How many gods did we believe in thousands of years ago? Many more than now, but they dwindled down and they will continue to dwindle down. Until eventually all people have faith in is the possibility of a higher being but nothing even remotely linked to any of our current deities.

Are you speaking of the variety of pantheons that encompassed the world, or just the sheer number of Gods each one had?

Reason being, monotheism brought about a rather militaristic, authoritative cohesion to swaths of mankind; As the technology between travel and communication evolved, so did the transmission of likewise belief which merely galvanized unity to an unheard-of scale, what with the Persian and Roman empires becoming the new standard for nation-states, Proselytization through force, as well as the evolution of mankind's standard for "survival".

Religion, itself, has only ever been a primarily social institution fixated on tribal cohesion - reducing things down to one God, one portfolio of tenets, is more of a consolidation dynamic than it is a phasing out of mystical thought.

Was there a movie made about this with Forrest Whittaker and Adrien Brody?

Okay, a reasonable answer. The soul is not the essence of life, and probably isn't even a real thing, so use that to answer all of your other questions.

Just because we have the capacity for thought, and are the only species that are aware of our own mortality doesn't really make us "special." The idea that we have these special souls just because we have the ability to think that we do is kind of circular.

All we have is energy. Since energy can't be created out of nothing (or at least to our current extent of knowledge it can't), our "soul" (energy) probably just gets recycled back into the vast pool of energy when we die, like I said before. So "you" cease to be "you" as you would identify yourself now, when you die. You're broken down into the basic building blocks of life, and it starts all over again.

Yeah, it's reasonable....

So, no hell or heaven?

Too bad, life is not funny anymore

Believing that should make life more fun for you, not less.

How does the Muslim God differ from other gods?

The god of Islam, Judism, and Christianity are one and the same (Allah in Islam, Yahweh in the other two but the same entity). The gods of Hinduism (and it's many off-shoots and sects) are manifestations of Brahman (the ultimate reality... of note; it would be intellectually honest for Hindus to consider any god of any faith to also be a manifestation of Brahman although I cannot say many do). That covers the "great faiths" I could go on with some others but most (roughly 85%) of the world's religious people believe in one of the above gods.

Yes but none of those civilisations had the understanding of the world that we do in modern times. Generally though as we got smarter, we stopped believing in something as ridiculous as the god of fire, but we created beings with even greater powers.

There must come a point where the majority of the population is so well educated that science, mathematics and rational thinking will overcome beliefs in something that has no proof whatsoever. A more agnostic view if you will.

At least that's what I hope will happen, because I turned from religious to not and I don't see why others couldn't as well.

watch this one if you don't have ten minutes

Maybe thats a bit too fast, since its a bit hard to keep track at times but still, one can understand thats quite a long list of victims.

Ive actualy been watching this videos all day and it as severely dropped my faith in humanity. Some call ins are so moronic that you seriously have to wonder if they are fake and if tey arent, how did the caller figure out how to use the phone to call in in the first place since some of them dont sound smart enough to be able to get dressed by themselves in the morning.

I've got a few of those lol-worthy ones on my channel, but I did try to sift through the rubble and find a few semi-intelligent callers that sparked good discussions..

If you were on the fence about God's existence before, you won't be any more after this. HE LIVES!!! No other explanation....

Love Poundin' Sensation

Don't judge the ignorant.
God created those poor creatures as well.

Try to look beyond their insecurities ..
when they lash out at people they hardly know....
It all stems from a lack of happiness.
And the mundane lives they live.

~ ONE LOVE~:

I wish I knew about this show 10 years ago.

That said, I'm going to call in with my Sim analogy one day and argue with them for a while for the lulz.

It's funny because you can almost hear his brain breaking while he tries to handle the "What made the higher power? ANOTHER higher power?"

I wish we'd stop saving stupid people from themselves and let survival of the fittest rule.
