I suggest checking out the dj inc. warmup set for lee burridge that was posted earlier by nrjizer. It's phenomenal and the first I had heard of him too.

his '08 Betalounge set is definitely good stuff (seems to be sort of a trend with Betalounge). the Blue Miami mix is decent but not quite as uplifting/funky/melodic.

his Betalounge set from '03 is pretty good too. starts off with about 45 minutes of R&B and then moves into the housier stuff... lots of soulful vocals and just good deep funkiness.

yeah i can't imagine the funk is very prevalent in Albany. i spent quite a bit of time there back when i was still living in NY.
