I'm becoming a machine. Lost another inch off my waist just this week. Tomorrows my day off but I still wanna workout lol! I really need a break though as I'm really flippin sore and been pretty much injecting Glutamine +BCAAs into my veins! lol, not literally though.

I've got a great cardio routine, but am totally clueless in the weights/crazy machines area.
I've got an assessment and meeting with a personal trainer in 2 weeks.

Any tips til then?

for girls, i won't stress this enough. to tone, you need to build/strengthen muscle. a lot of girls think toning = more reps less weight. that becomes aerobic exercise, which can be counter productive if you're already doing some cardio

also, be careful with how much cardio you're doing. doing tons of cardio will throw your bodies hormones off and you'll start storing fat instead of losing it. i would keep it to 3-4 times a week if you absolutely must have it.

assuming your goal is to lose some weight and tone your body, i would just take in a little under your maintenance in calories, lift heavy and push yourself, and do cardio in moderation.

LOL you're not going to become a bodybuilder lifting weights for 3 months...

Lift light with more reps to tone.

Most girls will not be muscle heads unless they (a) train weights for years and years at a higher intensity than most people can take or (b) take steroids.

just make sure you adjust the seats/whatever else properly so you're using them the way they're intended

honestly, machines aren't bad. i just wouldn't create a whole workout using them. though i do know one person who uses mostly machines, and his physique is impressive especially for his age.

and lol, to get on the muscle head level for girls takes a LOT of work in terms of diet, lifting, and supplements.

It's funny when people think if they start lifting weights they'll automatically become a bodybuilder, cause it's so easy to gain lean muscle.

I gain 5lbs of lean muscle every protein shake I drink.

Well you can use anywhere from 5-10 lbs for arms. Bicep curls, lateral + front shoulder raises, overhead dumbbell press (for triceps), shoulder presses, skull crushers....all really simple and effective exercises. 7.5lbs (per hand) is the perfect amount of weight I find.

For legs I personally prefer to use as much weight as I can handle. But do squats, deadlifts, and lunges.

Abs, do planks. Planks give you more of that nice flat stomach - not the ripped muscular one that you get from sit-ups. Also "abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym" so cut out the beer and nachos.

Pushups are a great all around exercise. You hit your chest and to a lesser extent your triceps + shoulders.

Bent over rows or seated/incline rows are good for back (it's all I do + deadlifts for lower).

You can Youtube all of those things to see what proper form looks like.


More reps + less weight = more cardio workout = more fat burning. You'll know you aren't using enough weight if it doesn't burn through your last 6-7 reps. Do 3 sets of 12-15 per exercise.

I told you, squats and lunges. Your trainer will tell you the same thing. Deadlifts work your hamstrings, and tight strong hamstrings give your ass lift.


Grab a 30 lb dumbbell (or less if 30's too much ) and do goblet squats. Hold 10-15 lb dumbbells in each hand and do walking lunges.

Squats. Also lunges, especially long ones (putting your leg far forward).

all will tell you, squats squats and more squats. w/ proper form of course. my girlfriend makes fun of me all the time because since she's met me my ass got bigger from actually training legs.

form is everything though, have your trainer fix your form for squats/deadlifts before anything.
