Nothing wrong with it, but the tracks I recognized seem more prog trance or pushing that borderline than true prog. Some good tracks on there though. Breeder is the shit, for sure. I need to get my hands on Philth.

Most on your list I wasn't familiar with, but Evolution and the Baguio track are pushing prog trance. I like them both though. Actually finally got the Baguio track last week. Creamer and Stephane K would be a prime example of base prog house, which is what I consider prog. It's all opinion on the derivations though and semantics. Baguio track is actually really deep and proggy in it's percussion and bass, but the vocals and melody push it slightly towards prog trance. My buddy I play with a lot has "Walking on Fire". Great track.

lol how can you not like his stuff? I am not a massive prog fan but christ, he is one of the most talented producers we have nowadays, its not the same old sound being churned out.

i like creamers/stephane's non vocal/dubby stuff...which is kinda limited

walking on fire isnt really prog, its def trancy with a prog bassline

you should chk out the tunes on my list u dont know...they are probably the deeper...

i also like most of andria dora's stuff,

i dunno, its not that his productions are bad, there are just some producers/tracks that i can get into, and then some i dont. I just can't with him...

he has a couple decent productions. but honestly, i haven't heard anything really good from him. kinda just boring repetitive. his music never really builds any feeling or emotion. bland, but well produced.

sorry mate but isnt that the "general" opinion of prog with most people?

How bout Benz and MD? Like any of their stuff, or any of the stuff on Release and Nascent? Subsky?

Posted by sandstorm03 on Dec-24-2004 00:06:

the first stuff i heard from benz & md, seemed really good, but never really enough to buy anything...

oneric is good
the g-pal mix of dilation is alright
i like subsky alot, along with his mix of sound 84
their silver planet release was dull & blippy bloopy though

release records i know
Medway Trauma
subsky strawberry fields
Flash Brothers Release Time
mavi A Tribute to M&M's (Subsky Mix)
Girl Nobody - Cages lemon 8 mix
Ngen - Darksides (thomas penton) <- i think thomas penton rocks

Subsky Albino is the only track i know off nascent

i dont think that i would really rate any of them greater then 8/10 though...maby trauma/cages lemon 8 mix/darksides

There's some other good stuff on there. I just got a new track that's pretty good, but I don't remember it's name. I was just curious what your stance would be. BTW, 8 or 10 is pretty good, if you ask me. Most of the trance I hear produced now is at best 6 of 10, with an occasional good/great track, here and there. I miss the 97-01 era of trance/prog trance. Breeder, Natious, Christian West, Sander K, etc.

most of trance always wasn't great...but the bad stuff wanst heard, now with all the radio shows it is...

2-3 years ago all you could listen to is live sets. most of the bigger djs keep the crap out of their live sets. now there is a billion ways to find tracks, exposing more of the crap...

Bro, you hit the nail on the head.

I agree there is some crap out there, and alot of online DJs think its cool to play the newest stuff, regardless of quality.

I know this response was meant to be tongue in cheek, but these comments will happen whether or not links to these shows are posted.

Look folks, we need to realize that trance doesn't live in a bubble. Prog influences trance. House influences trance. Techno influence trance. And in return, trance influences these genres back. To say "this is tranceaddict, not progaddict or house addict" ignores where trance comes from, and where it's going.

It's one thing not to listen to these genres because you don't enjoy them. Fine, I can deal with that. But to ignore them (and others!) is what leads to this homoginization that you folks are calling "McProg" or "American Progressive". Like it or not, this is all we're going to hear unless we start listening to other things.

Ultimately, this music reminds me of an aspen forest. Yes, it has the beauty intrinsic to a forest. It is something to be enjoyed, spun by djs and danced to. But when you look deep down, you find that each of those trees has the same dna, same genetic structure (since aspens breed asexually). We need new material, new influences, and new ideas.

So folks, if you have a favorite radio show available ont eh internet, lets hear about it. Start a thread (one with links here in the MD, one with a tracklist in the TR forum) about it, and lets hear what the rest of us are listening to. Trance, Prog, House, Techno, whatever. Heck, I'll look around, and try and find one to post about as well.

Good luck all, and remember, we're all on the same side here. Happy Holidays.

If I recall Wonder sounded like Sound54 and that's why I didn't buy it. Too similar. I thought it was good, but didn't need it. I have their mix of Subsky - Albino (great), Oneric, Dilation, and Sound54. I actually prefer the original of Dilation, but the G-Pal is good too. I also prefer the Shiloh mix of Oneric. Think it adds a bit.
