normally it takes time of listening to different types of music to tell the different. Being able to tell comes with experience imo

Differentiation of the genres definitely comes with experience and time because apparently to everyone that isn't hardcore about the music, "it sounds the same." Something I don't understand, but dj_mdma pretty much summarized the main differences I can tell between a house and trance track. Of course then we go into the differences of Prog. House and Prog. Trance where everything gets even fuzzier...

Personally, not a fan of house, but a lot of people seem to like it. Prog. house is good though.

As I stated in my earlier post, I think 29 Palms and Three N One are my favorite house/trance crossover artists. If you want a couple other tunes that have the same sunny euphoric feel as "Touch the Sky", get:

I always try to explain it to my friends as trance has more of a classical music sound to it and more emotional whereas house is funkier, more disco-ish and is more for like a sunny day at the beach hehe. I still don't think these are good explanations

i agree with DJ-Kuza on a few things but in no way is trance just a minor genre look how many track tracks come out each week in compared to all the other styles im pretty sure alot more trance is being put out than any other genre cept maybe pop/rock and the likes but as far as electronica goes the club/europeance trance is big.

And Trance is big in the rave scene, and mostly hard trance at that right now. But Digweed and a lot of house DJ's are huge. Even DnB is huge now. Trance is jsut one of many being used in the electro scene. Hell, half of the people raving in the USA are into breaks and prog. So trance isn't as big as it used to be, but I still love it, and it's still growing.

Second - I was talking about plain house, which to me is nothing but a watered down beat and a funky bass/guitar line. I don't really count prog house or hard house into a general "house" genre because they're significantly different.

House have moved into 3rd place in my fav genre's, trance being tops, and hi-nrg trance being second.

Deep house is the kind I like, not too keen on the discoey type of house, or prog.

and since theres so many latin ppl, if ur not sure what the difference is b/w house and trance, u can look at how ppl dance. with house music, u can dance around with it and it makes u wana move your hips and get all funky. but with trance, most ppl will bang to it, like jump to the beat and ofcourse the usual punchers which is fun. but then u got your hard house.... thats more intense funkiness and alot faster and "harder" at times. oh and this is what i dont get yet, theres sum djs like tiesto that say they play "tech-house"? im not clear on how that goes.
