Why does a DJ need to worry about acoustics?
Its very different to production in terms of mixing tracks. You don't need your speakers to have a flat response, just as long as they aren't completely messed up.
I would take a cdj1000 over a flashy comfy table any day...
Maybe clarify what the point is your trying to make?

I have a clue- I have a degree in such gubbins!
I just choose not to give a crap about the majority of it

Anyone anal about this stuff would have a field day looking closely at my studio and probably picking fault with it,...but ultimately they can go ram it.
That sort of bollocks is precisely why I got disillusioned with the whole industry a long time ago.
My walls arent parallel, and the ceiling is slanted- that is good enough for me in terms of acoustics.
Will post some current pics later so you can have a heart attack
As a very wise man, producer, engineer, and dear friend said to me years ago:
" learn the rules, then break them"

Why bother spending money on decent kit then?

Would you buy a Maclaren F1 only to ever go 100m down the road to your paper shop, when the speed limit in your area is 5m per hour?

My point is that I'm seeing so many people spend ridiculous amounts of money and obsess on this forum (and others) about the best/latest/highest quality kit only to set it up in a way that will only detract from it's proper use.

If you can afford to buy it and you want to use it for making music, why not install it so you get the best possible results out of it.

Not that I'm picking on anyone in particular as many photos are just criminal, but take as an example the guy with two Mackie SRM450's in his living room. Unless he lives in a detached house in the middle of a field, he will never be able to get those speakers up to the volume they were intended to be used at and they will just sound noisy. They are PA speakers, and are really not a good choice for a home DJ set up.

I can find more examples if you want but just look at the pics - there are literally hundreds of schoolboy mistakes.

Decent speaker stands are a cheap way of improving sound quality. Also try and invest in high quality interconnects and speaker cable. Little things like this can vastly improve listening pleasure. Buying a new sound card for my Laptop was a great investment that cost me less than 50 quid.

ZeJayMan - That is exactly what I'm talking about!

There are so many little things that can be done to improve a set up.

Posted by ill0gical0ne on Jan-29-2007 18:53:

He may be "referring" to my speakers... which I admit, they're huge, and totally not meant for typical listening; which they aren't used for. My friend and myself throw decent sized house parties, and DJ for frats at their parties, which require very large, loud, speakers.

This thread is aimed at bedroom DJ's, not producers.

I think he is referring to DannyO re: the Mackie SRM450's.

I take it this is aimed at me since I'm the one with those speakers (not the only one I'm sure), but who are you to judge what I buy and how I use it?, for your imformation I DO live in a detached house, and I DO have them cranked close to full pretty much everytime I have them on, the reason I got these as my last set of speakers which were 12" floorstanders, still didn't go loud enough and still give detail in the music, so for me I had no choice, I haven't had these long but they have been used in a way afew times that the money was worth it, and this summer there gonna pay for themselves over and over.

As for the cost of things, I see that there IS A LOT of expensive gear in this thread that is only used for bedroom stuff, but soo what, its there money, they can spend it how they please, also it depends on the value of money to that individual, who gives a shit about spending 2 grand on speakers when you make that money in 2 weeks, same as someone buying a 100 grand car when they earn a million a year, when they could of got a great brand new car for 25.

And as for little things people can do too improve sounds and setup, yes there are, I know for me the speakers are too close and sometimes not pointing the right direction, but I sure as hell am not going to empty the room and cover the walls in egg boxes and shit.

Anyway end of rant, just getting sick of people moaning about what other people decide to do with there money, gear etc etc.

Posted by miamitranceman on Jan-30-2007 05:16:

I've added a few pieces to my setup since I last posted in the summer.
Edit: Too lazy to resize, but you get the picture.

2x CDJ 800 mk2s
DJM 400
Sony MDR V700 cans
Dell Inspiron 8200 P4 2.2 ghz/2 gigs of RAM/running Torq w/Conectiv
Logitech z2300 speakers (These things boom)
Samsung 3251D LCD

Now to do something about those wires...

Wow man! If you're gonna post 'em that big, could you at least get 'em in focus?

Do you still play your Gamecube? Mine's been in the loft for about 2 years now...

Next investment: upgrading my 2.1 mp s200 Canon... ugh.

Haven't touched the Gamecube in months, but I still use my ps2 with FFXII.

Turn your flash on and report back.

Looks awesome.

Hahah yeah... I was about to say something as well. Nice try though. If you're wiling to spend the money, a Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) is well worth the money. I got mine w/ a 2GiB memory card for $615.

You sad, pathetic, man... I've always had a problem buying something somewhere based on information given to me by someone that doesn't even own what I'm buying.
