its impossible with 2 bouncers who wont let you come near him.
After all hes not cocky at all after his sets (unlike during them - understandably), but you have to be 1) lucky to get him and 2) lucky to get him in the right mood

GOOD LUCK!!!!

I met Paul at Avalon. Right after he was finishing his last track and he put away his headphones I went to the booth. As he was putting away his records, he looked at me as I snapped a picture. I asked for a picture with him and he walked over and took a pic with me. DDDDDDDDDDDD Maybe it's my Vandit shirt. hrhrhr

I've also heard a TA was waiting for a train after a PvD party in the UK and Paul actually went to him and started a conversation.

that sux man- but you know, paul has a lot of diehard fans that would want to be up there, so somebody's got to regulate. pvd concentrates on what he's doing to the full and watches his crowd and then pushes them....he wouldnt be able to do it the same way if lots of people were there trying to haev their moment with pvd in the middle of his set! i think trying to make conversation in that situation is quite ridiculous.

he was very chill after glow, i said thank you and shook his hand. he also signed my twilo hat earlier that night, took his time to write his name out nicely as opposed to some random flyers which got squiggles for signatures. but i always see him grabbing and signing things from the crowd...what youre getting signed makes a difference. a record sleeve would do well if it's his. people throwing random flyers at him though only get what they deserve. i think its all about the manner. if you hold something up and wait patiently he will sign it some time. i cant say i had the chance for the pic with pvd though.

but yeah, he himself in his interviews says he is shy, so you gotta keep that in mind and not overwhelm him!

Thanks for all the replys everyone. I will make my attempt and report back. One thing I learned from reading the posts is that PVD is married? Does anyone have any more information on his wife like a picture, how old she is, and how long they have been married? And finally, judging from what a lot of you have said, I think my chances will be better if I have a Vandit shirt on but where can I find one online? Should I just get one made myself?

When I saw PvD back in December,he seemed to be in a good mood. I think the crowd depends on his mood,he gave us mad encores and then afterwards he hung around and signed stuff. He signed my TPOD cd. Tiesto seemed to be a nice guy when I saw him, signed my hat and shook my hand.
