There's no doubt in my mind that he was at the very least armed, and most likely firing on the SEALs as they entered. You don't just not hear 3 Blackhawk helicopters hovering over your house. No way he was going to surrender or get taken alive.

Why are we not somber? Where is the deeper, more meaningful reflection? Haven't we learned any lessons in ten years? Paid any attention along the way? Gained any valuable wisdom? Are we really better off? Can it ever be a true victory when so many don't even seem to comprehend the magnitude of what has been lost along the way? Or even what the future might hold? Was it all worth it? As my phone rings and the media looks toward me to give them their trite, warm soundbite of closure and elation, I have to be honest, today is not a day of celebration for me.

To be fair I�d be surprised if 1 in 10 people in this thread knew who he was before 911 (this is just an excuse to state that I identified OBL as the architect of 911 within 30 seconds of live feed from new york arriving on my tv. Its good being right all the time).

Well if it weren't for conservatives bitching about kids being taught recent history (read post WWII as recent) all the time because its "too controversial" maybe those kids would have learned about it in Elementary school instead of constantly being taught about the period from the revolution to the civil war.

Shit even reconstruction to the end of the first world war is hardly covered in school.

Yep, if people learned recent US history as children we'd have no conservatives.

It depends on the person obviously, but for most people school is fundamental in shaping a persons beliefs because it gives them the basis on which to establish their own views.

Best/most hopeful thing ive seen on the news so far was a New York woman who said - "Im never happy when another person dies - im not going to lie i dont feel bad about it - but im not celebrating his death either - and he was my brothers killer"

But yeah, from my vantage point some of the celebrations look exaclty fundamentalists in the middle east - and i guess they are they are the same except they be fundamentalists in the west.
