All my guns never have a good week together

My midfielders all sucked this week, but my forwards and backs rocked. Last week my forwards and backs sucked but midfielders rocked

Posted by jono4L on May-09-2006 14:30:

my teams are coming along nicely, the only loss i have had was the first round when one of my teams in league 2 beat my other team

Posted by 00soups00 on May-11-2006 14:01:

Team 1 -

Ins - Bruce

Outs - Fevola

Team 2

Ins - O'Loughlin, Polo

Outs - Baird, Skipper

lol polo was a no-brainer but i really hope he's not a week wonder.

hurn out, bucks not playin wont hurt too much as i've got a monfries to slot in from the bench. yep serves me right for using up my trades before teams are announced.

I'll pick polo after this weeks game... not entirely convinced... im 80% certain ill bring him in the side next week....

Would have been great for Hurn to be playing this week... I need him to jump in price so I can trade him off...

Question: Do any of you guys want me to write up a barra guide for playing Dream Team? If you do... ill write it up and post it in this thread

BEGINNER
----------------------------------------------------------------
What sort of players should you pick at the start of the season?

The MOST important part of Dream Team is selecting your team for Round 1. If you take your time and select your players in an 'educated' manner you reduce the chance of wasting trades and cash throughout the season to compensate for your retarded selections.

Backs: - In every team in the AFL there are Rebound backmen... They play off the half back line and run the ball out of the defence. The ball typically always ends up in their hands and the majority of times it ends up in their hands 'uncontested'. They rack up easy marks and kicks making them a sound selection for your Dream Team.
e.g Ben Johnson Shaun Burgoyne Joel Bowden
Note that sometimes these players will also play in the midfield which allows them the opportunity to rack up even more stats.

Rucks: - The traditional ruckman is not a good Dream Teamer. Their job is simply to just tap the ball to their midfielders. However theres always a few ruckman that go beyond their call of duty and get amongst the goal scorers and the contested marks. These are the guys you select for your Dream Team rucks.

eg. Dean Cox... Peter Everiit.... Brendon Lade.... Josh Frazer

Forwards: - Unlike your backs... You need to select key position players. What does that mean? Well these are the guys that every AFL team kick the ball to in order to kick goals... They look for them 9 times out 10 when the midfielder has the ball. That means heaps of marks kicks and goals. Stay away from crumbing forwards unless they get a shitload of tackles and are also rotated in the midfield

eg. Matthew Pavlich... Nick Riewoldt, Johnathon Brown.... Warren Tredrea
----------------------------------------------------------------

Team Structure Select expensive Centres or Backs?

Centres naturally will always score well and will always get the ball. Therefore its a good idea not to overspend in this area when someone cheaper can be more efficient.
Eg Byron Schammer Corey Enright
Save your cash and spend on your Rucks and Backs as they are the areas that have the least gun players.

----------------------------------------------------------------

How important is your bench really?

Your bench / substitutes has a number of uses -
1.You have an injured / suspended player in your starting 22 and you need them replaced without wasting a trade on them
2.Cash Flow
When you select your team prior to Round 1 commencing.... EVERY substitute / bench player should be playing in that round. The reason behind that is... every game that player plays... their price more often than not will increase ( further explanation in Elite section ).
When their price tag has hit a peak ( where they are not increasing in value anymore ) you have a number of choices...
a) Keep them on your bench
b) Trade them for cheap player ( who is playing and will gain value ) so you gain a profit
eg. Trade Beau Waters ( who is on your bench doing fuck all ) for Polo and you will make about 70 grand

Do that a few times in the season and that will give you a decent salary cap for you to play with near the mid end of the season when the finals start. This is where you upgrade your mediocre / fringe players in your starting 22 for GUN players. But be careful.... if you make too many of these cash cow trades... you wont have enough trades to upgrade your fringe players to GUNS. So you need a fine balance.

HAHAHAHA i can see you crying now.sookysooky.

I read something in the paper a while back if you're scoring over 2000 then you are doing well.
I didnt even know you could really win money from this until I read that article.

wahhhh *cough*

If youre getting an average of 1800 you are doing well... scoring 2000+ once means nothing unless its consistent ;P

game on bitches!

Posted by 00soups00 on May-15-2006 00:33:

a great matchup between the two heavyweights of the league #1

Team Soups vs. Al's Big Macs

produced a draw.. 1590 a piece.

great match down to the death, a few strategic moves by either coach could've won it..

this is shaping up to be a fierce competition.

Posted by Philby on May-15-2006 00:36:

can we start the competition again?

Posted by Dean Millson on May-15-2006 00:50:

So i had Jonathon Brown as my captain, scored just under 1600 and still got smashed...

just notice i've only got 8 trades left for the year, i think i have to settle on my current lineup +/- some handy additions.
