He has done nothing but post Bible versus to assert his points (which is the definition of Begging the Question fallacy/Circular Reasoning), he has yet to answer a great many questions and contradictions that have been pointed out to him by me and others here, and also attempted to evangelize and proselytize us with other biblical verses.

So that covers logical fallacies, evangelization to others (atheists alike), and copy/pasting biblical passages. So I fail to see exactly what part of Arctic's statement is incorrect. Perhaps you can explain.

You are asking questions about God. Correct? The Bible explains God. The Bible explains the rules of which God has set, and the Bible explains life. If you are asking about God, why aren't we allowed to refer to the Bible? I find it ridiculous you think we aren't allowed to.

I might as well be asking why I'm not allowed to sniff the big piece of dog poop in my backyard and tell the future by examing the approximate sulfur and methane content of that dog poop, because as we all know, it's prophetic dog poop. The dog poop said so, so I know it's prophetic. So here's the deal, you can cite the bible as evidence, but I'm allowed to cite my backyard dog poop as evidence. And I'm also allowed to form mathematical formulae out of the bird poop patterns on the balcony. By the way, the bird poop patterns explains the origin of the universe. Want me to explain? Too bad, it's beyond your comprehension, you're too narrowminded.

How about you read the rest of the thread and find out why the bible is 100% bullshit... I'm not about to start another debate on that.

This isn't about my opinion, it's about cold, hard evidence, which the bible is fully lacking in.

Yes, I being an internet bully. Seriously though, if nothing "looked convincing enough for u" then you were obviously reading with severe confirmation bias and need to educate yourself on the basics of common sense.

That is all.

You can teach a child to believe anything at an early age. Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, etc. But if the child continues to believe when he or she is an adult, it is considered a neurological disorder. Its a shame that after 2000 years, only five percent of this planet is getting over their neurologiccal disorders.

Posted by tathi on Mar-12-2004 06:57:

well said, but its good to note that 70% of the people in this thread arn't suffering from this collective neurosis

Yes, thankfully.

As were Heinz tactics in the 'debate'. He repeatedly assured is that we were all going to hell to burn in hideous pain for all eternity, then had the decency to post a smiley face afterwards, presumably to make us feel better.

He ignored most posts that disagreed with his point of view, and when he did answer, he snipped out most of the main points that the other person made, responding to one or two inconsequential arguments with circular reasoning (the bible is true because the bible says so) or other common fallacious arguments.

I'm not throwing unfounded accusations around here, I believe that Heinz did exactly what I said he did. If you're going to make an attempt at apologetics, then at least have the decency to stop using arguments from ignorance, employing circular reasoning and so on, or if you inadvertently use them, then at least acknowledge it when someone points out your error. Instead of going down the 'you're all going to burn in hell you dirty immoral atheists & agnostics!' road, how about making an honest attempt to rationally argue and/or discuss the issue at hand. When people copy paste endless amounts of bible verses, use the same flawed arguments over and over again, even when confronted with evidence that their post contains multiple logical fallacies, and assert that everyone who doesn't share your viewpoint is going to burn in hell, obviously they're going to piss others off.

Heh, kinda late to post, but the movie finally arrived here (ok, so we're 2 months behind the rest of the civilized world, could be worse), and I must say that IT'S A TOTAL PIECE OF CRAP!!!! I mean, what the hell was that supposed to be? 3 hours of continuous watching of Jesus getting whipped and beaten??? How retarded can you get? Ok, he got whipped and beaten, I get the point, 5 minutes should be quite sufficient for anyone to get the picture. I almost fell asleep while watching that idiocity.

pssst. jesus was a masochist

haha 2 months behind, fortunately you wouldnt have missed much if you didnt see the movie. I saw the movie and was horrified and disgusted. The movie is pure bullshiit. The execution was way exagerated and it would have been better to focus the movie around other aspects of the bible. i wouldnt really know, but at least make a movie with a plot or something.

for movie, i would compare watching this movie to watching the Matrix Revolutions. If you havent seen the matrix 1 or 2, you would have no fucking clue whats going on. The only difference is that the matrix is way better.

btw, watch the latest southpark episode, its about the "passion"

Random-ish question coming up.

Are you familiar with the concept of the burden of proof?

That's wrong, I'm not using my arguments from ignorance. I've given you my answers,if you don't like them. Then tough.

Hey, If you would read back a couple of pages or so. You'd pretty much see that I'm not into that.

The Bible contains no fallacies. The Bible is 100% accurate.

But,I don't go around saying that " everyone that doesn't believe in Jesus and God is going to burn in hell. "
That's not a pleasant way of stating your point of view.

Idiocity? Talk about immaturity.

It's not a total piece of crap, that is a VERY VERY important movie for many reasons. He didn't go through just 5 minutes of whipping. I'm glad that wasn't cut out, because I think everyone needed/needs to see what happened to Him. Atleast show some respect.

why do we need to pay money to see him guy being tortured, cuz i didnt wanna see that. i went hoping to be enlightened and enriched as an individual on religion, but instead i wasnt and ended up watching the worst horror flick ever that left me in disgust in the end.

tell me, would you watch another movie of another person being tortuured for 1 hour? i sure would not. i dont care if its jesus or anyone else, movies like this dont belong in a theatre.

and tell me, how does jesus die for "our sins". he doesnt look like he died for you. its not like he had a choice to be executed or not.

and finally, people back in that society were tortured and crucified.

It's not a horror movie, That's the thing. This really happened. The reason people need to see it, is so they can realize what Jesus did for them, What God did for them.

Movies like that don't belong in the theater..Then take out things like "Kill bill" and things like " night of 1000 corpses " and movies like that.. If "The passion of the Christ" can't be played in theaters then neither can movies like "Saving private ryan."

Jesus took on all the sin of the world,He died for everyone. He did have a choice, He could have not done it. Simple as that, but He chose to anyway.

Posted by tathi on Apr-04-2004 06:06:

Not just a horror, bit of comedy in it aswell, black humour, not as funny as Kill Bill though, Kill Bill was more realistic

As artic has pointed out, there is enough evidence, (or lack thereof) that jesus never existed. I believe jesus existed, the lack of evidence that he did not exist just proves that he was some small time manipulative, sociopathic, cult leader, that suffered from schizophrenic delusions of grandeur. There must have been a turnout of 30 people at his crucifiction.

It was not until the Council of Nicea where an amalgamation of the major religions and bowdlerisation of anything that would be considered detrimental to their new biblical propaganda tool (Gnosticism etc) that christianity beguiled the masses

Next up: "The Passion of Auschwitz"

You can watch Jews get gassed, shot, and given lethal injections for a couple of hours. Maybe it could spend some time down in Block 10 and we could watch some good old fashioned medical experimentation, too. It's all really happened, and it will be good for people to see how to efficiently get rid of Jews, just in case the need should ever arise. This film has been rated "Fucking Sick" by the MPAA, and anyone who wants to watch it has been rated "A Fucking Douchebag" by the Arbiter.

All this talk about pain, suffering and bloody gore is starting to make me interested :P

As Stan says in South Park, "Your movie sucked, now give us our $18 back."

Posted by occrider on Apr-04-2004 07:08:

So when's the next council going to meet to add the passion of the christ to the new testament? I mean all the fundies are taking it as fact (despite the fact that they're equally ignorant to the origins of the movie as they are to the bible). So when can we codify all of this? Btw, Monty Python's the Life of Brian is being rereleased in American theaters to commemorate the success of jesus chainsaw massacre .
