Random foot note that will make Mets fans breathe a sigh of relief:

Back in July of 2002, the Mets wanted outfield help. So Steve Phillips called up Toronto about Jose Cruz Jr. He offered a Single A minor leaguer for Cruz. JP Ricciardi, being ever so stat-heavy, decided against the trade and it never happened. That minor leaguer turned out to be one of the best players in the Majors by 2006, David Wright.

Could you imagine... ?

BTW...

I was at the Yankee Game last night...

List of things to do at Yankee Game:

1. Got Drunk
2. Yelled at people
3. Argued with retarded Yankee fans
4. Got 2 people kicked out of the game
5. Security warned that they'd kick me out
6. Gave everyone around me 5 when the Yankees were scoring it up in the 9th (before the delay)

Not completed:

1. Get into a drunken fight.

That game was TOO MUCH FUN!

I was 'seeing the game' but there were these 2 immensely annoying drunk kids sitting in the box to my right. So I made it my goal to piss them off, and when they got kicked out... everyone around me thanked me... so I feel like I did a civil duty.

Melky's defense > Sheff

You may be right but at least my point here is true. Sheff looks lost out there sometimes and he lolly gags on D which drives me crazy.

Suuposedly, Yuliesky Gourriel defected and is in Columbia right now. And, again supposedly, he's already signed a contract with the Yankees. I find the second part extremely hard to believe. If he really defected, there will be a lot more hoopla and contracts flying from the Mets, Yanks, Dodgers, Cubs, Cardinals, Red Sox... etc. Doubt he'd sign with the Yanks before hearing other offers.

Wang looked great last night, with adaquate bullpen and 3 all-stars returing by september I think the Yanks can make playoffs and win one round with the team they have right now. They have 3 solid starters(better then most). 5th starter will be skipped again next week, well maybe a good 4 wound'nt hurt. This Yankee team seems quite resilant except E-rod.

Yanks have reportedly picked up Abreu and Cory Lidle
I'm sure more details to come

pending Abreu if he waives his no trade clause

Posted by Member of X on Jul-30-2006 19:01:

Considering Abreu keeps an apartment in NY and already said that he would like to play for the Yankees, it's a done deal. Also, include Cory Lidle in the deal for the Yanks first round bust pick last year and 2 other mediocre minor leaguers. It's strictly a money dump by Philly.

Lidle over the last month is 4-1, 3.74 ERA, 1.16 whip, 33.2 innings and 25 K's. That's good but he's known to be streaky and I think is on one right now. Still...can't be worse than Sidney Fatson or Shawn Suckon!!

I'm not a big Abreu fan as I've mentioned here already. Little power anymore, pretty bad defense, and not considered the greatest clubhouse guy. Obviously he's a great OB % guy and can drive in runs, get steals. It's just 16 million is a bit flattering for his results.

Is it safe to assume with this pickup that Sheffield wont be making a comeback in the outfield the rest of the season? Looks like he might be DHing when he gets back.
