I was raised Catholic, so I feel really, really bad about this.

Originally posted by Capitalizt Well I thought the comment was much needed and spot on. ![]() Nobody denies that praying people's hearts are in the right place, but the absurdity of praying to an omniscient/omnipotent being always strikes me as rather pointless and a bit conceited. Honestly guys, do you think you know something your god doesn't? If a god exists, he designed the universe, the planet, and knew about every factor involved in this tsunami long before it took place. Being omniscient and omnipotent, he knew what the consequences would be and could have prevented the earthquake if he chose to, but he obviously wanted it to happen. Why should he change his mind now? If he were to hear your pleas and and alter his plans for the aftermath, wouldn't that imply he wasn't omniscient or that made some sort of mistake in the first place? What kind of theological implications would that have for ya? Every comment that disabuses people of the notion that prayer has any effect is a positive thing in my book. Sure it may hurt feelings and cause a few outraged scowls in the short run, but in order to make a difference in the long run, we need to move towards a world where people deal with reality on reality's terms, take whatever practical action they can, and stop believing they are helping things by talking to themselves. If that means a little rudeness towards superstition after events like this, so be it.

Originally posted by LiquidX You are free to choose and believe what you may, and let believers choose and believe in what they may. Since we are in a music forum, I'll use the following analogy. It's like telling a trance head that House music is real music and their music sucks, and a trance head would come back and tell you the same thing ( you can add minimal or progressive head or w.e. taste of music you might enjoy), but you know? In a tolerant world people actually learn to respect each others tastes and beliefs and that nuisance and discussion is not necessary. If you call yourself mature and more knowledgeable, then you would know better, but your comment doesn't make you any better then one that would come to this board and preach God almighty. Now I know of all religions been intolerant to each other but I place blame on weak man using a cause to their own good, now back to Japan's earthquake. Thank You.
Anyone that is just praying for things to be better are essentially doing nothing.
Since there is no god(s), they should at least donate some money before making themselves feel better about the shit stuff that happens in the world.

I just prayed that my faith would be boiled down to intellectually void magical thinking which consisted of a preposterous belief that my imaginary friend only answered my prayers in a way which was consistent with how I think things should be and that, apart from kneeling and muttering my wishes quietly into my hands, placed palms-together with my eyes shut, no further action, on my part, was required.
Thank you, Jesus!

So how much radiation does a pool full of spent fuel rods with no water give off compared to if the main reactor containment was breached?

Originally posted by Joss Weatherby No, I wouldn't. I am not the type to shit myself in a disaster. I understand the consequences, the probabilities, and the risks, and I react to that. That is how you survive in situations like these, not by running around like a fucking retard gobbling down iodine pills 6000 miles away from a nuclear plant that is barely releasing dangerous levels of radiation into the atmosphere.

While it appears you've taken to disagreeing with one of our senior/junior members, relative to the time you began posting, your thoughts are so cogent and inherently meaningful that even if the person to whom you are replying takes issue with you in one of his/her subsequent replies, I would like to urge you, here and now and in perpetuity, to stop posting, entirely. Thank you, very much. Realize that I'm not taking issue with the contents of your post(s), nor am I endorsing it. While I wouldn't put it out there with as much fervor as IGK, it does seem as if the actual situation, and the one you made it out to be, are quite different stories in actuality.

BTW if anyone cares, Echos is in Japan now. She said she was leaving Tuesday, so I'd assume she is in country by now... That is unless they changed her plans due to the plant stuff, not sure.
Anyone see this yet? I don't even like dogs, but this is heartbreaking. The video is of a shivering and disoriented dog sticking by another injured dog, refusing to leave his its side. Talk about loyalty.
The good news is, both dogs have been rescued and are alive and receiving vet care.
