and there of course is all the people who grill everyone they meet who says the listen to trance/eloctronica.... how annoying
Definitely agree with the people here who are saying that figuring out what genre something is is often more trouble than it's worth...probably why PvD doesn't claim to play Trance, just "Electronic Dance Music", why worry about categorisation when you can just enjoy the music?
It can be useful in that if you like artist A in such and such a genre you have an idea where to go from there, but with the wonderful world of file sharing and high speed connections it's such a simple thing to just start dipping into everything and figuring out what you like from there even that end of usefulness for genres is starting to become less and less necessary.
To me if you know the difference between Trance, Prog, House, Breaks and Goa you already know more than enough to get by :shrug:
