dont do a contiki....
would u want to be 'stuck' in a bus with ppl that will quiet possibly drive u nuts for a few week?....NO!..

i used Busabout to treck from Italy (Venice,Rome,Florence,Pisa,Siena) then to the southern france area , the riviera (Nice, Cannes, Monaco..) and from there went to Spain....Barcelona and went on a 9 day long 'rampage' in Ibiza.....

u have more freedom with Busabout. u hop on and off whenever u want so if you really like a place u can spend a few nights there (they sort out our accom on the bus!) its great..

re: I B I Z A

it has to be done..
u will expect to pay 35-60euro's on entry to clubs (average is 40euros) per event....i went to Amnesia 3 times!:

-Cream @ Amnesia (pvd)
-Judgement Sundays @ Eden(ferr and co)
-Renaissance @ Amnesia
-Danny Tenaglia @ Amnesia
-Home @ Space
-Dave Seaman and an absent DAnny howells @ El Devino

so you can see, about 250euros was spent alone on entry (i didnt pay for Ferr)

drinks are ridiculous....5-10euro for water/softdrink....and booze is about 10-15EURO dep where u go,....

bring 2005 on!!!....xx

Thanks for that, will definitely keep it in mind.

I was just looking for something for a couple of weeks where I can explore the parts of Europe I don't actually want to spend much time in.

That sounds good though to be able to jump on and off.........

Posted by narcism on Dec-14-2004 12:24:

i have 2 friends who just came back from europe a few weeks back.
One went on a contiki tour, if u like to get pissed everynight and feel that u dont want to travel urself its a good option. Apparently of the 30 or so ppl on it over half were australian.

The other friend flew solo and said at times it can get really lonely but you do make friends in the hostels ect. I've been warned about the bed bugs and nits which she seemed to get throughtout various places she went too

So really you have to weigh up your options
with the tour you get told what to do and where to go, but they make sure you have a great time.

Posted by eRRaTiK on Dec-21-2004 12:45:

Well it's only been FIVE MONTHS since myself, beemer, pvdsangel, djway and a stack of others (aussies and global TA's) partied together, man does it seem like just last week!

Anyways, I FINALLY got around to uploading my pics so enjoy...

check this thread for the link.

(and yes fellas, European women rock!)

if you're going alone contiki is definitely a good way to meet a group of people and hang out with them for a set amount of time (then if you don't like them don't hang out with them after the tour lol).

depends on how much freedom you want/need to stay in specific places.

contiki is well structured (some would say too much so) and you don't stay at one place too long. however you know what you're getting up front and you know the costs upfront also.

i thoroughly enjoyed my contiki experience. i was hesitant at first because 37 days with the same 40 or so people was daunting, but it worked out really well and i had an awesome group. there are shorter tours available of course.

busabout gives you more freedom but is less structured. it's basically a travel pass that allows you to get on and off the bus at any station at any time within a specified timeframe. beemer would be able to tell you more about busabout as she and eddie took that option.

Where did you do your contiki?

Structure sounds good for me though cos in Italy and France (where I plan to do a tour)they'll do all the big things and probably some things I wouldn't think of if I was going solo..........
Anyway I've still got a while to think about it

Where we had the opportunity, we updated out trip blog so check it out.

Yeh, that's one of the really good things. Like when we went to the wine region in Beaujolais France. We all commented that unless we knew a local, there was probably no chance that we would have ventured out into that area ourselves because it's not the common tourist-type spot.

Then there was the usual guided tourist tours through Rome & Athens. There are other days where you go to a city and you simpy do your own thing.

Note that you are not obliged to follow the group at all times, if you don't want to follow the group you're more than welcome to go off on your own. Just don't miss the bus before it moves to the next country! lol.

in Europe they're 10x cleaner and cheaper. I'm sure you won't want to miss out on that Leigh hahha

going for two years? bastard!!

and make sure you make your way over to eastern europe at least once during your time over there. I only visited Prague but next time I go back I'm going to do other countries in the Eastern block. They're cheap (though quickly becoming commercial so try get in there before the prices spike up) and hella fun!

(and the women are to die for, if you like Europeans that is)

Posted by PulseFusion on Dec-23-2004 14:09:

hell yes the women are superb... got myself a nice czech one here

it's confirmed, i'm going over to europe in the july holis! yay!

Haha, i got into Nuremburg on the 23rd and i saw posters up for the event! I was very tempted, but Sven Vath is more techno than trance isn't he? I got drunk on Gluhwein instead... i love that stuff.

Anyway hope everyones had a good Christmas. Back in Aus in less than 2 weeks!

Finally back in Oz now. I had a fantastic holiday but its good to be back! I will post pics shortly, some of them are fantastic! really beautiful scenery!

Only problem they are 2.5 megs a photo. anyone know how i can make them smaller?

Posted by eRRaTiK on Jan-07-2005 09:05:

reduce the resolution on the images.

use photo editing software to do it.

try photo resizer. it's free.

alternatively you can find others on google.

ps. welcome back dorothy

Posted by tachyon on Jan-07-2005 09:14:

alternatively you can use this small utility from M$:

XP PowerToys Image Resizer

this PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a right-click. real handy when you cbf after a big night out! hell, i discovered this thing after a night out!!.

Posted by rez on Jan-07-2005 11:36:

Love Poundin' Sensation

beautiful tach!
jsut what i needed

i've always used the photoshop memory thingy where it records every command done within that time frame, then manually click the DO button on every pic
but hey, when your scattered you tend to not mind spending hours resizing as your mind is somewhere far far away

Posted by stamper on Jan-07-2005 11:59:

Thanks for the help guys.

Any way or place where i can get free image hosting?

Thanks heaps!

I got an album now:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v206/mr-stamper/

If anyone wants any original size photos (2816 x 2112) for wallpapers or whatever give a yell. I put in more nice scenery than buildings, historical stuff etc. I'll add to the album as much as possilbe.
