Agreed

Canada needs to focus and just play. Forget about the crowd and play as if they were away from home. Sometimes too much pressure leads to failure with them.

(whispers go canada go)

1 United States 8 13 13 34
2 Germany 9 11 7 27
3 Canada 10 7 4 21
4 Norway 8 6 6 20

Own the MIDDLE podium

I guess it's not how you start, it's how you finish.

on another note, Crosby is in all the commercials, interviews and has done as much as Marc-Andre Fleury last few games

This year better be the year we finally win a gold at home, we must not come out of tarnished.

Let OUR games begin!

As the IOC does not consider its sorting of nations to be an official ranking system, various methods of ranking nations are used.

The gold first ranking system described above is used by most of the world media, as well as the IOC. However, in the United States it is more common to publish medal tables ordered by the total number of medals won, although the gold first ranking has been used on occasion, including in the official report of the 2002 Winter Olympics, the most recent Games held in the United States.

We don't have the most medals right now, but we have the most gold medals in our Olympic history, both Summer or Winter, and we're currently leading all nations with Gold medals. The IOC generally sees the country with the most gold medals as the winner

Technically we ARE pwning the podium

well technically we tied our gold medal total of the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics with 10 gold medals, but we still have the chance to win more before Sunday. This is the most gold medals we've won in a Winter Olympics though.

the women's curling team from that country made a nude calendar to sell & raise $$ for their team. Similar to Canada's women's Nordic ski/biathlon team. http://www.boldbeautifulbiathlon.com/

nah.

keep it for your shoddy healthcare, your massive defence budget for invading countries on dubious terms, your law enforcement to deal with all the violence down there .....and for the beers to drown your sorrow on Sunday

lol. yeah, i thought we were not going to put other countries down for their achievements. remember canadians have 1/10th of your population. and we can definitely just keep getting better. so proud of the canadians. so good in everything. we can start focusing on the other sports too. i am thinking of taking up biathalon.

Posted by FunkyCrew on Feb-27-2010 15:10:

Watching that first 10 mins was almost unbearable...I didn't know what to feel or think towards the Finns, but Murphy's Law was in full effect for 'em.

To quote Nabokov from the loss the other night, "It was like watching a bunch of gorillas who've just been released"

How does "this makes me sad" a put down?? LMAO....Canadians are SO sensitive...I make a comment about how I wish you guys made more medals (ie: it makes me sad), and you guys go straight into politics and defense-mode. TOUGHEN UP Kiddos!! Not EVERYONE wants Canada to fail! I am one of those people. Surely I prefer my own country first, and canada second, but with the exception of playful banter with friends, I am certainly not one of those people going on a hay day about how Canada failed these Olympics. If you want to get defensive with someone, go talk to THOSE people, because I am NOT that woman And Certainly, Spin, going onto politics/social problems in a sports thread will NOT be responded to, PM me other wise if you wish to discuss further. kthx

PS: we already discussed population, that was soo 7 days ago and the idea was easily put to rest

ur kinda right there. from what i got out of living in toronto, anytime the word America or American is heard, canadians kind of cringe at it for some damn reason. its like they have a natural inclination to not like us or anything to do with us. so i just accepted it and let it be.

there's a reason to that though. although it's been taken too far lately.

hehe I dont wanna go there with this statement I think Canadians like whomever they like on a personal basis, including Americans, as I have many friends from here that I love dearly (and vise versa).

However, the lines get blurred when there is a global competition, because there is no longer an individual face, and instead we are competing for a group/country/flag. When the lines get blurred, people get defensive and suddenly the claws come out on anything they can throw out there because they temporarily forget the individuals and go straight into "group defense mode" (ie: endless excuses and arguments over whom is better at sports/politics/economics/whatever!)

We all do it when there is competition, some more sensitive than others based on their "groups" relationship with one another. (look how crazy it gets at an international soccer game when politics, sports, and national pride are mixed!)

edit: in other words I dont get mad when people get defensive, because I am a rational human being and understand why they are reacting in such a way, I just think some people need to simmer down and/or take their emotions out on people whom are REALLY saying some nasty shit I am not one of them, so its a waste of energy to get defensive with me
