Toon 'perplexed' by Bernard Newcastle have insisted that full-back Olivier Bernard is not being kept in the dark by the club over the offer of a new contract. The 25-year-old Frenchman insisted on Monday that he was yet to receive an offer and seemed resigned to leaving the club in the new year, with his current contract expiring next summer. However, the Magpies claim Bernard and his representative are fully aware of the deal they have proposed. The club said in a statement: "Contrary to comments made by Olivier Bernard on several occasions, Newcastle United's representative dealing with the matter has confirmed unequivocally that the player has received and knows about all the club's contract offers. "The club is therefore perplexed over the player's continued allegations that he has yet to see an offer. The club's policy is naturally not to conduct contract negotiations through the media but on this occasion feels it must publicly reject Bernard's statement." Bernard, who joined Newcastle from Lyon in 2000, told The Journal: "I'm not really any nearer to securing my future. "Just show me the contract. For now I don't find it difficult not knowing what the future holds - as long as I'm playing football I'm happy. "I have said before that if I have to go, then I will. Until then I will continue to do my very best in a black and white shirt." |

Originally posted by Turner Boumsong snubs Magpies Jean-Alain Boumsong has emphatically ruled out a move to Newcastle by claiming only an offer from Real Madrid would tempt him to leave Rangers. The French defender joined the Ibrox club on a free transfer from Auxerre in the summer and has already attracted admirers, with Newcastle manager Graeme Souness making no secret of his desire to take Boumsong to St James' Park. But the highly-rated player has ruled out the prospect of a January move south of the border. He told the Daily Record: "If offers come in over the January window, it would be rude not to study them closely. "It is, of course, up to the club to place any proposals in front of me but unless there is something really major on the table to force them to change their plans I won't be changing mine. "I have no great interest in quitting Glasgow at all. I'm very happy at Rangers. I like the physical side of the game in Scotland - it's been good for me already and my attitude is that there remains lots for me to learn here under [manager] Alex McLeish. "I'm happy to continue my education under him and I enjoy playing in front of our fabulous fans. "Frankly, unless Real Madrid were to come in for me, I'm really not interested in moving from Rangers at all."
Gah, 3-1 and how am i not suprised it was Bramble who scored Newcastle's Own Goal.
Newcastle are also claiming that Boumsong will come to Newcastle in Janaury.
Newcastle are supposedly after Lyon's leftback Eric Abidal and Marseille's Abdoulaye Meite (Centre Back).
Finally Inter are interested in a Part Exchange with Emre, Van Der Meyde and Kily Gonzales for Dyer.
Obiously Inter haven't watched Dyer recently.

We're playing a different fucking team every week out there. I know all our defenders are shit but let's let a defensive partnership develop. O'Brien and Bramble have actually kept clean sheets before. Taylor is being played at right back. He may only be 18 but he's already captained England under-21s at centre back and has impressed on the right, I'd say he looks safer than any other of our centre backs so we should move him in the centre and play Hughes out right until Carr comes back. Same goes with midfield, it's changed every week. He put Bowyer out wide and Dyer in the middle, can anyone explain that one?
We have the most serious injury crisis in the Premiership which obviously hasn't helped. We couldn't even fill our substitute bench against Liverpool or Lisbon. But whose fault is that? Nufc.com put it the best:
quote:
It's time some serious questions are asked about those responsible for the fitness of the players at the club. The spate of muscle injuries is now beyond a joke and the time it's taking for them to heal is incredible. Even then, players are seemingly put in before they are ready only to be injured again, Stephen Carr being a classic case in point. Why did Shearer's injury flare up again in training this week? Why was Bellamy injured in a warm-up and will Nicky Butt, Patrick Kluivert or Kieron Dyer ever be fully fit?
Looks like Souness has driven out one of our most talented players. No doubt we'll get a price which nowhere near reflects his value.
Laurent Robert:
quote:
"If nothing changes, I seriously think to talk about my case with the officials. I want to talk with them to take a true decision. I want to know if they still rely on me. "Indeed, I have contacts. The clubs are not stupid! They can see I don't play a lot but, when I play, I am good. "People talked about Valencia, but there are other clubs that follow me in that country. "In England, I also have contact with top clubs. I still favour England. I feel at ease in that league. "A comeback to Le Championnat is not impossible even if it is not my priority. My wages are not a problem. "I can also be loaned out, at least until the end of the season. "The manager has no confidence in me. He doesn't talk to me. There's nothing. He just doesn't like me. "He says I am lazy in training and tells people I am no good. All the time I am just supposed to sit on the bench. "It looks like I am not going to play for Newcastle any more. I feel I have proved myself during three years in the Premiership but the manager keeps putting me on the bench. "I want to stay with United, I really do. But if I am not going to play then I will move. "Normally Newcastle are challenging for a top-three place but now the club is nowhere near that level. "That hurts me and it's very hard for everybody. Every fixture we face these days there is a question mark hanging over us. I don't know why this is happening, but I find it very frustrating. In my four years at the club we have never gone so long without a win. "Liverpool was a game I wanted to play and when Olivier was told he would start at left back I thought I had a chance. But I didn't play from the start and I don't know why. "Even when I do come on I don't know where I am supposed to play or what I am supposed to do. "It is difficult for me, but even more difficult for the fans. You can't look at what went wrong against Liverpool - Newcastle have been in this position for a long time now."

Just been confirmed today Alan Shearer is out for another month. He has missed the last 7 games.

this thread is boring unlike the inter milan one

We could be missing 8 players for the Arsenal game. Ambrose, Butt, Carr, Johnsen, Kluivert, Shearer all injured, Dyer and Ameobi doubtful.
Arsenal are missing Cygan, Reyes and Gilberto.
Could be painful. Are we ever going to be able to put the same team out two weeks in a row? And what is Souness playing at dropping Bernard for Elliott and playing Taylor and Hughes in their opposite positions?! We may have to play Robert up front for this one, but then if Milner plays left, who plays right if Dyer is injured? We may have to give N'Zogbia his first ever start.
Arsene Wenger admitted Souness was in a difficult position ahead of this game:
quote:
"That's why I was always against the transfer window becomes it gives an impossibility to the guy who comes in to make changes straight away because he has to wait. "There is no real impact on the policy inside the club. Then you have to make rush buys in one month. "The transfer window is near the end of the season because we play something like 24 games before the end of the year and 14 after the end of January. If you are bottom of the league in November, you have to wait until January to do something. "Then you risk going down and spending money. On top of that, prices get inflated because when it gets close to the window the prices go up. Many clubs buy new players in the last five or six days because they know they have to do something." "At the beginning of the season you would expect them to be fighting for the top four. I don't know how they got to be where they are. It looks to me from the outside that they have many injuries which have continued throughout the season." "He (Laurent Robert) came very young to England from PSG and had a good spell at Newcastle. I read a statement from Shearer once where he said that he's a great player but not consistent. Why, I don't know." -- Arsene Wenger
hate to say it but I can see this being a 3-1 / 4-1 scoreline (to arsenal)
On top of the 8 players who will probably miss tonight's game (including birthday boy Dyer) Bramble and Elliott are also new doubts. We could be without ten players for this. Fuck it, might as well hoy out the reserves.
I might be getting someone's ticket for this game, gonna find out soon.

Newcastle 0 - 1 Arsenal (Vieira '45)
We were the better team for 60 minutes of this game and probably should have won it. Arsenal scored seconds before half time with a lucky deflection after the ball fell kindly to Vieira. It bounced off Jenas and looped to send Given the wrong way from 25 yards out. This came minutes after Newcastle were denied a blatant penalty with an arms length handball from Ashley Cole who admitted it after the game. How Arsenal ended the game with 11 men I'm not sure as Van Persie in particular pushed his luck all night as did Ashley Cole. The referee had a very poor game. This was demonstrated in the second half when Robert had a free-kick in a perfect shooting position for him and the referee moved the free-kick forward ten yards right onto the line of the penalty area. None of us wanted the ball moved but the referee decided to 'award' us by giving us a more difficult free-kick. He was scared to book Arsenal players time and time again and it was becoming a bit of a joke as Van Persie should certainly have left the field and he did nothing about Arsenal's time-wasting both in the first and second half.
Wenger said: "In my opinion Newcastle are a very good side. If they play with that spirit every game, I can't imagine they'll lose many games. They fought like mad, and went for every ball in the 90 minutes.
"They have quality in midfield with Jenas, Dyer, Bowyer and Robert. They have great quality. We wanted to score more goals but we couldn't.
"We gave a lot, and in the dressing room after the game we really felt we had battled hard."
The best positive to come from the game was Steven Taylor who completely played Pires out of the game at right back and also came inside to help keep Henry quiet. This lad is living up to his hype and deserves to be moved straight into centre-back when Carr returns this weekend.
The Arsenal fans were pathetic. I was near their travelling thousands and we completely outsang them all game. In the Leazes the 'toon toon black and white army' chant lasted about 15-20 minutes non-stop in the second half as a group of lads at the back refused to let the chant die and the Arenal fans just gave up with the exception of one or two very brief songs.
So a gutting defeat but a performance which shows we should not be anywhere near where we are in the table. NUFC.com seem pretty certain that the Woodgate money will go on Babayaro, Boumsong and Distin in January (Babayaro has officially signed for us already for about 1M), while Deportivo have claimed that we have made a 3M bid for striker Walter Pandiani although Sky Sports are saying that officials from Newcastle have flown to Madrid today to discuss a deal on Morientes. Carr and Shearer will be available this weekend against Birmingham, I think we should move Taylor in the middle now with Carr coming back at right back. Babayaro won't be eligible to play until January 4 but he is eligible for both the FA Cup and UEFA Cup.
very good review my friend
Steve Taylor was the nucking futs!! :-) brilliant player.
Sky Sports are saying that Juventus are in for Bernard. Looks like he's on his way
quote:
Bernard in Juve's sights Newcastle full back Olivier Bernard is being linked with a January transfer to Italian titans Juventus. Bernard has been a consistent figure for The Magpies, but he would appear to be on his way out of St James' Park as talks over a new deal have failed to bear fruit. The defender has suggested he would happily stay with Newcastle, provided they match his contract demands. The two sides have failed to reach a suitable agreement and it is being suggested that Newcastle have resigned themselves to losing the French full back in January. With Newcastle bringing in a left back for January in the form of Celestine Babayaro, it could be that manager Graeme Souness feels he can allow Bernard to move on from Tyneside. Bernard's displays have caught the eye of a clutch of teams, with his rampaging style down the left flank attracting some of Europe's big hitters. There are few bigger clubs in Europe than Juventus and it is being claimed that coach Fabio Capello has set his sights on luring Bernard to Turin. Juventus are leading the way in Serie A and are through to the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League. Capello is said to be happy with most areas of his squad, while it has been claimed there will be no new arrivals in January, but one area of concern is at left back. Gianluca Zambrotta has been turning out at left back and although the Italian international has performed with great credit, he is not a natural full back. It could well be that Capello has earmarked a left back for January and rumours are suggesting Bernard is his favoured option. French television reports have claimed Bernard is ready to make the move to the Old Lady when the transfer window opens in January and have even suggested a deal is close to being finalised.
Taylor vs Pires last night.

Av it!!
Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has revealed that Craig Bellamy can leave the club if the right offer is made.
But, despite speculation that Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester City want the forward, only Stoke are understood to have made an enquiry.
Stoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blues agree 6m Bellamy fee Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy is on the verge of securing his escape from Tyneside after the Magpies agreed a 6m fee with Premiership rivals Birmingham. City have been given permission to talk to the 25-year-old Welshman hours after United manager Graeme Souness confirmed he would never pick the player again as long as Souness was at St James' Park. Birmingham manager Steve Bruce said: "We have agreed a fee with Newcastle and we've got permission to speak to the player. "We will be having talks with him over the weekend and we hope we can convince him to come to Birmingham City. "He's a quality player, quality players don't become available very often and that's why we've made the offer that we have to Newcastle. "My board have backed me ever since I came here and they've done it again.'' Bellamy had faced a bleak future in Newcastle's reserves until Birmingham stepped in with their offer. Souness had confirmed on Friday that Bellamy, who branded the Scot a liar following a bust-up, will never play for him again. Souness said: "He can't play for me ever again. He can't go on television and accuse me of telling lies. "I'm not going to dwell on it, but I think in most walks of life that would be the case. "I've covered it in my programme notes tomorrow for the game and people can read my side of the story and maybe make their judgement on it.'' |
Bellamy gone to Celtic and Bernard gone to Southampton.
I bet Southampton didnt offer the 35k per week he was wanting.
Well,
its good to get rid of people that are causing issues and feel they should either be paid the earth even though they have been pretty crap this season (Bernard) or the type that has no respect of the manager or the club, Newcastle will be better off without them.
I guess the deal with Yakubu is off now? thats a relief as well, he would've been a flop imho.
So, whats the score gonna be tonight chaps?! 3-1 Newcastle methinks.
2-1 and a fairly boring match IMO.
Also the game came alive when Robert came on, if Souness can't see that he's a complete idiot and my betting is that Robert wont start tomorrow.
Also everytime Bramble makes a mistake he's punished for it, every other player makes mistakes and seem to get away with them, whenever Bramble makes a mistake though it always costs Newcastle, he gave away one goal and with his other mistake nearly give away another.
Reports were last week that newcastle might look at buying Andy Johnson from Crystal Palace for 7million. No way would i pay that for him.
Just read on Team Talk: Newcastle full-back Celestine Babayaro is battling against a knee injury ahead of the FA Cup fifth-round clash at home to Chelsea on Sunday.
The Nigerian international limped off during his side's 2-1 Uefa Cup win in Heerenveen on Thursday night, but is hopeful of being fit.
week tomorrow, we'll kick ass
