Why does a DJ need to worry about acoustics?
Its very different to production in terms of mixing tracks. You don't need your speakers to have a flat response, just as long as they aren't completely messed up.
I would take a cdj1000 over a flashy comfy table any day...
Maybe clarify what the point is your trying to make?

Why bother spending money on decent kit then?
Would you buy a Maclaren F1 only to ever go 100m down the road to your paper shop, when the speed limit in your area is 5m per hour?
My point is that I'm seeing so many people spend ridiculous amounts of money and obsess on this forum (and others) about the best/latest/highest quality kit only to set it up in a way that will only detract from it's proper use.
If you can afford to buy it and you want to use it for making music, why not install it so you get the best possible results out of it.
Not that I'm picking on anyone in particular as many photos are just criminal, but take as an example the guy with two Mackie SRM450's in his living room. Unless he lives in a detached house in the middle of a field, he will never be able to get those speakers up to the volume they were intended to be used at and they will just sound noisy. They are PA speakers, and are really not a good choice for a home DJ set up.
I can find more examples if you want but just look at the pics - there are literally hundreds of schoolboy mistakes.

There are so many little things that can be done to improve a set up.
He may be "referring" to my speakers... which I admit, they're huge, and totally not meant for typical listening; which they aren't used for. My friend and myself throw decent sized house parties, and DJ for frats at their parties, which require very large, loud, speakers.

my ghetto apartment setup, featuring waist-high monitors, no room for the EFX1000, and absolutely no place to put my powerbook.

I've added a few pieces to my setup since I last posted in the summer.
Edit: Too lazy to resize, but you get the picture.
2x CDJ 800 mk2s
DJM 400
Sony MDR V700 cans
Dell Inspiron 8200 P4 2.2 ghz/2 gigs of RAM/running Torq w/Conectiv
Logitech z2300 speakers (These things boom)
Samsung 3251D LCD
Now to do something about those wires...
Wow man! If you're gonna post 'em that big, could you at least get 'em in focus?
Do you still play your Gamecube? Mine's been in the loft for about 2 years now...
