AUSTRALIA had made it onto soccer's world stage despite its 1-0 loss to Italy, Football Australia chief executive John O'Neill has said. Speaking from Germany, Mr O'Neill said the Socceroos were devastated by their loss. \"We are really gutted. Sport can be very cruel, but today it was excruciatingly cruel,\" he said on Channel 7. \"The dressing room was incredibly sad, lots of tears.\" |
So with Australia moving to Asia, how long before we see the SOloman Islands, Nauru or Fiji in the world cup?
Imagine one of themn playing Uruguay, it'd be a massacre of epic proportions
btw, I thought Schwarzer played quite admirably and put the questions from the first two games to bed. That save with his legs was pretty quick thinking. There was no way anyone would have been able to save that penalty
did anyone hear what the BBC had to say
" a 400 Million dollar team, had to take a dive to win the match"
i couldnt have put it any better myself

If you want to blame someone blame the ref not the player, its going to be debated for a long time but there isnt ever going to be a clear answer.
I do feel abit bad now though because it was a bad way to win after all that competition but come on... Australia made it pretty damn far and how many people realy thaught that Australia would defeat them? I would have been happy if Australia had won aswell because it was a tough game.
If im being a sh*thead just for supporting the team i have always supported then what can do?

they are queens in every sense of the word, reknowned for there dramatic sensationalised acting, caring more about there looks than the soccer game, using more hair product that a team of fonzarellis, and making sure they have matching hangbags for there boots
personally i blame both player and ref, i think blatant dives are just poor sportsmanship, and that call was crap
it wasnt 50/50
the aerial view that we were first shown of the incident makes it hard to judge and can give cause to speculate, the camera on ground level clearly shows italian running into neil, the intial challenge may have been a bit risky, but its a bit hard to go anywhere when ur on the ground like he was and the italian was far enuf away from him he couldve run around or jumped him (as neil is clearly ducking away) but he didnt he went straight through him.
can't change what happened but can take the piss out of ppl who think that call could be justified in anyway
heres my thoughts on what happened, although I dunno how this stands with the rules.
actually I don't think he was going for a tackle, he was trying to block a shot. The Italian guy did start to cock his leg for a shot just as Neill starting coming into frame, you can see his foot twitch like he was about to go for a kick, he stopped cos Neil was blocking it. Admittedly though the other leg did sweep around like it may have been a tackle, but I honestly believe the only intention of the slide was to block a shot.
you can see it here, the Italian guy starts to shuffle and bring his leg through for a kick just as Neil goes (a fair way) in front of him, he then cancelled the kick and ran into him
after he ran into him yeah he dived though. from side on you can see obviously he took his right leg out from underneath himself to fall.
I do belive the call was unfair but I don't belive that it was a dive, last night I wanted that penalty but I have changed my mind. I would personally have preffered to see it go on differently but its over and thats how it went down.
I am an Italian citizen and i have always grown up as an Italian thats why I go for Italy.
Like i said before though, Australia should be proud they played so well and are on their way to becoming one of the best.
here's my thoughts:
i'm going to kill the referee, who's with me?
nah, kill the player. that ref was decent.
Too bad it had to end this way. The Socceroos moved the ball around good but they lack pure attack power. You just have to look at the Italians , even with 10 men they still attacked the goals.(shots on goal)
Anyway the Socceroos proved they arent a push over side, I hope Australian Football grows and gets stronger
well done socceroos.
Blatently it was a dive, if not it wasnt even a tackle, as said above it was an attempted block. You can blame the ref a little because of what he saw was an Italian hit the deck, however I really think the person that holds the most responsibility here is the player and FIFA for not acting on their promise to penalise players for diving, I have not seen one free kick or yellow card for a dive this world cup. The player is a total loser and lacks sportsmanship, I have learned from this world cup that many countries have extremely poor sportsmanship. Respect, regard, perceptions of countries such as Croatia and Italy are heavily influenced by the way people see their sporting hero's or so called roll models act and behave and carry on like monkey's escaped from the zoo. I understand people live differently all over the world with different cultures, however untill now I had thought of Italy as having a wonderful culture. If that sort of sportsmanship is ingrained into their society then I pitty all the kids their who are learning from the examples of their reject hero's.
Australia controlled all the matches they played in the world cup, competed well at the highest levels. Showed true hearted sportsmanship. Never took a dive, tackled for the ball even if sometimes they botched it. Played good attacking soccer, yet they were penalised heavily in most games by the ref's for stupid things and had free's and penalties not paid to them that where clearly justified.
I enjoyed watching our Aussie boys do us proud in every way from skill, determination, strategy and most importantly they showed the rest of the world we are good people with a high regard for good sportsmanship. Any country that has not recognised the above are blind sighted and arrogant fucks. Any country that does not consider us a threat is stupid, shit we even threatened to take down brazil, should of had Italy, should of 4-1 against Croatia except the ref was so biased and thick.
Australia just showed the world its not just a top 16 team but it damn well should be a top 8 team. I think the Socceroos can take pride in that and they will hold a very solid belief that regardless of FIFA rankings we are a team that deserves to be in the top 10.
Finally, FUCKING SHIT WAY TO GO OUT OF A TOURNAMENT!!!!! FUCKING DIVING FUCK SHOULD BE BANNED FOR 6 MONTHS, ACTION NEEDS TO BE TAKEN AGAINST DIVING AND IT NEEDS TO BE A HARD LINED APPROACH. STUPID FIFA JUST SIT BACK AND SAY " PLEASE DONT DIVE WE WILL PUNISH YOU" THEN DO SWEET FUCK ALL ABOUT IT ALL TOURNAMENT. FUCK OFF!!!!!!!!!!!
lol ^ great post.. can someone tell me what the hell is up with that lame thumb sucking ritual? what does it mean exactly
