I was raised Catholic, so I feel really, really bad about this.

You are free to choose and believe what you may, and let believers choose and believe in what they may. Since we are in a music forum, I'll use the following analogy. It's like telling a trance head that House music is real music and their music sucks, and a trance head would come back and tell you the same thing ( you can add minimal or progressive head or w.e. taste of music you might enjoy), but you know? In a tolerant world people actually learn to respect each others tastes and beliefs and that nuisance and discussion is not necessary. If you call yourself mature and more knowledgeable, then you would know better, but your comment doesn't make you any better then one that would come to this board and preach God almighty. Now I know of all religions been intolerant to each other but I place blame on weak man using a cause to their own good, now back to Japan's earthquake.

Except that analogy doesnt cover people feeling good about themselves because they seriously believe that just by talking to their invisible friend they are doing actual good in the world instead of actually doing good. So as far as analogys go, yours was quite a poor one.

Anyone that is just praying for things to be better are essentially doing nothing.

Since there is no god(s), they should at least donate some money before making themselves feel better about the shit stuff that happens in the world.

Ditto. I have no problem respecting people's right to believe what they want, but the problem is that beliefs inform actions. If someone actually thinks praying is helping a situation when there is no evidence that it works, bad shit can happen. <-- I'm not saying all Christians are as stupid as the parents in that story..but once you start accepting ideas for bad (or nonexistent) reasons, you are much more likely to let in other false beliefs later..and holding beliefs that aren't consistent with reality is never a good thing.

I just prayed that my faith would be boiled down to intellectually void magical thinking which consisted of a preposterous belief that my imaginary friend only answered my prayers in a way which was consistent with how I think things should be and that, apart from kneeling and muttering my wishes quietly into my hands, placed palms-together with my eyes shut, no further action, on my part, was required.

Well, Faith requires action, therefore action of praying will require doing good ( donating money, sending aid and assistance which most religious groups are already doing If I'm not mistaken?) therefore, I believe, a true believer would pray and act by doing above actions.. so yeah. Anyone see this yet? I don't even like dogs, but this is heartbreaking. The video is of a shivering and disoriented dog sticking by another injured dog, refusing to leave his its side. Talk about loyalty.







The good news is, both dogs have been rescued and are alive and receiving vet care.
