Hey chimera, how's your lower back?

That's it: next week I'm going to see a nutritionist. My body is almost fine, but no matter how much I run, my stomach refuses to shrink! I lost 4 kilos, I've built some nice muscles, and I can't get rid of 'em love handles

Posted by chimera66 on Jul-31-2009 01:47:

it's pretty much all diet. imo before you go spend good money on a nutritionist try keeping a food diary for a week. my guess is that you will be surprised at what you eat/drink on a weekly basis.

Actually, I know, because I live alone - but, I don't think my diet is that bad. I just don't know what to do with the carbs. What am I supposed to eat? Wheat and rice is my staple diet, and I try not to overdo it

Posted by lenazi on Jul-31-2009 02:02:

if you insit on eating carbs eat them only in the morning.

they have vegetables in bresila lira

I'm a vegetarian, I eat vegetables all right

But, really, only in the morning? How 'bout lunch?

you can have carbs but cut back. have you ever tried just looking through a couple cookbooks to see what you like that isn't heavy on the starches?

LOL I met that guy a few weeks ago! He decided to tell me that the way I was doing barbell curls was wrong Ginger haired sonofabitch.

Hmm... not really. I'm going to give that a try... but still, I think going to the nutritionist is a good idea regardless. I'm very disciplined, don't get me wrong, but the moment I start spending my money on my diet like that, I'm sure I'm going to take it a lot more seriously

if you are going to eat stuff with flour, go with all grain and brown/whole wheat. It still has carbs, just not as bad.

Note taken. But does it really make that much of a difference? (I know I could just google it, but I'd rather read your explanation )

Posted by lenazi on Jul-31-2009 02:55:

You have to check the ingredients whether white flour or wholemeal flour was used. These are the two main types of wheat flour: the wholemeal and the white flour. In the production of wholemeal flour the whole grain is used. This type of flour has an extraction rate of 100%, which means nothing is removed during milling. White flour is refined. The bran and nutrient-packed germ are separated from the rest of the grain and so many nutrients are removed.

And there are different types of flour between these two main types. It is commonly called brown flour and has a higher extraction rate than white flour. It contains more bran and this gives the flour a darker colour. The wholemeal flour contains all parts of the grain, the fibre-rich bran (outer layer), endosperm (middle layer) and the nutrient-packed germ (inner layer). The bran provides fibre, B vitamins, minerals, protein and other phytochemicals.

The Endosperm contains carbohydrates, proteins and small amounts of B vitamins. The Germ is packed with minerals, B vitamins, vitamin E and other phytochemicals.Whole grain foods are an important part of the diet because they provide many nutrients. The regular consumption of whole grain foods has been linked by researchers to a reduction of several diseases including heart disease and cancer, especially colon cancer.

Not only that, but your body has to use more energy to digest it, which ultimately improves metabolism.

Posted by Lira on Jul-31-2009 03:01:

Interesting. hmm... maybe I can get used to whole food, colon cancer sounds like a real pain in the arse

I'm going to pay some special attention to that next time I go to the grocery store (i.e. tomorrow).

Posted by lenazi on Jul-31-2009 03:01:

thank christ for whole wheat pastas, it makes a diet easier to follow if i know i can at least have it once a week.

Hah, that's exactly what I had in mind... if I'm to begin eating whole food, I want to begin with the noob-friendly stuff

you still need to eat responsible portions and not over do it.

if you are a vegetarian, i'll update my recipe thread with a few good recipes that are easy and can make you feel full without the pasta.

ps make sure you read the pastas ingredients. Some brands only use half/half..avoid those and go the 100% whole.
