Well, that was England's 3rd goal. Had it been disallowed, they might not have scored the 4th - it would've been a totally different game.

Well, obviously the BBC would be interested in proving the goal correct - they are a UK based company. In anycase, I'm willing to believe you if you can send me a link confirming what you are saying.

BTW, I did see the footage. Didn't look like a goal to me.

I saw it on TV last year...I'm sure if you look on google, you'll find something. Besides, you keep saying how Portugal deserved to win the England/Holland games...well, England deserved to beat Germany in 66. The Germans didn't even muster a shot against England in extra time...their only hope was penalties. England was all over them...they could have had 5 ET goals.

I haven't seen the full game, only that controversy. So you might be right, i'm not going to argue.

In anycase, England got the benefit of the doubt that game as they were the host nation. Host nations have always gotten benefits of the doubt. Whether it should be like this is debatable, but at least it's always been like that. That's one of the advantages of being a home team.

I saw the re-broadcast of Czech/Greece last night. Seemed like Greece was playing monkey in the middle. The Czechs dominated the game but unfortunately couldn't make the finish. Well.. Greece will get their asses kicked by Portugal on Sunday. my prediction 3-0

you can buy the DVD off amazon.co.uk, which features about 60 minutes worth of the game. It was also on ESPN classics two years ago and I taped the whole match.

Overall I think their success is really great for world soccer. It shows that anybody can win !

Well...you have to hand it to Greece. They played Otto's system down to the bone and it came through for them. Although, their games were none too exciting...it's just like defensive play in hockey. It can work, but is awfully boring to watch.

Overall, an unpredictable tournament with flares of drama, but only memorable based on the fact that a complete underdog took the crown.

the last 3 games Greece won were by headers. Nobody kicked the ball in. They won through one goaled headers.. andthen hogged the ball.

Save some cheers for Canadians

I believe that the Euro 2004 tournament has been spectacular, but it has further perplexed me as to the state of soccer in Canada.

During this tournament we watch all our European favourites and fully support them, win or lose. Fly our flags when our favourite wins, or take part in hour-long discussions trying to figure out why they lost.

We cheer for the goals from players like Charisteas, or Rooney. We however, forget the fact that Canadians play soccer too. Angelos Charisteas' Werder Bremen teammate Paul Stalteri was playing for Canada here in Kingston in World Cup qualifiers in mid-June. Wayne Rooney's Everton teammate Tomasz Radzinski was also here, but did anybody notice?

The very players playing in the Euro are teammates of some Canadian internationals, yet the Europeans are worshiped and would be noticed immediately upon arriving in Toronto. Canadian international players come home and nobody knows who they are, even though they play with or against players that are idolized from Europe. It is frustrating, but mostly it is sad. It is sad because the people that are famous in Canada like David Beckham or Luis Figo will probably never come to Canada, will only visit if on holiday or if paid to do so, yet the players who sweat for Canada and who sacrifice for the country of their birth are the ones we choose to know nothing of.

Canadian kids don't have to look over the Atlantic for their role models; they are much closer to home. I'm not saying that you can't support both Portugal and Canada, but if you are going to have to choose one, then it has to be across the board.

Don't only support Canada when it's hockey because you can't have the best of both worlds. Support the Portuguese hockey team as well if you feel so devoted to your country. I use Portugal as an example, because I myself am a Portuguese-Canadian, but my point applies to all European football/hockey fans in Canada.

I know that Canadian soccer isn't up to par with European football, but without support it never will be. If you love soccer so much and you want to see it closer to home, because Canada is home, don't exhaust all of your support during this Euro. The Canadian national team has six World Cup qualifiers to play beginning in August and they would love for all the devoted Canadian Euro followers to save some of their support for them as well.

Canada is in a group of 4, including Honduras, Guatemala and Costa-Rica. There's 3 groups in all.

The best 2 teams in this group, advances (presumably canada and Costa Rica).

Next stage is, 6 teams, 1 group, best 3 go to the world cup. 4th plays a game against the 5th in Asia, winner goes to World Cup.
