I remember my dads old technics amp used to shock me like that. I think it still does, its a realy wierd feeling because it almost feels like getting a realy quick cut.

Starboy, is it just me or are those moniters too high?

Posted by DJRecess on Nov-23-2006 13:08:

Is that one of those changing picture frames? Or is it a plasma TV? Or am I just seeing a cable hanging down from it and thinking too much.

I'd love to see a shot of the other side of the room though. Either you're fanatically clean and tidy (in which case, my wife would love to meet you and work out how to teach me to be like that) or the other half of the room is crammed with junk.

Really good looking setup though, must be a pleasure to stand in front of it.

I've literally been saving for years to get the set up i want. I've ditched the old shit i had previously. I've been buying it piece by piece and it feels like i've tested out every single possibility for a mixer, amplifier, monitors before i decided on the one i wanted, i toyed with the idea of tt's and cdj's, just tt's, just cdj's, i've bought a synth, laptop, ableton, my monitors, all the hi-fi gear. I love making a big thorough list of equipment that i would want to buy with the best prices, but then i'll go back two days later and change it all again!

But soon, all will be revealed.

Thanks guys for the compliments. I built the stands myself and painted them, they came out pretty solid. I made them so the monitors would be ear level (im 6"2) so they're pretty high. Its an empty room that's why its so clean . The mirror hanging up lights up and the ocean seems realistic with the water ripples and all, its very nice to look at when your mixing, it used to be in my home office but i never gave it much attention in there

They're RP-somethings, I've got the 8s and its the long flat bass port that makes them distinctive, besides the yellow woofer....

After listening to the rp5s in a couple stores, I wouldn't waste money on them or most 5 inch monitors (samson m-audio...) I hate the bass on the 5s, so boomy.. the 6s and 8s are better but for the most part, the rokits just dont deliver for production usage, and i like buying things what suit more than one purpose....

I suggest checking out Event. I liked the sound of their stuff much more. Treble isn't quite as defined, but that for me is a plus as it's a less fatiguing listen.

Event ALP5 ftw!

Speaking about monitors, I've made a side-by-side comparison of the so talked-about KRK RP8's and the Alesis M1 Active MK2 and the latter kick KRK's ass tenfold!!! Clearer sound, brighter panorama, more balanced sound...delicious

Plus their cheaper.

Totally recommended!!

Maybe they sound better to you because they don't have a flat response. If they 'lie' as a speaker that might be what you want, they might colour the sound to your tastes. They're also pretty flakey when you pump up the volume. A friend of mine has these and they totally fail when compared to my RP8s.

They're half the price of the RP8s for a reason.

As for studio monitors the more you pay the better the monitors will be. This is true 99% of the time.

They have a FLAT response. The way I know it is just the way you claim RP8 have a flat response. M1 Active's are 100 Watt while RP8's have 120 Watt...maybe M1's wheren't loud enough for you. I checked a demo track at a musical store with tons of other expensive studio stuff. Alesis bring MORE DETAILED sound, even in they are colouring sound a bit, all monitors COLOUR em! Besides everybody knows RP8's are just not good for production. imo
