Originally posted by jerZ07002 Probably bull shit. It's just hype. From what i hear they need to prove he actually used steroids when he was on the yankees. Obviously i don't know the language of his contract, so its all speculation. But remember, this shit happened two years ago also. I wish he would get the boot. I don't like him, and it prevents the yankees from getting a solid first baseman.

Originally posted by jerZ07002 the story wasn't bull shit, it's a bull shit story. There's no way his contract is going to be voided. I heard about the USA today & ESPN stories, all i was saying is that it's just hype that anything will actually happen. I respect that you like giambi, but realistically, he's preventing the yankees from getting a good all around first baseman. We have to platoon two mediocre players at first because we don't want to invest anymore at first base. Im not sure if you watched the playoffs from two years ago, but i remember giambi couldn't throw the ball from first to home plate. He is awful on defense. (I should probably let you know im a huge fan of small ball: defense, stealing bases, bunts, etc...) It pains me to say this, but Jose Reyes (the model small ball player) is going to be the best player in the majors next year, if he isn't already. The only player i will say is better than Reyes right now is AROD.
Well, I know that he made a public apology yesterday for using the stuff, but I havent heard anything conclusive about his contract. But, he did play tonight, so if his contract is going out, its being decided still, and is not in effect as of now.

Originally posted by steven-neil I cant see how you come to that conclusion..Giambi is solid and isnt preventing us from getting anyone and I'd like to hear your argument. The Yankees went through a million first basemen last season whilst Jason was DH'ing and scoring runs...

Originally posted by jerZ07002 I'm more concerned with the all around player. Giambi is like david ortiz in that he isn't an athlete; however, giambi isn't nearly as clutch or consistent as ortiz. Sure giambi can hit some bombs, but he strikes out a ton, he can't run the bases for shit, and even worse, he plays the field like a ten year old. Giambi's average has also fallen off since his first year as a yankee. In his last two years he had good OBP, but it was nothing compared to his final years with Oakland. My point is that the yankees are spending 23 million a year on giambi. They aren't going to spend another 10 million on a solid first baseman. The one thing giambi does provide, is the opportunity to bring up a rookie, however, we don't have a solid minor league first baseman. The problem now is that there are no solid first baseman on the FA market this offseason. The only real opportunity is to convert carlos guillen to first base full time. He is a solid option.

Originally posted by jerZ07002 well, you don't need to know that much to have an opinion. This is just my opinion, but our biggest flaw in the field is our first baseman. I wouldn't mind seeing carlos guillen at first, if he would convert. We also need to resign Jorge. Im not sure about Abreu, he is a solid player, but i think his price is too high. I wonder if we could get Ichiro (i hear that we have little chance). But that would lead to a problem of whether he or Damon should hit first. Obviously Ichiro is the better player. There are so many good outfielders on the market next season, i would be surprised if abreu stayed. We obviously need solid pitchers in the bullpen. Mariano is going to be 38 or something like that, so we need to think about getting someone to fill his spot. We also need a few more solid pitchers in there. I don't think our rotation is going to be a problem in the next few years: Wang, Mussina (for another year), pettitte (for one more year), Hughes, and De Salvo and Clippard both look pretty good.

Originally posted by jerZ07002 so did i. I think he's playing in the minors for the yankees. Maybe if they actually let him play all the time he could have turned into a solid player. Unfortunately he is 30 and his time may have passed. Im not too sure. The yankees had a good first baseman in nick johnson prior to giambi. Johnson's problem was he was always on the DL. Honestly, im not sure what the yankees should do with 1b at this point. There really isn't much. Maybe they should develop something quickly.

I'll be convinced that things are turning if we take this series, and then the LA series. If we don't win either series, i think im giving up hope. |

Originally posted by jerZ07002 Ummmmm....where did you get that info from??? I'd like to hear more. It's very intriguing. Figgins is a great utility man. Lots of SB's, good fielding, and he killed the yankees a few years back.
