In the news today,

Lou Piniella's contract has been bought out by the Tampa Bay Rays, which didnt come as a surprise to some people like me. Where do you guys think he will be coaching next year? Baltimore, perhaps?

I got sick of looking at him coaching little kids

I want to congratulate all the idiots who wrote the Yankees off at any point this season.

Thats why I was so surprised earlier in the season that White Sox were so ahead. Who knows, its not over yet. I think getting swept by Tampa Bay at home in August will definitely cost them (the Indians)/

wow...you got a good memory

i forget why I picked them lol

Even though I am not a Yankee fan, for reasons undisclosed, I never wrote them off. Even when they were at their worst this season. Their resugrence and now a division lead comes to no surprise to me, whatsoever. However, I do believe Red Sox have another magic trick up their sleeve, and their head-to-head matchups at the end of the season will be absolutely crucial in deciding the division winner.

Yeah and if they end tied the yanks won the cointoss for the 1 game playoff to take place in the bronx

Did anyone else see Kameron Loe (Texas) get nailed in the head by Vladimir Guerrero? Luckily it looked like the impact just grazed the bill of his cap and he was back on his feet. It didn't look like he had any bruises and he wasnt bleeding or anything but they still took him out of the game.

Reminded me of Matt Clement (Red Sox) getting beaned back in July.

So where are all the gloating, band wagon Red Sox fans now, bitches!!!

Yanks haven't won shit yet, but it's great to see this new Red Sox "dynasty" falling apart faster than David Wells can slam back a Big Mac.

Falling apart? They aren't the White Sox...

My awards: (Not who I think will win, but who I think should win)

AL MVP
David Ortiz/Alex Rodriguez
Ortiz' #'s are better than Rodriquez'. However, everyone makes a big deal about Ortiz not playing defense. Boo hoo. But, to please everyone, including myself, I think they should be co-MVP. Both are incredibly great players. And there was a co-MVP in 1979 when Keith Hernandez and Willie Stargell both won.

NL MVP
Andruw Jones
Well duh. Leads the majors in homers and is having a crazy good year offensively. With a normal AJ year, the Braves would be fighting with the rest of the NL East for a WC spot.

AL RotY
Houston Street
There isn't a truly clear cut winner here. But Street has been almost as good as Mariano this year. He should get it over Johnny Gomes and Robinson Cano.

NL RotY
Jeff Francouer
Yeah. He hasn't been up a whole year. Yeah. He didn't walk unintentionally in over 130 ABs. But the kid is a machine. 20 years old and putting up monstrous numbers. Not to mention the crazy good arm he has. In probably half the games, he is about 3 assists behind the league leader, Cliff Floyd.

NL Cy Young
Roger Clemens
He has a sub-2.00 ERA. Fuck wins. Case closed.

AL Cy Young
Johan Santana
Again, there is no clear cut winner here. And with the White Sox guys sucking and Halladay injured, Johan deserves it again. His numbers are absurd once again.

A sub-3.00 ERA.
9.22 K/9
5.44 K/BB
0.97 WHIP

Yikes. After a not-so-good first half (3.98 ERA), he has been insane (1.64 ERA). Of course, he won't get it because Fatso has 20 wins and Johan only has 14. But the dude deserves it more than anyone else.

i can't say much about rookie of the year, because i don't know the list of rookies out there .. hahhaha .. but my picks for mvp and cy young
(who should deserve it) ..

i can't name just one person, because these are going to be 4 tough races to choose from, so i pick my top 3

NL

MVP :
Andruw Jones
Albert Pujols
Derrek Lee (<== flame me here ... i just add him, because of his tremendeous run between may and july)

CY Young :
roger clemens
cris carpenter
chris cordero

*note* i did not add dontrelle willis, because cordero deserves it more .. how many times has he bailed out the failing nationals bats in the 9th inning ..

AL

MVP
david ortiz
alex rodriguez
grady sizemore ( <== flame me here, but when he plays well, the indians bats play well .. i like this guy .. speed and power at the start of the lineup)

CY young :
bartolo colon
johan santana
kevin milwood / cliff lee ( <== choose one here .. there is a reason why cleveland pitching is good .. kevin milwood leads the al in era, but surprisingly has a losing record .. cliff lee gets rocked every other start, but still wins .. 18 wins)

i agree one hundred percent with this pick

I'll have to disagree with you guys on the NL MVP thing. You might be surprised to hear that from a Braves fan, but all that Andruw Jones did this season is pull the ball and got struck out a lot as well. Plus he had that absolutely ridiculoud hitting drought early in the season, his career worst. He doesnt deserve the MVP, since he is only outstanding in the HR category. Wait till playoffs come, and you'll see what I mean. His current average is .268 for crying out loud!

Give it to Pujols.

How can a player be an MVP if he sits on the bench 90% of the game?

Guess you will have to ask Frank thomas....he was a dh when he won it

Designated Hitters should never win the MVP.

If Ortiz's glove was any good, he'd be in the field every day.

I have to agree that he doesnt deserve the MVP, and he wont win it. You need highly outstanding stats for a DH to win it. My opinion.

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Sep-23-2005 22:37:

And Frank Thomas was never the full time DH when he won it anyway.

Read the article on ESPN about Ortiz on the front page...first paragraph. It's pro-Ortiz of course, but what do you expect from the Yankee hating nitwits at ESPN anyway? I think Steinbrenner should sue them for negative publicity. All they ever do is whine about the "Evil Empire". It's fucking pathetic.

Everyone says that about their team. Mets fans think they're anti-Mets. Yankee fans think they're anti-Yankee. Etc.

Dude... with no steroids, not many players are going to jack 50 anymore. Where/how he hit the HRs does not matter. Also, the strike out is a very overrated stat. Would you rather have Andruw Jones strike out with a runner on 1st? Or... ground into an inning ending/rally killy double play? I'd take the former any day of the weak. Also, batting average does not matter either.

Also, that hitting drought should only make his stats now even more impressive. He has totally carried the Braves. Without him, they would be terrible.

This is the same scenario as Allen Iverson last year. The 76ers are not the best team in the NBA. Not even close. But, without AI, they would be worse than the Knicks. With him, they make the playoffs. The Braves, without Andruw, would be terrible. With him, they are the NL East champs yet again...

Posted by Shamez214 on Sep-23-2005 22:56:

As for Ortiz and Rodriguez, it's obviously between those two. My main argument is this:

Take Ortiz off of the Red Sox, and you have Manny with 129 RBI... and the next closest is Damon with 72.

Take Rodriguez off of the Yankees, and you have Sheffield with 110 and Matsui with 111 and then Giambi with 80.

Without Ortiz, the Red Sox would be the Blue Jays. Without Rodriguez, the Yankees would be the Red Sox.

Regardless of defense, Ortiz is way more important offensively to his team than Rodriguez is. Hence the reason I chose a co-MVP.

They're definitely pro Red Sox, that's for sure.

They're also anti-Canadian teams in hockey, but that's another story.

I love Ortiz, don't get me wrong but I'm a firm believer that a position player should win the MVP because he contributes in every aspect of the game. Look at what Arod did in the last game against Toronto on Sunday. Ortiz can't win games like that...Arod can, and does, do both.

Without Arod, the Yanks' wouldn't be where they are. But you could say that about a lot of guys...without Rivera, or even Aaron Small this season. But take away Ortiz from Boston, and they'd be several games out of first. So that is a very valid point.
