PS Often an overlooked but very enjoyable park is Camden Yards. Best food I've ever had at a baseball game was this barbecue place they have behind center field.

as for the red sox, I've seen them on the road and their fans gave the game a great vibe. pretty much felt I was at fenway park.

I personally think the loyal red sox fan base deserve much better than what they have right now.

I went to Yankees Stadium for the first time in my life earlier this month, and I'll have to say that Yankee Stadium > Shea...a few years ago you would NOT have ever heard me saying that. i was a total naysayer in general. and cmon, getting hyped up over going to a *BASEBALL* game? lolololo but there IS something about the entire experience...getting off the train, walking down the stairs to see the entire street lined up with Yankees souvenir shops and bars and massive crowds of fans in Yankees gear all heading to the game...i was taken aback even BEFORE I even stepped into the stadium itself...

so maybe what ppl are saying about the neighborhood etc. DOES come into play...if they DO develop around the new Shea Stadium, it will be a different story. but is that actually in the plans? won't it still reside within the same area (surrounded by highways, that mechanics strip...iono, for a place NEAR a huge park such as Flushing Meadow, that area is sure desolate and a bit shady).

not to mention that Yankees Stadium is a lot smaller (and every seat provides a good view of the diamond) so it creates more of an intimate experience in general. I wonder if any of these will change with the coming of the new stadium

Ive been to both Yankees and Mets Stadium and each has it own pros and cons to it. It goes as well with any other stadium. Location of the stadium does contribute the experience before and after the game.

Yankees Stadium
The train ride from Manhattan to the Bronx is a experience on its own. Riding with other die hard Yankees fans, feeding off the vibe was pretty awesome. Even getting off the train and seeing thousands of people on the street walking into different bars and shops was insane. Seeing strangers giving hi-fives to each other b/c we are all rooting for the Yanks and bash on the people that we are playing against.

Of course the game it self, its just a great feeling to be at the ballpark with beer in one hand and enjoying the day with friends.

The train ride back home, lol seeing a bunch of girls jumping the turnstile and get arrested was classic. LOL More bashing on fans on the train ride back home.

Mets Stadium
Even though Mets stadium is located near the junk yard and flushing meadow park, i find it ALOT easier to get to. Its not as congested as Yankees stadium b/c there isnt any bars or shops in that particular area.

The game was pretty exciting and def fun. Even though we were chilling at the picnic area, beer in one hand and foot long hot dog in the other, you cant go wrong with that.

Fenway Park
Why is the location of this park in the middle of everything? I have driven around the area when the game just let out. It took me about 2 1/2 hrs to get into a parking lot that was about 2 blocks away from me!! I think the location of the park is just horrible and ill just stop here. LOL

ok well THAT time it was awesome...but remember it was a RESERVED area and sitting there BEATS sitting in the nosebleed section. being closer to the action DOES make a difference no doubt. iono it may be easier to get to...but the view while taking the 7 train to flushing is just desolate. and i didnt feel any vibe during the trip there even...iono. not to mention there HAVE been complaints from METS fans that the 7 train isnt exactly the MOST reliable source of transportation (2nd mode of transportation is the LIRR which is substantially more expensive. thats hardly fair, is it?)

YEAH SERIOUSLY!!! its fine that its IN the middle of town (so as to create the perfect environment) but this is just plain ridiculous. ive seen school buses get stuck in the traffic jam that this triangle creates...poor planning and i guess they underestimated how much traffic congestion would eventually occur. And parking is just insane. when i used to drive up to Boston 3-4 times a month to visit friends in the BU area during my college years...i used to HATE having to drive in this area. Isn't urban planning suppposed to SOLVE these problems?! maybe they did not account for Boston becoming such a HUGE college town as well (iono) as well as nightclub spot. They COULD have put the nightclubs a lil further down Commonwealth...or EVEN jsut a block further down Newbery, couldn't they? there was NO way that there was such a SMALL area zoned for entertainment venue purposes or whatever permits u need to build...not ALL clustered in one SPOT. Just my $.02

yankee stadium is actually huge compared to other ballparks. what'll change in the new ballpark is that there will be a lot less seating in the upper deck and more on the lower levels

for the last time. no more junkyard shops surrounding citifield in 2009.

why wouldn't urban planners think the surrounding areas and the effects/plans of building such a thing? gee i wonder.

because the tier section of yankee stadium is built closer to the field than it is at shea. shea's design flaw is that the higher the sections, the further from the field you are, especially when behind home plate.

even so, it isn't possible to have a fully vibrant community surrounding the stadium. Once again, it's in a park. Sure, part of it is on a street which isn't in the park, but the entire stadium is within a park.

Yeah, part of citi field will be adjacent to a parking lot, but this really isn't as much of a factor as you think.

PNC park is similar in that regard. Part of it is adjacent to a parking lot. Part of it in next to a bunch of shops and restaurants. It's still one of the best parks in the majors. (The best one I've been to).

it's not a requisite. i'm glad i won't have to stare at broken down cars and a burned out structure in 09 and after while riding the 7 into flushing.

The location isn't bad since it's conveniently placed near the T. So even though traffic is horrific during gamedays, it could be a lot worse.

edit: it's also near a bunch of bars and restaurants since it's near BU, so I'd argue that the location of fenway is good.

It's not bad compared to getting to Dodger Stadium. LA traffic + No Public Transportation + fucked up parking lots = dodgers fans getting in by the 3rd inning and leaving by the 7th so they won't get stuck 2+ hours trying to get out of the nightmare of a parking lot
