Ditto.. fingers crossed on this one. I hope someone brings in dave seaman this year too. Van sucks for bringing in talent. The only thing I miss about Ontario are the shows.

Fri Aug 29 - Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso @ Celebrities

I think it's cool to break out the news now that their Edmonton show is announced.
What a crazy week it's going to be.

Posted by myth on Jul-23-2008 19:41:

^ That leave only Monday as a no show night, c'mon Mark, do something about it.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm a bit of a n00b here and something is driving me nuts:

How come all of the big names don't come here on a Friday or Saturday!?

Tiesto, ATB, PvD, even Nick Warren is on Sunday!... there have been others. What's up with this? Some of us have to wake up at 6am for school/work the next day and can't exactly skip out of it ><

I'm guessing the reason is because they go to bigger places on weekends? Isn't Vancouver big enough? haha... n00b I am.

sweetness .. banked for that.

dj's and venues cost less on weekdays
venues are not big enough to have decent prices and weekend dates. if we had smth like the government... tiesto would probably be 40 bucks instead of 100... and on a weekend.

Ah yes, that makes sense, thank you for the clarification

Damn, really making me jealous of those Torontonians now. I really wish we had something like the Guvernment here.

Now I wait for AvB to come, even if it's a weekday

I was in Ibiza a week before his residency started, but I got to see Ferry at Cream Amnesia

You all MUST go there at least once before dying, such an amazing experiance seeing a mindblowing set and then coming out of the club as the sun is rising over the mediterranean.

Im going to go back in late August to see him at Privelage, 40 euros for the biggest club in the world vs 200 dollars for Celebs :S Is anyone else going?

That sums it up exactly when people complain about promoters being greedy in Vancouver when bringing in a big name. Let's do some math for Tiesto:

Plush (Vancouver): 1000 (capacity) X $100 (CAN)= $100,000
Celebrities (Van): 600 (capacity) X $100 (CAN)= $60,000

Amnesia Cream (Ibiza) 4000 (capacity) X $64.3840 (CAN)= $257,536
Privilege (Ibiza) 10,000 (capacity) X $64.3840 (CAN)= $643,840

Why are people keep saying it's $200? $200 is for a pair and it's been mentioned a few time before ...
I still think it's expensive, but it's not INSANELY expensive

Posted by Mark on Jul-28-2008 18:40:

its expensive. plush and celebrities, IMO, aren't good enough venues to warrant that kind of price tag even for tiesto.

man, i wish this show was at the commodore.

but $100 per person seems to be the price to pay to see him here in VANCOUVER. just that anywhere else, you can see him for half the price.

well...the Commodore is locked and loaded by the House of Blues...only they can bring an artist to that venue (or working in associate with HOB).

If you are looking for the real culprit...blame B.C's archaic liquor laws. A venue like the Guvernment is not viable or possible in Vancouver.

If you don't charge $100 for a venue the size of Plush or Celebrities...I don't see how it would be possible to bring Tiesto.

Then you would have a handful of people complain that we never get big names like Tiesto. It's a no-win situation.

Posted by Mark on Jul-28-2008 21:59:

i'm not looking to put blame on anyone about the prices. it is what it is and that is how things are in vancouver.

i'm just finding it more and more difficult every year trying to justify paying for it anymore. when tickets go beyond these prices, i think thats when i'll stop going to them. if i need to get my tiesto fix, i'll see him somewhere in europe!

i'll be at the plush show this year. hopefully they beef everything up for tiesto because the last time i was there, the sound and the lighting was brutal.

Posted by MX- on Jul-28-2008 22:24:

Trust me...I'm NOT happy about $100 tickets!

And, yes, everywhere else is cheaper!

I just wish the collective energy spent blaming things on promoter greed (not saying there aren't any greedy promoters out there) could be used on bringing about systemic change to the liquor laws. Vancouver's club scene is going to look like a joke for the Olympics.

...but then again with the rampant poverty, the plight of the homeless, the increasing disparity between the haves and the have-nots, the spectre of peak oil...who cares.

hmm...i've yet to see them, & i strongly desire to complete seeing all of the euphonic boys. (i saw ronski speed in may of '07 & stoneface and terminal in september of '07; both @ the m.l.c. w/ great sound. )

HOWEVERRR, i'm still feelin' immensely apprehensive on taking the chance of hearing such loveliness on yet another questionable sound system, as i don't wish to subject myself to such attrocities like that anymore =/, & i'm also noticing that my ears don't have the strength to put up w/ that anymore, either. =P

y'know, i've never even cared about the heat/kids/decorations/somtimes even price or any other stuff. i just expect that a MUSICAL PERFORMANCE should have decent SOUND; no?

hmmm...4/6 p.n.e. raves have been fine, & only...like...2/too many m.l.c. raves have been horrible. so...yea.

John OO fleming seems to love seattle, when will he come here?! His show at richards a few years back was by far the best show I've been to. I had so much fun.

Bad Boy Bill, DJ Dan, Donald Glaude @ Plush

I saw in him seattle before christmas and it was the best trance show I have been to. I asked him to come up to vancouver . I think he would get a better turnout in vancouver, the club in seattle was far from packed.

yes! bring j00f to van. he's 1000000 x better than any trance dj out there IMO

So Kevin's September gig is indeed something big.

Fri Sep 12 - John Digweed, Kevin Shiu @ Celebrities

John's last Celebrities show was phenomenal.
